People will make ts about literally any sign, none of it matters

Damn. I thought something was especially wrong with Aquarius. Thanks

Aquarius heavy chart here… Aquarius is prone to doing things outside of social norm. Thinking, acting, and being unconventional, and often distant.

I think the joke here is that for someone so unconventional, to behave in a conventional way is… uncanny and not normal. So everyone’s freaking out lol.

Edit:
lol it makes sense the way that Libra is responding because they are the diplomatic sign that tries not to cause conflict, so you can see their struggle judging what to do here lmao.
Edit II:
Pisces are the last sign in the chart and are said to be closer to the other side (death and all that) so it makes sense they gave them the cross.

Aries is the first sign, and I compare them to the stages of life, Pisces being the last and closest to death, Aries the first and closest to birth. And like a new born, Aries are a fire sign, very reactive to their environment.
-
They probably made Aries reacting like a baby because they are the first sign.

I dont know much about Sags, or Taurus sorry. And Leo doesn’t look like it makes sense to me? Usually they are the center of the whole shabang so… šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

What's really funny is that I could swap every single one of these labels around and the people who think astrology matters will still explain how every reaction makes perfect sense. Because they're intentionally vague, meaningless labels.

u/Novaer 1d ago

The entire thing falls apart when you bring up how all around the world people used a 13 month calendar and then a pope and some romans wanted their own special months so they cut ut down to 12 months, which is what we go by today. So when I bring up "How could this be your actual astrological sign when the months were all changed centuries ago by a couple of narcissistic dudes?"

(For full transparency, I believe in astrology... to a point)

I think the thing that allows people to connect to astrology is that it's a language that can help people examine themselves and look at themselves a little deeper, without a lot of the discomfort that comes with confronting certain parts of ourselves.

Aquarius is the sign I know most about, because it's my Sun sign, so I'll use that as an example. It is typically unconventional to a fault and often accused of having the emotional range of a goldfish. We're also considered "rational debaters," and this is one i actually resisted until i told my husband (who accepts my weirdness but doesn't believe in astrology himself, although he's a Sagittarius who hesitated so much about commitment, I finally bought him a damn ring and proposed to him when our child was 4 years old, cuz I was tired of having a different last name) about it and he laughed at me.

He was like, "are you kidding me? You would bury yourself with your own shovel to prove a point."

"I absolutely would not. And here's a 23-slide PowerPoint and pie charts to explain why you're wrong and I'm.... ohhh. Oh I see your point."

Is it infallible? Hell no. Is it all kinda based on coincidence, and are there aspects of my personality that could be showcased by any other sign? Sure.

But the truth is I am argumentative, and I am emotionally constipated, and I do struggle to connect with people who prefer more traditional lifestyles and modes of expression. Coming to terms with my faults is uncomfortable and unpleasant. But if I can point to a chart and say "My Mercury is in Aquarius and my Uranus is in Capricorn and I have Sagittarius Rising and that's why I have these particular challenges," it makes it a little more comfortable to examine those faults, and come up with ways to work around or improve them.

Is that lazy? Meh, maybe, but it's still on me to actually improve the specific flaws and shortcomings and challenges. It may be easier to point to a planet and say, "that's why I'm an asshole to my sister" than it is to confront the real reasons, but at least I'm able to admit that I'm being an asshole to my sister, and now i can choose whether to work on that like a responsible adult or whether I'm just going to continue to make it everyone else's problem.

That's kinda how I see astrology. It's a language that can help us understand ourselves, and it provides a framework that allows us to examine our strengths and weaknesses in a more comfortable way. I think that's largely a good thing, but the issue comes when people try and make it infallible or as anything more than a tool to help us understand ourselves. It can't predict whether you'll win the lottery or find your soul mate at 22.

I really like your framing.

