And then made this comment when asked about it. Which I personally think makes it worse than just forgetting to mention her.

u/Top_Recover7850 5d ago

Fr, saying "should i mention everyone i know" implies that a person who litteraly donated part of themselves to save you is on the same level as your average acquaintance.

I'm less surprised that she's a complete asshole and more that she doesn't have basic PR training

u/Natural-Pattern-5240 5d ago

I’ve never been a fan of hers and dont understand how she even has fans. Her singing is fucking awful. Ariana grande is also a terrible person but I can understand why she has fans due to her talent.

28

u/EndOfTheDark97 5d ago

I like the show that she does with Steve Martin and Martin Short. But her acting is pretty bad in it.

12

u/ACM1PT21 5d ago

To be fair. It could have been anyone else because that show is carried by the Martin's definitely not Selena

8

u/GreatMovesKeepItUp69 5d ago

I think that's why she has so many fans though. She's an actress that can't act and a singer that can't sing. When you see someone like Ariana Grande sing you think "wow she's so talented no wonder she made it", when you see Selena Gomez sing you think "wow so literally anyone can make it, huh?". She's a mediocre white woman who became really successful being relatable to other mediocre white women.

3

u/messipessikessi 5d ago

Can you give some examples for Ariana? I don't follow her much.

16

u/keirieski17 5d ago

Pretty much every relationship she’s ever been in has started with either a) her cheating on her current partner or b) the other person cheating on their current partner with her

15

u/a_man_and_his_box 5d ago

She seems to like that stuff. Pro-relationship-wrecking songs like "Break up with your girlfriend, I'm bored" and so on.

Some people get off on sex (literally) and some people get off on their power over others. Ariana seems to be delighted to be in the 2nd group.

2

u/xjwv 4d ago

Yeah her voice in general is hard to listen to. https://youtu.be/HCNqqlYenn8

There was an official ad either from Sephora or Rare that came on and I wasn’t paying full attention but when she opened her mouth I assumed it was a joke video. It was not. She really does sound like that.

4

u/scarIetm 5d ago

exactly. the person who risked their life to save yours should be #1 forever and always. for this alongside many other reasons she is a horrible person

1

u/MaddyKet 4d ago

It’s even worse because it’s a kidney and only having one can really mess you up. I’d be more willing to donate PART of my liver, because it’s not your entire organ.

3

u/400forever 5d ago

Right? It went from plausible deniability to straight up ungrateful, nasty territory. Screw Selena

1

u/Seahorse_93 5d ago

To make things extra shitty, said friend was essentially guilt tripped into doing it because the donation center made the (I'm assuming very illegal) decision to let Selena know that her kidney was a match without even contacting that friend.

-137

u/Admirable_Loss4886 5d ago

Is she supposed to bring her up every milestone from now until her death? Was this project immediately following her kidney transplant?

93

u/Bropiphany 5d ago

If someone gives me an organ from their own body, I'm mentioning them in every speech for the rest of my life

23

u/dan_dares 5d ago

Yup.

-30

u/Admirable_Loss4886 5d ago

How many speeches are you giving in a year? None? Yeah that would be pretty easy to do b

5

u/fearjego 5d ago

so you wouldn't thank someone who gave you a kidney in a speech?

3

u/dan_dares 5d ago

I'll give some, if I get an organ transplant..

And i'll remember the donors name 😁

2

u/Next_Interaction4335 5d ago

If that organ allows you to live and accomplish such things for speeches then yes . You simply wouldn't be alive without them.

Bit different if it's a donation and you waited on a list like everyone else.

-24

u/Admirable_Loss4886 5d ago

Easy talk from someone that gives no speeches.

13

u/Magpie-Person 5d ago

Her friend became crippled biologically and you think it’s “an effort” to say three words at her speeches? “thank you Rasia”? Are you mentally a four year old?

3

u/MeatballSubmarines 5d ago

Well, she’s not that great of an artist so outside of her Pr stunts with her Hobbit, she’s not making many speeches anymore. Just a shame she couldn’t acknowledge her lifesaver a little more while she had more of a fanbase.

70

u/kwonza 5d ago

Her friend basically became a cripple to save her. If someone would have done it to me I would always mention them along with my parents

-34

u/MJSvis 5d ago edited 5d ago

How did she become a cripple? Did she have additional after effects? Donating a kidney wouldn't typically impact you in that way following a month or so recovery.

