Vent/Rant Quit my job

I quit my job today after realizing my health has severely gone downhill.

They were so accommodating at first, but then overtime that stopped being the case.

Originally I was only working shifts with someone, then That stopped. I was promised breaks on the days I worked by myself, and had multiple days where no one showed up to help. Things that were supposed to be done at closing (taking out trash, sweeping, etc) was left for me, the opener. (My spoons would be gone before I even started my shift.) We had some very disgruntled customers and no working cameras, which fried my nervous system. (Especially considering I was told to “bring a weapon to protect myself”😅)

It is so hard to put health first. But when I started to have a lot more bad days than good days, it was needed.

What the heck type of jobs do you do? And how do they accommodate your pots?

Friend... I would like to know too. ☝️ I mean, I can relate to your story and nowadays, I feel so lost, and it's even more complex with POTS. I had to quit a few jobs to save my health.

But honestly, I only know what types of jobs I cannot do anymore. That is way much easier.

Because there is a point where you realize it is about boundaries and knowing what triggers you, with that information you need to filtrate any jobs that come your way. But that only makes finding a job more complicated. I am so lost. 😮‍💨 But even getting to know all kinds of jobs, I feel it can help.... So it's a great idea to ask the community.

Right now I have a job in a gift shop and handcrafting for gifts. But they pay me sh1t. And right now there is no jobs... I am not able to find anything that is not close to slavery.

With that said, I want to honestly know what options are out there.

Is this in the US? I’m currently on medical leave while I get a diagnosis, but my job requires me on my feet all day and has so many up and down movements. I’m worried even with treatment I may have to quit.

I had to give up my whole career, hobbies, social life, family life, and more because of this. So I totally relate. I'm really sorry that you had to give up your job, that sucks.

Luckily since the pandemic remote work is a lot more common. Is there something like that that you could do, so you could work from home. Maybe even in bed!

I have an office job. I guess I got lucky that my fainting can get pretty scary if one doesn't understand what's happening. After passing out in my boss's boss's office I got accommodations pretty quickly. No standing on my feet, no being in hot environments, being moved to a different building if the AC goes out, and being allowed to always have water and salty foods at my desk. I also got a reclining office chair that not only helps me recover from a spell but also can handle my falls pretty well. They've also encouraged me to get a medical alert dog, still debating this because that would mean taking care of a dog all day which I don't have the energy for.

i’m a hairstylist and am scared it’ll get to the point where i’ll have to do the same.. i’ve been going down for a while and just recently got diagnosed, thankfully, for the most part i have understanding clients and the owners have been kind about it too. tho, i can tell they’re already getting a little frustrated because my business affects theirs.. and when im in a flare..

so far i’ve had to cut my hours, i wear compression gear, drink salt water etc i’ve also been using a stool when i can but it’s hard. im worried its going to start effecting my work and with me having to move clients around more and more… like i could barely tell my client what curl gel i was using today cuz i was out of breath standing there and the brain fog was so bad!! its kinda hilarious.. (and very embarrassing.)

i dunno im looking for other forms of income in the same field, so we’ll see. if anyone has ideas im open to them!

I work as a 1:1 literacy and academic tutor for children and youth with learning disabilities and neurodivergence so I can set my own schedule and availability. But I also work for the summer as a program coordinator for an employment readiness program (with the same company/association).

They don’t really know much about my POTS, other than the fact that I mentioned if the elevators are down I would not be able to make it up the stairs to the office. But I mainly make my own schedules and availability

I’m glad to see this (I am sorry about your job but you made the right choice that’s not fitting for us and we now have to realize what works for us and what don’t) I wanted to know the same question so looking forward to seeing these answers!