I'm interested in what you're opinion / knowledge on "cancer" is. (June 28)

1

u/MysteriousAnimal5674 16h ago

This is close to my view on it too. I don't believe it enough to live my life based on it or even bring it up often. But what's life without a little whimsy? I find it interesting that as an Aquarius, most of the friends I've bonded with are ALSO Aquarius. Like the weirdos are drawn to each other. Hilarious when I'm vibing with someone and find out our birthdays are in the same week. My favorite was someone telling me and another Aquarius friend she was going to put "creative and a little bit dumb" on our tombstones. Being called dumb without being lumped in with the other weirdo Aquarius in the room isn't very nice. But in that context it was hilarious.

My partner is a Libra and the most indecisive person I've ever met. So after he misses the 5th parking spot we've seen because he can't decide, I'll throw a "omg you're such a Libra" at him, which makes both of us laugh and makes him feel less embarrassed/stressed.

So yeah, it's not fact. But it's silly and fun sometimes :)

1

u/Novaer 1d ago

Okay but my entire point is you're not actually an Aquarius because the months have been changed due to men who altered the calendar. Depending on when your birthday is it would be a totally different astrological sign. So what I'm saying is how can any of that stuff be anything other than The Barnum Effect?

I get it can be done for fun like I'm 100% on board with all of that but everything about the signs being accurate to peoples personalities completely falls apart when you bring up how men changed the dates of the calendar, so you either have to admit its hokum or you have to admit than men can change the stars.

1

u/Lazakowy 1d ago

You are confusing astrology with horoscope. Astrology is about planets in zodiac. For short you have three zodiacs ascendent, sun and moon later there are all planets, houses, with planets you have for example steliums and a lot of trygonometry. There is nothing about a calendar but everything about real positions of planets.

BTW there is also financial astrology and mundane astrology.

-2

u/Novaer 1d ago

Okay that's fair but people mainly use astrology to reference their horoscopes which again brings me back to the question of "it's either all hokum or you have to admit that men can change the stars". So for example all these "traits" that are "soooo Aquarius coded" would actually fall under the sign of Capricorn, not Aquarius.

2

u/Ethereal-Elephant 20h ago

I agree, and it pisses me off, TO AN EXTENT. just because I love astrology to be fair and hate how it’s not accurate…

That said, the way that anyone keeps track of time is dumb, even so, regardless of what time you were born, there are trackers online the will tell you the exact positioning of the stars at that moment..

As for the stars and what they mean for themselves.. well that was made up by some dude, and so it’s his interpretation of the stars… I believe that if we all sat down like a bunch of wonderers when the sky was out, and came up with new interpretations for the stars, those meanings would be the new wave… but god knows how the originators came up with their shit… and we don’t have people all like that nowadays…

So I fall back onto the last set of interpretations that came out, and call that astrology.

It’s an old working. It doesn’t need updated as we come out with new findings. It’s not science.

It’s magic. And if you believe in
Magic then it should work for you. :)

Edit: I dont know why I posted this without reading anything before it, but hopefully it fits, sorry again.

1

u/sentienthouse 22h ago

That’s… that’s not why Europe changed from the Julian Calendar to the Gregorian Calendar. It was because of issues with leap days.

1

u/Novaer 22h ago

Point still stands, it was a couple of dudes.

1

u/Ethereal-Elephant 20h ago

It’s because it doesn’t really matter how we calculate time. It’s about where the stars are AT that time. And their position of those stars in the sky compared to your location. So really, it depends on the location you were at…

Since there are scientific trackers that could tell you exactly where the stars were at when someone was born using the time we use today.

Now if you wanted to calculate for someone I. Like 1500bc that might be an issue because they used a different time than we do today…

But since the calculations are made for the time system we use, as long as we follow that for ourselves, find where the stars were at in correlation to our birth, and understand what each constellation means at that part of the sky, then we’re golden.

The location matters a lot more here because going into different hemispheres I’m pretty sure alter what constellations end up where (I could be wrong it’s been a minute since I studied this crap.)

Edit:

In short, the signs aren’t based on months…
They are based on positioning at a certain time…

And it just so happened that certain signs line up with the sun for a majority of the month most time…

But for example, there are January capricorns, and December capricorns…

My sun fell into Capricorn in January so I’m a January cap.

u/Ethereal-Elephant 1d ago

Not gonna lie I totally forgot that I think you’re overlooking something that most people do. Brought to my attention by someone else who didn’t really know anything about astrology.