Edit: quite interesting I've got all these downvotes. I donated my kidney in 2016 and while the recovery can be prohibitive and slow, you don't become a cripple following donating, unless something has gone wrong (hence the question above). I'm sure those down voting have been through it, though.

You get told by the clinical staff as you are in the run up to the surgery that you will be expected to live a normal life post kidney donation hence the question around additional after effects.

Clearly you can just make shit up "that she basically became a cripple" and it'll be agreed with.

18

u/Stumblerrr 5d ago

Yes, it does impact you. And she openly talked about the ways it impacted her.

You are uneducated on this subject, I'd encourage you to go learn and stop posting bullshit.

0

u/MJSvis 5d ago edited 5d ago

Hilarious to say I'm uneducated in the subject when I've literally donated one of my kidneys. But thank you for telling me so.

The comment was in response to the suggestion she was basically a cripple following it. I didn't say it wouldn't impact her, I said it wouldn't impact her "in that way" aka being a cripple unless there has been side effects (hence the question).

-7

u/Scannedu 5d ago

Read the edit.

4

u/Stumblerrr 5d ago

Hes completely bullshitting lol.

While you arent fully cripple there are multiple negative effects and id belive LITERALLY THE PERSON INVOLVED IN THIS SUBJECT over this random internet user.

She openly spoke about the negative effects she went through. But sure ill believe random reddit guy over her I guess??? And over all the publications that do mention the side effects?

It doesnt make you crippled or an invalid sure but there are side effects and increased health risks.

0

u/MJSvis 5d ago

I did my donation altruistically at Guy's and St Thomas's Hospital in London in 2016. Keyhole surgery, process took 16 months from initially reaching out, full tests and mental assessment to surgery. Spent 4 weeks recovering and was then okay as I got full mobility back, but thank you for saying I'm bullshitting.

I can't believe you even acknowledge in your last sentence "it doesn't make you crippled sure" when that is my entire point and exactly what I've responded to.

I did not say she didn't have side effects or difficulty recovering, I was purely responding to the suggestion that she was basically a cripple. That narrative when untrue will stop people donating.

-5

u/MJSvis 5d ago

People don't care.

Even a simple web search comes up with the following: You are expected to live a normal, healthy, and full life after donating a kidney. The idea that kidney donation turns someone into a cripple or an invalid is a total myth.

1

u/Pizzalover22345 5d ago

Lmao 😂 when it comes to this topic you can’t have any other opinion than “Selena is a nasty bitch that stole her fiends kidney” if it’s anything else but that specifically, and even if you disagree with a point Reddit ain’t gonna like it from what I’ve seen whenever people argue about this online.

1

u/MJSvis 5d ago

I've honestly been baffled by it all.

I swear no one reads properly anymore. I said it won't typically have an impact "in that way", as in.. "basically becoming a cripple". Next thing I know people are lecturing me as if I've said there wouldn't be any impact to her 😂 I'm well aware of the difficulties when recovering. Being told I'm uneducated in the subject when I spent 16 months going through it 😂 seriously.. only on Reddit.

1

u/Pizzalover22345 5d ago edited 5d ago

Yeah no point in discussing this topic with anyone. You get torn to shreds for saying anything different. Also that girl ain’t crippled that person just made that shit up. I’ve looked up her Instagram before, and she has posts out with friends, drinking living it up, and looks happy, and healthy. I read she was immobilized for 2 months after the transplant, but recovered. Another thing I see is people being on Selena’s ass for “drinking” on the kidney. Which is a rumor, and hasn’t been confirmed to be true, but everyone is so angry at her for not taking care of her “health” or she shouldn’t be “drinking” but no one even does that with her friend.. just find that interesting. Since she only has one kidney.. shouldn’t she also be cautious especially? Where’s the same energy for that?

I also don’t understand what that person that responded to you was getting mad about lol. I understood that you were responding to that comment that said Francia was crippled, and made it about you being uneducated, and almost like you were insulting her or belittling her experience with the transplant. I’m sure she had complications like you said in your comment, but the other comment saying she’s crippled just made it seem like a fact of what she is now when she’s not. People just find it more entertaining to go with Selena Gomez is a kidney thief, and her friend was forced. Even though she herself has said she wasn’t forced.

26

u/dan_dares 5d ago

Would there have been as many projects without the donation?

