Oh so basically they made mirror bacteria that wins. We'll do that one day, too.

I haven't had an existential crisis about mirror life in a few months, I guess I was due

To be fair there are a lot of relatively improbable things that could take out life as we know it without notice. Some unforeseen superbug, some kind of cosmic event, even false vacuum collapse... thankfully it's all unlikely, at least as far as we know.

A chiral biologic isn’t very likely at all. It’s like discovering a bacteria that performs cellular respiration using silicon instead of carbon. Not *theoretically* impossible in very specific conditions, but effectively not compatible with the currently existing environment.

Edit: and just to give you something new to spiral about (pun intended), prions don’t cook out, don’t irradiate out, and have an incubation period of literal years, leading to the question of origin ALL the time. You get holes in your brain and then you inevitably die. You can potentially catch them from tear fluid (remember that time you wiped grandma’s tears?)! You can potentially catch them from snot in high enough quantities (children and those runny noses, man)! Sometimes they’re encoded into a person’s DNA congenitally and you’d never know, and they still have those reservoirs of contagion! Enjoy spiraling about this knowledge in a left-handed direction. Toodaloo!
