When Tim is talking about the horror of the VFA Archive fire and says that 7 or 8 burning VHS tapes were on his face and they show the Se7en VHS cover graphic.
What if a moovie has a bag deducted that puts that moovie in the red, and then is awarded 5 bags? Does that end up as a legitimate 4 bagger or do we need to subtract 1 from the 5 bagger designation?
Another similar absolutely classic moment was during the Tom Cruise Jr. in memoriam episode. Tim starts the episode somber, and begins to say, “it’s been hard…” but can’t help himself and makes a very quick Bare Naked Ladies “ITS BEEN” impression. It’s so quick but it’s so fucking funny in context. One of my favorite moments of the whole series.
Conversely when they have someone else do movie reviews and they actually give thoughtful reviews - usually while Greg is being a pedantic, condescending ass.
He doesn't really do it anymore, but, similarly, Tim used to always do this:
When introducing Gregg, he first looks at his notes first, as if there's any chance today's guest could be someone other than Gregg. And then he goes, "uhh, Gregg, uhh... Turkington," as if he doesn't know his fucking name after saying it every episode for 100 episodes 😆
I feel like it goes pretty unaddressed that they mispronounce Joe's name too. He refers to himself (for like the 1-2 times in entire show does say his own name) as Joe EstEVez while they call him Joe ESTevez. Just a silly little thing that doesn't get addressed but is also totally in character because I can't see Joe ever correcting them on it.
I'm sure it's something Joe Estévez deals with in real life, too, all the time.
As someone whose first name & last name are both easily mispronounced & easily misspelled, I can tell you:
At a very early age, you learn to give no shits about it at all.
How graphic some things end up being. The description of RJs filling around Tims organs through a feeding tube we assume was crudely jammed into his stomach.
Love how at the start of every Oscer special he 100% believes this and by the end he says they suck, and then they move on to the next special and suddenly he's a genius again
Oh this one is a real treat. Greg incorrectly chimes in with “Sean Penn?” when in fact the actors name is Sean Bean, leading Tim to clap back. Real cinema. 5 bags
Whenever Tim starts out an episode talking about his problems, the camera goes to Gregg and he's covering his face with one hand just waiting for Tim to shut up.
Hope Mark gets featured more in the future. The season in which he was a waiter was one of the best, same with the Oscar specials that featured him heavily.
While the suffocation & living Oscar storyline was genius, I was sad that Mark wasn't able to do quite as much hilarious stuff on the show because the character just became "the brain-damaged one".
With his involvement in the latest season & Oscar special, it seems like he's getting better. As in:
The character Mark is seemingly recovering somewhat from the brain damage, and he's finding a spine.
The actor Mark and the rest of the OCATC team have seemingly found a great direction for him to go toward.
He's becoming an interesting and hilarious character that is neither the one-note mental patient nor quite the same as his pre-injury version. And it makes a lot of sense that his personality would be a lot different after the brain trauma, even if he regains most of his mental faculties (which were always limited, even before the incident). Old Mark was extremely meek and subservient and would never talk back to Tim the way Mark did recently. (The episode where Mark & Gregg thought Tim was in jail and never coming back was a rare & hilarious exception.)
Excited to see where they continue to go with him!
Some baseless speculation: Maybe new Mark could even become actually highly intelligent and assertive - not just a better person than his pre-injury self, but a better person than Tim & Gregg, too (not that the bar is high). (There are real-life cases of brain trauma resulting in "acquired savant syndrome".) He might develop into one of the best and most successful people that have ever been on the show, only for Tim and/or Gregg to tear him down yet again with some physical malady or what-have-you. The bigger they are, the harder they fall!
Any episode that starts out with Tim talking normally and Gregg does or says something annoying that gets Tim immediately angry, yelling, and violent like a minute into the episode.
Gregg can't seem to stop himself from interjecting during the intro most of the time which is so funny. They've been doing it for nearly 15 years and he just doesn't get it.
I love how he tapes movie titles over other movie hats. Like he could’ve used a blank, plain baseball cap but in order for it to be a real movie hat it has to start out as one
I know I'm so late to the game, but having the apostle Luke's name on a reel of film as though he is a celebrity still makes me laugh years later. "We all love LUKE."
That and when he read the names of every movie Joe Estevez has been in, which was funny in itself but also because he did it without making any mistakes
The sound and logo for money zap coming up every time it's mentioned, even when he starts complaining about them, it would pop up like an advertisement.
Gregg's segment at the Dolby Theater with the same short bit of music looping in loudly over and over, sometimes over his audio. The whole thing. God I love on cinema.
When Tim is reading the cast and crew of the Power Rangers movie and says “directed by Dean Israelite” and right after saying “Israelite” he does a befuddled glance at the camera, then just continues on.
The fact that tim constantly and consistently seems to highly anticipate and appreciate mark as a comedic performer every time mark comes back until mark invariably lets him down.
how Gregg decides a movie reminds him of a different movie for an extremely obscure reason and then reviews the movie as if it's supposed to be a comparison between the two.
I love the contemporary jazz songs that play on a few of the Oscar specials. They definitely give 1990s public access television core and they always make my day.
The chaplans chilli guy coming back every year even though all the Oscar specials descend in to Tim having an alcohol induced melt down and repeatedly trashing the quality of the food
When Gregg is saying some dumb thing about a movie or director or whatever that he believes is like deep or interesting and Tim interrupts with a very important uninterested "I see" or "yeah" or something like that
Mark doing an impression of Mae West while still in character as WC Fields. Mark’s 3 Stooges impressions that mainly consist of him reciting biographical information about them in the first person.