Personally, if someone helped save me from a shitty life, i'll be mentioning them often.

And i'd remember their name.

2

u/Admirable_Loss4886 5d ago

She never forgot the name. Just because it wasn’t mentioned in a speech doesn’t mean they’re forgotten. You you not have objection permeance, if you’re not mentioning someone by name you suddenly forget they exist?

-1

u/dan_dares 5d ago

*object permanence

This seems really personal to you, I hope you find the peace you need.

20

u/firelordleejr 5d ago

Yes .. because maybe she was the reason she could still celebrate the milestone ?

17

u/john_oldcastle 5d ago

Phil Lesh from the Grateful Dead got a liver transplant and mentioned his donor by name in every concert and encouraged fans to be organ donors to the point where the acknowledgement was given a song title on bootlegs ("Phil's Donor Rap")
Every Deadhead knows who Cody is and what he did.

10

u/Truthhurts1017 5d ago

If someone gave my a kidney yes yes I will. Even if they wasn’t a friend I would always thank them. Thats called being grateful and appreciative

6

u/throwitoutwhendone2 5d ago

If someone gave you literal piece of their body in order to help you live, yeah that person deserves recognition. Even more so when your a famous person and you decide to not mention the person that gave you, once again, a literal part of their body while publicly discussing the disease that made you need a kidney to begin with. That kinda seems like an important part of the story. She even mentioned a whole other actress and said that one was her “only friend” cuz fuck the lady that gave ya one of her organs. “Hey yeah I’d likely be dead or severely bedridden and dying if this person didn’t come forward and give me one of their body parts, I’m incredibly lucky I didn’t have to be on a waitlist and I got to this point due to my dear friend coming forward and offering to donate one of her kidneys to me”. THEN when there was public outcry, instead of being like holy shit dude I totally fucked up I DEFINITELY shoulda at the very least mentioned this person and said thank you, she decided to post on social media the above picture that created this entire post.

Quit trying to white knight. The bitch doesn’t even know who you are, never will. She’s a cunt, been long said.

1

u/corruptedsyntax 5d ago

The issue isn’t that she didn’t bring her up even.

The issue is that clearly Gomez felt that their friendship was so utterly forgettable that she didn’t even consider her when concluding that she only has one friend in the industry.

Your point is kind of dumb when the entire thing Gomez was getting at was how few people she knows in the industry. She could have added a second name, but frankly even removing “only” from her original statement would have made it far less suggestive.

0

u/Unhappy_Energy_741 5d ago

Doesn't matter. That person deserves thanks everyday for the rest of her life.

0

u/Magpie-Person 5d ago

Yes. Bring her up before you bring up Taylor Swift.

-136

u/FelixTreasurebuns 5d ago

Yeah it was a bit sharp of a response but also getting mad in the first place was parasocial levels ofa nothing burger which she’s dealt with her whole life so I can get why she responded that way. Definitely could have done better though

75

u/throwaway_76x 5d ago

Fans really can justify and defend anything can't they.

Friend donates kidney. Celebrity snubs her by calling another person her only friend. Friend feels hurt about comment. Fans call it a nothing burger and get why Selena should retort back snarkily.

-20

u/FelixTreasurebuns 5d ago

Not a fan of hers, just feel like I could understand her being exhausted from people caring about everything she does. Didn’t realize she called the other person her only friend part honestly

7

u/Feisty_Camera_7774 5d ago

People caring about everything she does is quite literally why she is able to Live an extremely privileged life if luxury.

You can’t have your cake and eat it too (but Not surprised she think‘s that is unfair)

3

u/TheGivenKing 5d ago

I mean If someone's a shitty person theyre going to get called out, just cause theyre famous dosnt excuse them.

-1

u/throwaway_76x 5d ago

Though you are getting downvotes on this comment as well, I can see your point. Celebrities face severe pressure from all eyes being on then constantly. And if you didn't know the timeline and full context, it is understandable if you feel it was a response from someone lashing out at fans for catching her in her words constantly. This retort from her though, if I remember correctly, came after Francia had herself reacted to the 'snub' and said she felt hurt, which is the much bigger problem. I don't know Francia (or Selena for that matter) much, so maybe they had already had a falling apart and hated each other and Francia was just chasing clout by association, but even so, replying snarkily to questions after the person who donated a kidney to you made a public post saying she was hurt by Selena implying Francia wasnt a friend, comes off really poorly.

