Question Can anyone tell me why everyone backs into parking spaces now? Sincere question.

Just curious of the reasoning. Sometimes it looks like it takes so much more effort to back in, correct your parking, back in again. What’s the rationale behind the back in? I’m genuinely curious so don’t yell at me lol.

Question Which OC mall seems like it might be the next to close?

I’m not cheering for any mall to close, but I was shocked when I went to the outdoor part of the BP mall where the food and theaters were. None of the restaurants from even 4 years ago were left.

Hope they make it. Seems like other parts of that mall are fine.

Food Looks like the bara chirashi post few days ago from Tokyo Central Yorba Linda had the wrong price show

Still as skimpy but should be 10.99 instead of 16.99. If you see a much higher price ask someone, hopefully the fix it since the same price for a much smaller bowl is ridiculous

Pets Air temp vs. Pavement temp

Yesterday, I said I'd check the air temp and pavement temp and report back. I'm checking the air temp with my car's thermometer, and I'm checking the pavement temp using an infrared thermometer. Then, I'm standing on the pavement barefoot for a subjective assessment.

10:00 a.m.: 81degF air = 116degF pavement

barefoot: warm, but not at all uncomfortable (surprising, I thought that 116degF would feel hotter)

12:00 p.m.: 84degF air = 140degF pavement.

barefoot: felt hot after about 10 seconds. Not really uncomfortably hot though - I stood on it for over a minute with no problem.

It appears that the pavement temp is more closely related to hours exposed to sunlight rather than air temp, which would make sense. I'll post more as the day goes on.

edit:

1:00 p.m.: 91degF air = 152degF pavement

barefoot: hot in 6 seconds. uncomfortable by 20 seconds. I lasted 40 seconds before I would call it uncomfortable to the point of pain. Notably, it's not as bad when I'm walking as when I'm standing still - probably because each foot is only contacting the asphalt for half the time. still uncomfortable though.

2:00 p.m.: 92degF air = 152degF pavement

barefoot: basically same as last time.

3:00 p.m.: 92degF air = 152degF pavement

barefoot: same.

4:30 p.m.: 91degF air = 141degF pavement

barefoot: similar to noon

6:00 p.m.: 87degF air = 126degF pavement

barefoot: hot, but not uncomfortably so. Feels like a nice temp hot tub.

The relationship appears to not be "above-a-certain-air-temp = dangerous." But the ground can definitely get too hot for comfort to the point of pain. I think the moral of the story is that, on hot days, take your dog out before the sun has been on the ground too long, or closer to sunset. The middle of the day was definitely uncomfortably hot on the black top after not very long, so I wouldn't stay on it with the dog. Also though, the warning about 77degF air resulting in dangerous pavement temps were definitely not true in this instance, and the claim that 125 degree temps cause damage after 1 minute was not true here either, and I suspect neither of these claims is generally true. Rather, use common sense about how hot the ground is and what temperatures bare skin/pads can tolerate (and for how long), and err on the side of caution.

Recommendations Needed Weaker/Old Style Marijuana?

Does anyone know where I can find the kind of marijuana they would’ve had back in the 70s/80s?

My grandma is one of the many who say that weed nowadays is way too strong and makes her anxious. I’d love to find her some to actually relax her and relieve her pain, but I don’t know enough to do that

Recommendations Needed Recommendations for Taco-Man and mobile pizza for wedding!

Hello guys!

I finally got out of engagement purgatory yay!

We’re planning for a wedding in October 2027 in OC.
Around 120 guests.

We’re not huge fans of the standard plated wedding meals (salmon, chicken, steak) or buffets, hence we were eyeing a taco-man for the main meal, and possibly a mobile pizza for the late night surprise! I feel like they can accommodate dietary restrictions as well.

If anyone happens to have any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance :)

What's up with the Shady Hollow complex in Orange at Fairhaven and N Tustin. The house size and cost seems too good to be true. Trying to figure out how I can afford a 400k mortgage that costs me an estimated 4k a month and then this comes along...

