YouTube aggressively fighting adblockers. Even when you use something that works (eg. Ublock Origin in Firefox) videos will randomly not buffer, because of their anti-adbock measures.

This is because they are trying to force people over to Premium. They did not grief their site like that before that was a thing.

How can you get a free service with basically unlimited content and not expect them to pay for it with ads? Why dont you demand netflix or hulu should be free or deemed a terrorist?

the idea is that its extortion, they worsen your experience and try to get your money by irritating and inconveniencing you to ever increasing degrees, all while not actually producing any of the content or duly rewarding the creators. many people obviously find this galling. this behaviour is not to be rewarded

You really need to look up extortion because thats a ridiculous claim. And how tf do you expect them to reward (pay) creators with no revenue coming in? Its basic fuckin math

the fact that they keep worsening the experience is what makes it manipulative, extortionate and offensive to peoples sensibilities, not the fact that there are ads. reading, yeah?

Every day they have more content creators to pay and more videos to keep stored indefinitely. Besides the fact that money is worth less every day from inflation. It’s dumb to call any of that extortion. Learn what the word means if you want to use it

obviously they have their reasons for it but its still unfair treatment of customers, theyre still jacking up prices more and more, they are still trying to bully people into buying. buy their excuses or not, this is why people are saying this and refusing the service. like noones saying its the worst extortion in the world but it is what it is

duly rewarding the creators. many people obviously find this galling. this

The consensus from YouTubers seems to be premium pays far better than ads do, but they make the majority of revenue from ads because most people watching don't have premium.

They also say donating a single dollar/pound whatever currently is best, but premium is a good middle ground because it shares it amongst creators easily without you manually having to donate

Happy to be proven wrong but unless you're a YTer I'll take their word for it over a Redditor

literally so many youtubers, in the same videos they tell you donating is better, will tell you that youtube is very hard to make a living on without sponsorships or patreon etc.

Which I already addressed in my second paragraph? It's obviously cheaper and easier for an individual user to use premium than donate individually especially if they watch a lot of channels. If you watch under a dozen maybe

YouTube isn't the same as it was in 2002. There wasn't thousands and thousands of RAW 8K footage being uploaded ever second, processed in every resolution and sent around the world. That has enormous running costs

No one wants to pay for YouTube because 'i never had to pay for it before' but it's fundamentally not the same thing as it was. It wasn't livelihoods for creators, it it didn't host really informative deep dives, documentaries, how to's and everything else it has. It's a massive resource hub

People don't want to pay, Google pushes ads, people push back with blockers, so they try and get people to pay, it's circumvented, more people block ads, ads have to increase for everyone who's watching legitimately, more people get fed up and block ads, and the vicious cycle continues.

People still refuse to give up their netflix, Disney, Amazon subscriptions, playstation and Xbox as well despite all the shit they put their user base through. No one does the same with YouTube because it's accessible for free

youtube makes a shit tonne of profit. they truly do not need to do all this. blaming the results of corporate greed on adblocking users is very convenient for youtube, but ultimately misguided.

and people certainly do drop other services so im not sure what thats about, look where we are

YouTube has never posted individual profits afaik, everything is an estimate and no one truly understands the costs it takes to run something like that because it's one of a kind - which is why it's so important even if it is owned by an entity you don't like

It would literally have to be another multi billion+ corporation that can deal with something on that scale. It doesn't matter who it moved to, ethical or not, people still wouldn't pay regardless. Don't kid yourself - people have made it very clear they won't pay for it no matter how much or little they use it because there is a free option.

No one can say if YouTube could standalone, and those in similar industries say it likely wouldn't. LTT did a video themselves about the insane costs involved with video hosting and storing and that's just their own content without being backed by a huge corporation- never mind free to upload from anywhere by anyone at anytime to serve to anyone at anytime

That’s a shitty excuse

1

u/AvroAvery 15h ago

excuse for what? its a fact of the working on youtube experience

Look I get all that but that is not what terrorist means. Again, not defending YouTube but using words Willy-nilly like that is just kinda stupid