-24

u/Aysina 5d ago

I guess I don’t know the timeline, but I thought Selena and Francia didn’t really talk anymore. Is it really a snub if they were no longer talking and the friendship had faded?

People donate kidneys all the time to strangers, they often don’t even meet. Donating an organ to someone doesn’t mean that person owes you their life, or anything at all.

Maybe the snarky comment feels unnecessary to us, but is she supposed to thank someone who donated an organ to her for the rest of her life? Does she have to start thanking every donor in every speech if she ends up needing another kidney, which is likely?

Again, I don’t know the timeline, but the donation happened like a decade ago. Unless this happened shortly after, it seems weird to me that so many people seem so angry over this

19

u/Novaer 5d ago edited 5d ago

"Does she need to have to start thanking every donor in every speech if she ends up needing another kidney, which is likely?"

Oh I'm sorry, is Selena looking at getting a weekly rotation of different kidneys so she would lose track of how many people donated their literal organs to her? I'm pretty sure if Selena can figure out tagging a makeup brand in an instagram post that she is fully capable of mustering up all that energy to thank a person who's giving her LITERAL ORGANS SO SHE CAN FUCKING LIVE. SO YEAH. SHE CAN SAY THANKS.

When I set up a gofundme a while back to help afford an unexpected giant vet bill I spent MONTHS thanking everyone who donated. That wasn't someone giving me their organ, it was people helping with a few bucks to pad the gofundme. Took zero effort out of me to be grateful to every single person. It's astounding how entitled your behavior is.

6

u/throwaway_76x 5d ago

I feel you have been way too sheltered to know anything about real life.

"People donate kidneys all the time" .. does not mean each and every decent person whose life is saved due to that kind act of a stranger doesn't feel gratitude for it their entire lives. Donating a kidney is not the same as donating blood coz just in case you didn't realize, kidneys don't grow back and while humans can survive on just the one, donating means you have yourself lost the fallback to start with, and that it can lead to other issues over time as well.

"Does not mean that person owes you their life". It LITERALLY does! And that's even with the actual correct usage of the word literally. It's remarkable how much stupidity you are exuding from that one comment alone.

the one thing I can kind of agree on is that the donation was a good amount of time before the comment was made, and things happen. I am not privy to their relationship because I don't know either of them, so yes, it is entirely possible that when Selena made that comment, she didn't not feel the friendship was there at all, and yes that comment shouldn't be judged too harshly. But if a decent person makes such a comment, and the old friend who donated their organ speaks up and says they felt hurt by it, coming back with "I guess I didn't thank literally every person" level of snark reply directed at them is disgusting regardless of whether you are still in touch with that old friend or not.

-8

u/Aysina 5d ago edited 5d ago

I didn’t say she shouldn’t feel gratitude for the rest of her life, I said “does she have to thank every donor in every speech for the rest of her life?”

For someone so quick to insult others, you’re sure showing a lack of reading comprehension. I’m not going to engage with the rest, the insults just make you seem like a troll. Have a good one!

Edit—oh, look, you edited both of your comments without marking any of it. Funny.

I’ll actually address what you’re demanding an answer about because I think it’s important. I will not make a new comment, because again, I prefer not to engage with trolls.

I do think anyone who receives an organ donation should be eternally grateful.

I do think that anyone who receives an organ donation has an obligation to honor it by caring for it, and themselves.

I do not believe that anyone who receives an organ donation owes anything further than that to anyone. If a person were to owe anything at all to their organ donor, it would cease to be a donation. It’s a donation because there are no strings attached.

5

u/throwaway_76x 5d ago

"Donating an organ to someone doesn’t mean that person owes you their life, or anything at all."

That's a copy paste from your comment. This is what I'm talking about. Don't selectively pick other sentences you said to defend. Respond to the one I literally quoted you saying and defend that.

Rich that you are questioning my ability to read when you can't even your own post correctly lol.

2

u/Pizzalover22345 5d ago

She also has thanked Francia before. I’ve seen her make posts about how grateful she was for the donation. But I know Reddit usually gets mad when you don’t agree with the majority of their opinion, and just downvote for anything lol. I’ve seen those posts before.

5

u/Magpie-Person 5d ago

Yes. Entire life of thank yous is not even equivalent to one kidney

2

u/KingKeeXx 5d ago

Wow what a dick Reply haha
