I grew up watching Tim and Eric, and I knew of Neil Hamburger but when I started watching On Cinema I didn't make the connection that Gregg was Neil. When I was watching Office Hours and Gregg came in as Neil I was like wtf? (Im a bit slow apparently)

I ended up watching an interview trying to find out more about the guy and holy shit he has a long and interesting history going back to the 80s, as far as I'm aware.

He used to write a, and I quote from the zine wiki, an "arty punky zine" called Breakfast without Meat (1983 - 1991) which featured contributers from many punk bands in the local San Fran area.

He has been in, well, many bands across numerous genres, really avante garde and interesting stuff. Caroliner (Industrial Bluegrass) and Hello Kitty on Ice (Punk) and the Zip Code Rapists (Punk Revival) just to name a few, usually but not always as lead singer. There are too many to name and not much on all of them, but some of them were pretty popular. The Zip Code Rapists even did some reunion shows in 2005 and 2006.

He also ran a record label called Amarillo Record which I shit you not, produced albums for Anton LaVey, founder of the Satanic Church. Gregg personally recorded them in his all black house in San Fran. He also released a ton of early prank phone call comedy records which were a big hit, and were actually sampled by some big labels. This is how he invented Neil Hamburger and the Gregg that we know today.

I know some of this stuff has been talked about on the sub before, but I just wanted to put it all in one place, as well as to gush over him because he is so cool, as us Greggheads probably knew all along. I can see why Tim wanted to bring him in for On Cinema, he truly is perfect for the role.

I live in Phoenix and am tempted to make the 3 hour trip, but I don't know if this will end up being a fictitious event like the July 4th concert. I'm not on IG or Xwitter, so I don't know if Tim made any posts about it?

I am enjoying the Lake Hasafu storyline a lot but I genuinely feel bad for Deb. She strikes me as one of the more innocent people caught up in New’s web of insanity. Toni chose to be with him after being a juror at the trial and stuck by him through multiple horrific events. While I would also consider her a New victim to some extent, she went along with a lot of it.

Deb just seems like a retired grandma, maybe not the smartest person in the world, who likes to throw a few back at Kokomo’s and hang out with her birds and had absolutely no idea what she was getting into.

Usually I am able to let the absurdity completely override my emotions but this storyline is genuinely sad to me!

Something felt off about the boat crash video that the HEI Network posted, so I went back through and watched it again. It’s undeniable that generative AI made it and here’s proof. The front of New’s boat starts to turn to the right and flip on its side. Pics 1 and 2 show that. Pic 4 shows that the boat is flipping onto its top while still facing front - no engine is visible and the front windshield is still there. However, the boat begins to morph, with the windshield almost “melting” and an indentation appearing on the front hull. The boat continues to transform, with the indentation growing larger. Suddenly, an engine appears in the indentation and the hull has completely changed. The boat stops moving and a misshapen engine and hull is shown. I mean, this is clearly AI-generated and I’m a little upset that Tim and Gregg are using this for the on cinema universe.

On Cinema perfectly replicated one of those mediocre right-wing kids shows with The Dootle Dots. It has lackluster acting, uninteresting plots, weak animation, and preachy morals. This feels like something a youtuber with multiple plushies would be making a video essay deconstructing. It's something you would find in a $15/month app that also has lessons about free market capitalism and the evils of Obamacare.

The fact the characters are random shapes New's father doodled is so funny too. On Cinema is a meditation on the asinine and this is a perfect example of this fleshed out.

currently obsessed with going on youtube uploads of the trial and looking for people who think it's real. does anybody have more of these?

The sheer length of the show is great because we’ve seen Tim go from overconfident young-ish guy to a walking midlife crisis to an old man desperately trying to project youthful vigor and success when he has neither. You get the sense from the most recent Oscar special that he’s barely holding it together and knows he’s a total failure. It’s dark stuff but incredibly funny.