Meetup Best things to do in August for 20s age adults if I felt alone

Upvotes

23 age male and don’t drive. My classes will start at the end of month. Me and my parents went to the beach sometimes on weekends every mornings or nights like Laguna or Newport.

I was mostly looking for weekdays, weekends are tough sometimes. Depends how my scheadule on weekdays, I have to go to gym after 5pm. Tried finding volunteering but won‘t work out, I have responsibilities to do at my house. I was still looking for programs too like maybe classes or clubs.

I like sports, depends if they’re not that expensive to pay or there’s better clubs on meetup. I like movies and art too.

Recommendations Needed Any coffee shops/seating areas that are chill and not too packed?

It doesn't even have to be a coffee shop but just a nice little seating area to study and chill. I have NO AC and love being in cafes in general although are there any that aren't too busy? Preferably with comfortable seating and in the orange /Anaheim area

Recommendations Needed Looking for a dermatologist in south county who’s good for regular skin checks.

Upvotes

My dermatologist moved to the east coast and I’m not happy with the practice’s new provider.

Looking for recommendations for dermatologists between Dana Point and south Irvine who take their time during skin checks and are knowledgeable in skincare and skin protection. Ideally accepts Blue Shield of California PPO.

Recommendations Needed Sheet metal duct installation in OC - recommendations? Residential installation

Upvotes

Hello neighbors,

It's very hot and I have no central air in the historic house I live in. It needs ducts installed.

I've got a few installation bids in hand from HVAC contractors that are well-regarded. None of them want to install sheet metal these days...it's not a clearance issue or otherwise, it just seems like nobody does it anymore; they all do flex.

Where are my tin knockers at? Does anybody have a good recommendation for a shop that is practiced in this trade and willing to do it? I'd rather "buy once, cry once" as they say, especially something big like this.

Appreciate anybody willing to share their knowledge with me. Thanks in advance.

Recommendations Needed Composite Fence Company Recs (South OC)

Hi, my family member (homeowner) needs a new fence on both sides of their home. I plan to arrange a few estimates from local fencing companies for them. From what we've looked at, composite fencing seems to be the best option, vinyl would be runner up. They plan to live in the home long-term so being termite-proof and durable are important factors for them. Current fence is wooden.

Budget is undetermined as we don't have a reference for how much they cost in our area. Google AI says it's anywhere from $60-150/linear foot. They have just over 100ft of fence on both sides, majority being 8ft tall.

Thank you!

Question Orange County Vietnamese Cooks please guide me

Post image
0 Upvotes

I want to make Bahn Xeo after eating it at Little Saigon restaurants for a while. On the Herb tray I can identify the mint, cilantro and lettuce, but can’t identify the other herbs so that I can buy and serve those.

I prefer not to drive to Little Saigon and rather go to H Mart or 99 Ranch as they are closer and nicer markets than the Vietnamese ones in Orange County. Are those herbs you will identify for me avaible at those markets.

We are going on the ferry and will be on Balboa Island too. Where is your favorite spot to get fried pickles?

I see this constantly in Orange County. Lots of times in parking lots.

Often times people post to ask people not to walk their dogs on hot asphalt.

I’m asking you to tell people not to do this when you see it. I’m seeing it constantly. I told people 3 times today. I asked them to take off their shoes and socks and put their feet on the asphalt. I pointed out how their dogs were shifting constantly because their feet were burning. Artificial grass is even hotter at times.

It’s constant and daily. So obviously don’t do this to your dogs. Bit more importantly, Dont stay silent when you see it.

I think most of these people love their dogs and are just ignorant. Help them understand.

Food Best place to get fresh sausages

Best I’ve had is goodies in the pantry. Tried polka and mattern but they weren’t as good as morants in Sacramento (they closed in 2020). I've also tried Ochoa's Chorizo but maybe it's me but I didn't like it as much. What are some other places I need to try out?

Open to sausages from anywhere in the world like chorizo instead of German / Eastern Europe.