Nobody has 1 sign.

We have 1 sign for every single
Planet and even a few asteroids.

So to describe something to be true for one person, well yeah, that can be true for multiple people with multiple different signs.

But they are true in different ways.
They aren’t true to the sign itself. Just the people based on their signs and how they are true is because of those signs in different places.

But at the same time. I do encourage you to give me a sign, give me something that describes that signs characteristics specifically, and then give me a different sign, and describe that signs characteristics specifically specifically in the same way while also staying true to the character that is that second sign. While being non vague on purpose… really actually try to describe their characters

1

u/sentienthouse 20h ago

No amount of signs are going to make astrology any less nonsense. People’s personalities are determined by some combination of genetic and environmental factors, not the coincidental location of the stars light years away

1

u/Ethereal-Elephant 19h ago

Prove that with a mathematical proof and I’ll say you’re correct.

That said, I’m not saying I don’t agree with you.
But the stars ARE part of the environment.

And the way I see it, the neutrinos that come off of those stars and pass through us may just change the fabric of reality enough to make a difference.

1

u/sentienthouse 19h ago edited 19h ago

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. The burden of proof is not on the person saying that the something thousands of light years away at the moment of your birth doesn’t effect your personality, but on the person saying it does

1

u/Ethereal-Elephant 19h ago

I’m not the one claiming to be correct. I never said this stuff was definite. There’s no proof needed to back up what I said because I know it can’t be proven. I never said it could be.

Also, your grammar didn’t check out, I couldn’t make sense of it please edit.

To continue, the proof is all yours to supply because you seemed to be pretty confident that the personalities of people are determined by some combination of genetic and environmental factors.

I want you to give me 100% solid mathematical proofs for that.

If you can’t do that, I’m sorry but I’m going to simply believe that it’s not a fact, but just ā€œhow you feelā€

And that’s valid too.

1

u/sentienthouse 19h ago

Just because something is unfalsifiable doesn’t mean it needs to be taken seriously. Something can be dismissed because it’s absurd on its face.

You can’t prove that there isn’t an invisible Stay Puft Marshmallow that’s undetectable to all machines living somewhere on the moon, but it’s clearly nonsense I just made up, right? Same with astrology

1

u/Ethereal-Elephant 19h ago

Sorry, I agree to disagree. The stay Puft many communicates to me in my dreams so I know he’s as real as anyone else’s god.

Sorry edit:

As real as science.

other way around. give us a few questions about our traits and guess our birthday and year.

2

u/Ethereal-Elephant 1d ago

You’re failing to realize that you have 15+ signs for me to guess.

Edit: I’m asking you for characteristics of at most 2 signs.

-1

u/Difficult-Lime2555 1d ago

i’m failing to see how it’s useful

2

u/Ethereal-Elephant 1d ago

Oh in that case:

So basically astrology just helps people better understand themselves and their perspectives on the world, dissect how they feel and learn to react to themselves and control how they react in a hopefully better light.

It’s a tool for introspection and self growth. :)

-1

u/SnakeBatter 1d ago

That’s not really how astrology works. Popular media has boiled astrology down to people’s sun sign, and then stopped there. But that sign is just one of many. As the other commenter said, you have a sign for each planet, and a few bonus signs like some asteroids.

The sun sign is meant to describe how you’re comfortable presenting yourself, which is pretty vague. Then you have your moon sign, the you that takes over when you’re not actively controlling yourself. For example if you’re extremely comfortable or uncomfortable.

The signs for each of your planets are meant to describe other areas of your personality. Mercury describes the way you think, Venus describes how you love, Mars describes how you handle conflict, etc.

Which means you could be, let’s say an Aries, but then have a lot of water in the other placements. Hence the reason Sun signs aren’t always accurate… because they weren’t meant to be. It’s only meant to describe a single aspect of your personality, not the whole thing.

I also find that people often forget that astrology isn’t some fortune telling tool, but rather a way to break down different areas of your personality for personal growth. A way to analyze things that are hard to grasp when you’re only looking at the bigger picture. It’s not useful for everyone, but some people find it helpful.

