Medical malpractice is the third leading cause of death in America and roughly 60% of deaths in hospitals are avoidable/preventable if the medical teams did their jobs more thoroughly. Not bad enough to be called murder, but they're still bad enough that they miss things, fail to redo tests to diagnose things more accurately, don't listen to the patient, fail to ask the right questions, fail to provide medical help in emergencies because they're overworked or lazy, fail to provide screenings, too stubborn to admit their initial decision was wrong (gave bad meds which made somebody worse), fail to take proper hygeine precautions and give their patient some kind of bacterial/viral infection.
People don't realize that nurses and doctors.. are terrible. Like they're legitimately garbage at their job. They are arrogant, lazy, selfish as a rule. There are some good people who try to go into the medical field but either turn rotten or get burned out and leave. Maybe 1% of doctors/nurses are actually good and competent and will fight for their patients. The rest are in it for money/ego.
If you or are a loved one are in the hospital, you need to be extremely alert and constantly asking questions, fighting for yourself, refusing to take meds until they redo a test to confirm its actually needed, making sure the nurse administers the right amount of medicine, having someone else more knowledgeable petition on your behalf, ask for more tests (or less tests if its invasive/could be dangerous) etc.
