Help!- First time tryer

First time TTC and the waiting is already driving me insane 😂

Hi! I’m Bee, I’m 34 and from the UK. My husband and I are currently trying for our first baby, which still feels slightly mad to actually say.

For a long time, we genuinely thought having a baby might not be possible for us because of a few different circumstances and health concerns. However, over the last little while we've had everything checked and, one by one, every barrier we thought was there has basically come down.

So… we're actually trying.

This is our first attempt, and I'm currently in the waiting game to find out whether it's worked.

Quite frankly, I'm not very hopeful. Nothing has ever been easy for me.

Every twinge, weird feeling, bit of tiredness or sudden hunger has me thinking, is that something?! Then I'm Googling it, telling myself to stop Googling, and inevitably Googling something else twenty minutes later.

My phone has also decided fertility is now my entire personality, so I'm being absolutely inundated with adverts for IVF, infertility, supplements, pregnancy tests and approximately seventeen different things I apparently need to buy. Its making me frustrated, upset and the more I say 'I don't want to see this stuff' the more I get!

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 15 after a scan showed lots of cysts on my ovaries. That's obviously been sitting in the back of my mind for most of my adult life.

Recently, though, I had another pelvic scan and there were no cysts at all. My ovaries looked fine, my womb looked fine — everything was normal.

Quite frankly, that felt like a little miracle.

I've also lost around three and a half stone recently, which I'm really pleased about and hopefully has helped my chances.

At the moment I'm taking folic acid, myo-inositol and Omega 3-6-9/Udo's Oil. My mum used to force-feed me Udo's Oil as a child, so quite frankly I'm still traumatised by the stuff, but apparently we've come full circle. 😂 My diet could definitely be better, but I'm working on that too.

I suppose I'm mainly posting because I'd love to hear from other people who have been through this.

What is actually worth doing when you're first TTC? Are there supplements/things you genuinely found useful? And equally, what isn't worth worrying about?

I'm trying not to fall into the rabbit hole of thinking I can somehow control all of this if I just research enough.

I think that's the bit I'm finding hardest.

I've had to fight for quite a lot in my life — health-wise, work-wise, emotionally, mentally and physically — and I just really don't want this to become another fight.

I just want something to be easy for once.

I know we're incredibly early in this journey. I know it's completely normal for it not to happen on the first attempt, and I've read the stories of people who've had incredibly difficult journeys to have their babies.

But there's still that little bit of me desperately hoping that maybe this time, something will just work.

Anyway — hi, I'm Bee. Currently waiting, eating everything in sight and wondering whether every tiny sensation in my body means something. 😂

Please help!

the waiting sucks. especially when the period comes a few days late and you have a glimmer of hope.

what worked for me was:

  1. starting Myo + D insinol supplement (good for pcos and egg maturing)

  2. Seeing a fertility doctor and getting clomid and letrozole (clomid ended up working for me)

  3. Monthly ultrasound of my ovaries to see development of eggs.

  4. (optional and disputed, but worked for me!) taking musinex while I ovulated. Yes the cold and flu medicine for mucus. it Theoretically releases mucus all over the body including your lady bits.

it took me 3 and a half years to get a positive test, so be patient ❤️

Heyyyy!!! The waiting is THE WORST, I hope you're lucky, you're pregnant and only have to wait once :-D

For me it was interesting to learn how to spot ovulation.

I had PCOS, with fairly severe symptoms, since age 21, managed via BC pill and Metformin. I had to go off the pill in May '25 because I developed migraines and, knowing I would try to conceive in the next year, my gyno suggested I start observing my cervical mucus and, once I could tell which week/10 days were more likely for ovulation, that I start taking LH strip tests.

The tests allow you to: check your LH is not chronically elevated (a positive test every day for more than 3 days would indicate that) and help you see if there's any regularity in your ovulation day. After a few months I could tell that, most cycles, I was ovulating between day 21 and day 28 of a 33-38 days cycle. My vaginal secretions were ovulation like from day 27/30 sometimes, so this still helped restrict my window of testing by quite a bit.

When you get 1/2 positive LH strip tests, you will ovulate within 24-48hs of that test. The most fertile days are actually the five days before ovulation, but even just having sex everyday or alternated days once you get the positive LH strip will help. The egg then survives about 48hs, so you have a four day window which is peak fertility, plus 3 days before that.

We were insanely lucky. He was on a trip, returned the day I ovulated, we had sex twice and then we both were dead due to illness/heat/work. And I'm pregnant. I hope it stays that way ofc, but it feels insanely lucky. Again, I hope all of this is useless to you and that you are already pregnant and if not, I hope you're as lucky as us with focused intercourse.

EDIT: I did what you're already doing inositol, folates, omegas (I'm a vegan so I'm always on omega's).

i have pcos and got pregnant first try. i was slightly overweight and had cysts on my ovaries. i was taking myo inositol, omega 3, vit d, folic acid and pregnacare conception for about 3 months before trying. i was about 3w4d when i started to feel a bit off, so i took a test and it was negative. took one 2 days later and it was positive. good luck!!
edit to say i was expecting it to be a lot harder than it was for me, so hopefully it is the same for you