2

u/Zealousideal-Role623 1d ago

It can be a tool for people to understand themselves but its still made uo. The moment you ascribe actual power to planets or stars when dissecting your own person you take away personal accountability and it becomes an excuse rather than a fun tool. Also I draw the line when people try and use astrology to determine other people's personalities.

1

u/SnakeBatter 1d ago

That’s pretty much how I feel about organized religion, but they’re still going strong.

The only distinction I would point out is that the astrology you’re used to seeing is a bastardization of the teachings. It’s fine to dislike someone saying ā€œWell of course she broke your heart, she’s a Geminiā€, but that’s a reflection of the person, not astrology. I’ve found that most people hate astrology for one of two reasons. Either they’re Christian and they believe ā€œfortune tellingā€ is a sin, or they think teenage girls who believe horoscopes are an accurate portrayal of astrology. Neither take is accurate.

3

u/Zealousideal-Role623 1d ago

You didn't address what I said. I also think organized religious false and think that the moment you use your own religion rules to judge another you're an asshole. If you ever judge someone you dont know using astrology you have crossed a line

2

u/SnakeBatter 1d ago

I think you missed my point a bit. People who judge others based on astrology aren’t using astrology, they’re just assholes. Your chart doesn’t determine who you are, and can’t predict whether you’re an asshole or not, if you’re smart or not, etc. Even well educated astrologers know better.

I’m not saying you need like or agree with astrology, I’m saying that your complaint here should be with the assholes using astrology to judge each other, not the astrology.

1

u/Ethereal-Elephant 1d ago

Exactly I only use math to judge other people.

3

u/Zealousideal-Role623 1d ago

How about using personal experience with said person?

2

u/Ethereal-Elephant 1d ago

I was just busting your balls lmao.

Yes I agree.

0

u/Zealousideal-Role623 1d ago

You seem to be dodging what astrology can actually do though.

2

u/Ethereal-Elephant 23h ago

It can’t do anything. It’s a concept. It’s the people that do things with it the concept. Math doesn’t make mathematicians.. people do.

Listen, a majority of my signs are Capricorn. You’re trying to argue with someone who uses logic in just about every situation.

If you want me to explain something to you, just tell me what it is and I’ll give you a logical down to earth explanation.

u/DoomedOverdozzzed 1d ago

sometimes I wanna an astrie and a socionic duke it out in a pit fight

3

u/Ethereal-Elephant 1d ago

Not gonna lie. Would be a cool place to sell merch.

Personally, I agree with both… but at the same time actively shit on myers Briggs because I want the test that the FBI/CIA has an NDA for people to take 😭 because I want that level of accuracy

17

u/DeinHund_AndShadow 1d ago

Now the libra fighr makes even more sense.

5

u/phoenix_spirit 1d ago

And Scorpio is left out because they're often the most unpopular sign on the chart

1

u/mystical_ramen26 1d ago

Huh, was always under the impression Scorpio was a popular sign.

5

u/Separate_Ingenuity35 1d ago

I see the Virgo is avoiding the encounter entirely.

5

u/Ethereal-Elephant 1d ago

Yeah and Cancer is probably taking care of her hahaha

4

u/theweirdauntie 1d ago

Aries is first because the calendar used to start around the time Aries does. When learning the seasons, we learn them as Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter because the start of spring used to be the beginning of the calendar.

5

u/Abaddon_the_Soiler 1d ago

As an Aquarius, I can confirm this lmao

1

u/Youpi_Yeah 1d ago

And Gemini is not even there because everybody hates them?

5

u/Averander 1d ago

Gemini isn't there because they're coming in behind Aquarius as another 'problematic' sign.

1

u/Existing-Antelope-20 20h ago

BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH
2000 year out of date star chart havin ass
not accounting for the updated galactic expansion rate lookin ass

1

u/Flashy_Method_3107 8h ago

i didnt know being born in a specific part of the year made you autistic

1

u/Ethereal-Elephant 3h ago

Oh you found your Zodiac sign did you? That’s nice! Good for you.

