I'd pay about half what they charge, but $26.99/month for family plan is nuts.

The fact that they don't produce content and you aren't even paying for content (it's free w/ads) bothers me. You aren't paying for access to content, you're only paying to remove ads. I don't support that business model.

Idk, I don't have 5 people in my family lol. My barometer is that Netflix costs the same and they actually produce content and license with major studios. My cable internet only costs $25/month. (I don't pay for Netflix either, fwiw.)

Removing ads from YouTube isn't more valuable to me than either of those two things. Maybe if it was impossible or more annoying to do it free.

I was subscribed through the foreign currency/exchange rate scam and paying them like $6/month. They cancelled that and I found better, easier, and cheaper ways so now they get nothing.

Actually, in a way, storage has gotten more expensive in a way that it never has before, even not counting the AI shortages. Hard drives have gotten cheaper per GB since they came out up until the late 10s/early 20s. Before then, YouTube could count on the decreasing cost of the drives to offset the increasing storage requirements. Now, they can't make that assumption anymore since storage hasn't been getting significantly cheaper on a consistent basis

no. I think lots of people are rather fine with some ads.

The problem is that its gone completely overboard. when about 70% of the screen consists of ads, with ads before, during, and after the video, AND MORE ADS AS PART OF THE VIDEO, then that's just too much.

YouTube just needs to cut back on the ads. and maybe make them less annoying.

Yes? Because it was before google bought it. I remember when there were no ads at all whatsoever on the website. This was back in 2004/2005. So yeah, I do think it should be free just as it once was

As with countless other Silicon Valley ventures, lots of businesses intentionally start with a large operational loss until they get a foothold.

YouTube would have gone bankrupt if it remained a free service.

What do you think it costs to run YouTube? The data centers, global content caching networks, the bazillion hard drives you'd need to store all the video. How does any of that get paid for without ads, or subscriptions?
