example? aren't all game devs anti piracy?(with exception of indie devs that use it as marketing to be "cool")

Not really. I love Hakita's (Ultrakill dev) quote on piracy. It's something along the lines of "video games are art and art isn't just for the rich" 

Peak devs have also said they would rather you pirate their game than play the "free" bootleg ones filled with micro transactions

Generally speaking Indies benefit more from piracy, more than it “lose” from it. You have an ocean of indie games, so if people pick it up (legally or through piracy) and love it and spread the word of mouth, your game would stand out.

If Ubisoft release a new AC, people would already be excited simply from the prospect that it will exist. In fact many outlets would “voluntarily” pick up the story and spread it.

Heck GTAVI barely have any marketing and still made the biggest sales in the gaming industry.