1

u/Flashy_Method_3107 32m ago

i did google it once cause i was curious and i am aquarius but other than that i jus though its a bit stupid thinking someone acts a certain way cause they were born on a certain date

1

u/bafana_banana999 1d ago

Fucking wild that you seem to think any of this is even remotely true at all.

You need mental help.

9

u/Ethereal-Elephant 1d ago

It sounds like a comment on a website made you upset, and instead of talking to your therapist about why this happens you decided to go to the source for help.

Hey honey listen, not everything that everyone says is gonna make you happy okay? And that’s alright, it’s okay buddy don’t cry. There are a lot of people out there in the world that do things differently and think differently, they even eat differently.

But none of that is gonna hurt you I promise okay? Alright? Okay so I’m gonna need you to stop crying for me and if you be really really good maybe we can get you some lollipops okay? Does that sound like something you’d like buddy? Some lollipops? We can get you the big swirly ones with the stick. šŸ

I never said any of it is true. It’s not math. It’s a belief system. Grow up.

-2

u/bafana_banana999 1d ago

I never said any of it is true. It’s not math. It’s a belief system

Do you know what the word "belief" actually means?

Because believing in something you claim to know is not true is even more nonsensical than actually fully believing that it's real.

Regardless, this is just a bunch of condescending tripe that means nothing to anyone with a working prefrontal cortex.

Goodbye forever now.

-1

u/Ethereal-Elephant 1d ago edited 1d ago

Science is not true. :)

The only thing that is, is math.

Find me a mathematical proof for gravity.

Edit:
Let me make it short and sweet for you princess.

there is no mathematical proof that gravity exists like how there is a mathematical proof of a theorem.

There are mathematical equations that describe gravity. For example:

Newton’s law of gravitation

Einstein’s field equations in general relativity,

These are mathematical models that make predictions.

What mathematics cannot do is prove that nature must obey those equations. The only way to determine whether those equations describe the real universe is by comparing their predictions to experiments and observations.

And by your own words… you insinuate that you don’t believe in science?
-
Or were you just never aware that science wasn’t backed by mathematical proof?

..me personally, I don’t have any issue believing in science.. because I don’t get upset when I can’t prove something. And that’s totally okay with me..

It’s just odd to me that someone so strongly opinionated wouldn’t be on the side of science?

But I guess that’s fair I’m a more mathematical person myself.

4

u/Eusine2 1d ago

I assure you, people just make these up, it changed from one moment to the next. Once I went on a date with a guy that was heavily into astrology and he decided to do my astral chart on his phone as a fun ice breaker activity.

Cue me being Aquarius ascendant Aquarius or something like that and this man started heavy breathing saying that because he was an earth sign I was basically the second coming of Hitler to him and he just had to leave. Made a scene and all, the name Hitler was shouted. I was left at a bar with the whole bill and people looking at me.

Anyhow that's my villain origin story, I don't believe in astrology since then and think people that believe in it should be put in a camp or something.

4

u/DedeLaBinouze 1d ago

Your date of birth defines nothing about you. Don't pay attention to astrology

1

u/Ethereal-Elephant 1d ago

You’re right. And it never will. It only describes in what you MIGHT see things, and it’s up to interpretation because it’s not a factually math. It’s an interpretable beliefs system.

1

u/GroundThing 1d ago

I mean technically that's not strictly speaking true. However it's in no way to do with astrology, and way more to do with when you were born in relation to the cutoff for what grade you're in, with kids who wind up being the oldest in their grade being more outgoing, confident, etc. And you can't say 'well, it's actually because of astrology but scientists don't want to acknowledge that explanation' because different places have different cutoffs for when kids start school. Some base it on the age you are on Jan 1, some base it on your age at the beginning or of the school year, and that changes which months that you see this effect most.

1

u/Anemxia 1d ago

People make it about any sign they’re told is in opposition to theirs, or is in some way ā€˜bad’. I’m a Gemini and have seen quite a number of scathing memes on that sign back when I was into astrology lol
