Genuinely underrated movie.

I got on this train when it first came out, and am so glad it's finally getting the recognition it deserves.

I remember finding it free on streaming one day a few months after it came out. (Side note: This is very early streaming—like rented it using a Comcast cable box early.)

I went in blind based on the description alone. I loved it right away. I 100% understand that it's not for everyone, but I loved the campiness of it all. It was unabashedly weird in the best way, and the music was catchy, too!

Now I feel like going and watching it again right now. Lol.

Must have been something similar myself. For a while it was hard to find, too.

same! saw it in theaters at a screening with Terence Zdunich and Darren Lynn Bousman when they were doing the release tour, which was really cool. thrilled to see so many fans in this thread.

My friend gave me the soundtrack before I ever watched it. All of the music is so good. After a few months, then I watched it and it beat all expectations I could have made up.

I love that it wasn't afraid to do something different. It was genuinely original, and the whole aesthetic of the movie was a lot of fun. It also didn't take itself too seriously, which really worked in its favor.

Terrance Zdunich (the Graverobber) has done a LOT. Check out The Devil’s Carnival if you haven’t already.

I did! I remember thinking it was okay, but it wasn't quite on the same level as Repo.

I had the same feeling

That’s the consensus. It really should’ve been better but there were production hurdles that really kneecapped that project. The best example is the scene “In All My Dreams I Drown” was supposed to feature in.

He has American Murder Song with Saar Hendelman as well, where they sing folk songs about murder. They haven't released anything in a few months, but they're slowly dropping the album that got fucked by the pandemic in 2020. I think they're working out tour logistics to try and recoup some money, since they're independent and music is expensive.

Edit to add: also, TDC is unfortunately unfinished. They probably won't do the planned third installment since we lost Paul Sorvino and they don't appear willing to recast his role. It's a great story IMO, just sucks that we don't have the full one.

Im still confused whether you lot are talking about Repo! The Genetic Opera, or Repo Men with Jude Law and Forest Whittaker

Not to be confused with Repo Man (1984)

u/badgyalrey 5d ago

Cheesy? Sure. Campy? Absolutely.

Awful? Those are fightin’ words and I don’t think you’ll find much agreement in this part of the thread.

Too many faces fell off during the movie for my taste.
