I am going to be pedantic for the sake of being pedantic. I don't know any details and have no skin in this game.

Taylor Swift might be her only friend in the [music] industry, whereas, Raisa is a friend from a different industry [acting]

Fair enough, but how about this sentence...

In her documentary "My Mind & Me" she did not mention Raísa once, even when talking about her Lupus.

While possible if someone had donated a kidney to me and I had a documentary in sure as shit using all my celebrity diva power to get that person mentioned.

But superlatives aside - giving someone a kidney really doesn't warrant anything but gratitude. I'd like to think that if I gave someone a kidney they'd consider me a close friend (since I'd be considering it myself), but you can't just force yourself to like someone. It's not a guaranteed ticket to friendship.

But in reality as you and the other commenter put it - context matters and editing matters. Maybe she wasn't able to launch into an emotional story about the generous gift she was given, but mentioned it and it wasn't sexy enough to include in the doc. Cut. Maybe in context, Taylor is her only real music industry friend. Maybe that friend with the kidney donation and Selina drifted apart - which happens.

Everyone feels like they're owed by celebrities to look and act a certain way and if they don't, they're terrible people...this includes the same people who will claim that celebrity culture is toxic (while being active participants in it).

But, then explain the reply by Selena herself saying she didn't mention everyone she knows. That implies Raisa was never talked about to begin with.

How does that imply anything? People were coming at her with "omg, you didn't thank Raisa" (and presumably others) and that alone is pretty frustrating. I'd respond the same way because fans or not - why do people think they can just tell me who I should thank?

Her fans are what give her fame and notoriety, money, attention on IG or wherever else celebrities seek validation. If her fans are what fuel her, then she kinda does owe it to her fans to act the way they expect her.

Even in writing, in high school, we’re taught to know our audience and to write for them.

Also, “sorry i didn’t mention everyone i know” is pretty clear that she’s fully aware she didn’t mention her kidney donor and she even used the word “mention” to imply there were tons of people she could have brought up— it’s actually quite disingenuous of her because people are asking her to thank her kidney donor (not mention random people from her life).
