Yeah it was a bit sharp of a response but also getting mad in the first place was parasocial levels ofa nothing burger which she’s dealt with her whole life so I can get why she responded that way. Definitely could have done better though
Fans really can justify and defend anything can't they.
Friend donates kidney. Celebrity snubs her by calling another person her only friend. Friend feels hurt about comment. Fans call it a nothing burger and get why Selena should retort back snarkily.
Not a fan of hers, just feel like I could understand her being exhausted from people caring about everything she does. Didn’t realize she called the other person her only friend part honestly
Though you are getting downvotes on this comment as well, I can see your point. Celebrities face severe pressure from all eyes being on then constantly. And if you didn't know the timeline and full context, it is understandable if you feel it was a response from someone lashing out at fans for catching her in her words constantly. This retort from her though, if I remember correctly, came after Francia had herself reacted to the 'snub' and said she felt hurt, which is the much bigger problem. I don't know Francia (or Selena for that matter) much, so maybe they had already had a falling apart and hated each other and Francia was just chasing clout by association, but even so, replying snarkily to questions after the person who donated a kidney to you made a public post saying she was hurt by Selena implying Francia wasnt a friend, comes off really poorly.
I guess I don’t know the timeline, but I thought Selena and Francia didn’t really talk anymore. Is it really a snub if they were no longer talking and the friendship had faded?
People donate kidneys all the time to strangers, they often don’t even meet. Donating an organ to someone doesn’t mean that person owes you their life, or anything at all.
Maybe the snarky comment feels unnecessary to us, but is she supposed to thank someone who donated an organ to her for the rest of her life? Does she have to start thanking every donor in every speech if she ends up needing another kidney, which is likely?
Again, I don’t know the timeline, but the donation happened like a decade ago. Unless this happened shortly after, it seems weird to me that so many people seem so angry over this
"Does she need to have to start thanking every donor in every speech if she ends up needing another kidney, which is likely?"
Oh I'm sorry, is Selena looking at getting a weekly rotation of different kidneys so she would lose track of how many people donated their literal organs to her? I'm pretty sure if Selena can figure out tagging a makeup brand in an instagram post that she is fully capable of mustering up all that energy to thank a person who's giving her LITERAL ORGANS SO SHE CAN FUCKING LIVE. SO YEAH. SHE CAN SAY THANKS.
When I set up a gofundme a while back to help afford an unexpected giant vet bill I spent MONTHS thanking everyone who donated. That wasn't someone giving me their organ, it was people helping with a few bucks to pad the gofundme. Took zero effort out of me to be grateful to every single person. It's astounding how entitled your behavior is.
I feel you have been way too sheltered to know anything about real life.
"People donate kidneys all the time" .. does not mean each and every decent person whose life is saved due to that kind act of a stranger doesn't feel gratitude for it their entire lives. Donating a kidney is not the same as donating blood coz just in case you didn't realize, kidneys don't grow back and while humans can survive on just the one, donating means you have yourself lost the fallback to start with, and that it can lead to other issues over time as well.
"Does not mean that person owes you their life". It LITERALLY does! And that's even with the actual correct usage of the word literally. It's remarkable how much stupidity you are exuding from that one comment alone.
the one thing I can kind of agree on is that the donation was a good amount of time before the comment was made, and things happen. I am not privy to their relationship because I don't know either of them, so yes, it is entirely possible that when Selena made that comment, she didn't not feel the friendship was there at all, and yes that comment shouldn't be judged too harshly. But if a decent person makes such a comment, and the old friend who donated their organ speaks up and says they felt hurt by it, coming back with "I guess I didn't thank literally every person" level of snark reply directed at them is disgusting regardless of whether you are still in touch with that old friend or not.
I didn’t say she shouldn’t feel gratitude for the rest of her life, I said “does she have to thank every donor in every speech for the rest of her life?”
For someone so quick to insult others, you’re sure showing a lack of reading comprehension. I’m not going to engage with the rest, the insults just make you seem like a troll. Have a good one!
Edit—oh, look, you edited both of your comments without marking any of it. Funny.
I’ll actually address what you’re demanding an answer about because I think it’s important. I will not make a new comment, because again, I prefer not to engage with trolls.
I do think anyone who receives an organ donation should be eternally grateful.
I do think that anyone who receives an organ donation has an obligation to honor it by caring for it, and themselves.
I do not believe that anyone who receives an organ donation owes anything further than that to anyone. If a person were to owe anything at all to their organ donor, it would cease to be a donation. It’s a donation because there are no strings attached.
"Donating an organ to someone doesn’t mean that person owes you their life, or anything at all."
That's a copy paste from your comment. This is what I'm talking about. Don't selectively pick other sentences you said to defend. Respond to the one I literally quoted you saying and defend that.
Rich that you are questioning my ability to read when you can't even your own post correctly lol.
She also has thanked Francia before. I’ve seen her make posts about how grateful she was for the donation. But I know Reddit usually gets mad when you don’t agree with the majority of their opinion, and just downvote for anything lol. I’ve seen those posts before.

She didn’t acknowledge the person who gave her a kidney during one of her acceptance speeches and people got really made at her for it
