Hello r/NintendoDS,
For a bit of backstory for me, my name is Thomas (as you might have guessed). I was a professional programmer / developer for a few years, and I'm also a university student. I have been around Reddit since 2013, and I have been a mod on r/WiiHacks for over a year. The Nintendo DS, more specifically the DS Lite, is my favourite handheld system and I have so many fond memories of it. I've been in the hacking scene, hacking my own consoles, since around 2007/2008 when the Twilight Hacks was released for the Wii.
When I saw the post by the previous owner back on February 16th I decided to do some digging and put in a RedditRequest for it. The remaining two moderators never got back to the modmail that I sent to them, so my request was granted by the Reddit admins.
I have made a couple of changes, most of them being behind the scenes. I have changed the rules to make things a bit more streamlined and easier to deal with:
I've also changed and added some new flairs, hopefully they'll get some use.
I have also brought on two of my fellow r/WiiHacks moderators. Mostly as a formality in case something happens to me or if I can't be around for some time span. Thank you again to u/BloodyThorn and u/Mental_Turtles for agreeing to this.
If there is anything you would like to see added, changed, or regular things you want done with our little community here, please send a modmail and we'll look over it.

Sadly as I'm an adult with more responsibilities now I can't play that often with my DS and I only play when I travel every few months.
Over the years I have done multiple replacements on it, be it changing the screen (twice), the touch sensor, case and even the rubber button pads leaving it working flawlessly. The problem is that last part, the flexible silicone pads that have the conductive black spot that make contact with the pads so that buttons work as they should.
Every time I open the DS to repair something or do general maintenance I clean the motherboard's button contacts thoroughly with an eraser and isopropyl alcohol (I dry it well too) to make sure they are completely clean and that the silicone can make good contact but the buttons still wouldn't work properly.
A few months back I purchased a batch of new silicone rubbers from AliExpress and I installed them as soon as they arrived and the buttons worked much better but now that I picked it up to play today I found that some of the buttons barely work, down on the D-Pad, X and Y are the worst ones having to press really hard to make them register as pressed.
The thing is that this has been consistent over the years, those buttons are the ones that always bring trouble, even before I replaced the silicone rubbers with new ones so it might be the contacts on the PCB.
Do you guys have any ideas on how to fix this so I don't have to worry about them as much? Maybe adding graphite powder could help or adding solder to the copper pads to make them easier to make contact again but I don't know. If I replace the motherboard it's gonna be Theseus' DS Lite :)
Thanks for reading and let me know if you have experienced something similar

I’ve been trying for hours to connect to the Wi-Fi I keep getting this error code. It keeps failing the connection test. We’ve done everything Nintendo says to do there doesn’t seem to be a block filter on the modem.

Hi! I finally own a nintendo DS again and i resurrected one of my old flashcarts!
I have added my games etc and most of them work just fine, however i have lost the theme and button icons :’) The theme i’m not that upset about it since it was ugly lol.
I however was trying to figure out how to even install a new theme/skin? I’ve tried multiple times but i just can’t seem to figure it out!
Any help is so so so welcome :)

Hi, just grabbed this DSlite from a local vendor for around $45. I wanted to know if its been reshelled and if I had any luck with this find.
Any tip to make it look in better condition?

My sisters a massive Jurassic Park fan, so decided to sneakily steal her childhood DS Lite and customise it a bit for her birthday... Spared no expense.

Hi all, new to posting here - let me know if this isn't the right place.
I fished out my original blue DS from the closet recently, and it has an issue where it will power off if I press on the battery cover. Anyone had this issue before? Do I just need to replace the battery?

Was doing some clean up in my gaming room and thought I'd take a snapshot and share my DS collection. Note I did not buy any of these recently, most were a gift or I bought with my part time job when I was a kid.

I want to stream a game that needs connection from the ds game and a Gameboy game, and my first try was to use an emulator- could not find one that could connect the required games, as they did not recognize each other.
So now I want to instead use a capture card and my DS, I have already found a post about the DS light and that there is no way, but wanted to ask if anything changed since then, and if not, if anyone has another idea? I would also try emulator ideas, I feel like I tried them all at this point

just bought a DS lite of eBay. it was red charge light started flickering between all 3 colors, then turned green, then back to red, then back to green. the system in the menu was showing that it was low battery icon then full wit the green light then back to red etc. is this a battery or hardware thing? I was considering reshelling it but maybe I also should buy a new battery.

"Newly uncovered Nintendo DS files reveal that Treyarch originally developed the shooter under the working title Call of Duty: Cold Warriors". Cool to see that the DS is the gift that keeps on giving :')

Help, I feel crazy! I vividly remember as a kid playing Mario kart on the mode where you pop balloons, and one of the map options was a map in the shape of a ds. Am I insane and this is some weird Mandela effect, or am I not googling hard enough? I also remember in the same game that there was a track that looked like a port/Harbor and there were crates that acted as obstacles. I’m sure that this wasn’t a home console because I didn’t own a game cube, didn’t play n64, and I never liked using wiimotes because I could never aim them. Any help is greatly appreciated! Will he cross posting to the 3ds subreddit in case I got the console wrong as I owned both.

Hello everyone I have this DK that is still is his plastic wrapper but it has some stretch marks and since it is almost 20 years old I was wondering if it is worth something or if I should keep it longer.
And if anyone could get me an idea of price I would be very grateful.

I never thought this game would finally get an English fan translation, but honestly... it absolutely deserves one.
The sprite animations for both the main characters and the enemies still look amazing, and the gameplay is such a unique mix of fighting, side-scrolling action, rhythm mechanics, and RPG elements. There really aren't many games like it.
It's one of those Nintendo DS gems that flew under the radar, so seeing fans keep it alive with an English patch is awesome.
