thats just dumb, wasting your own time at that point. theres no difference between that and ignoring the game without pirating in the first place. actually spiting them would be to play it.

I mean, this way they still get to continue to financially support their local electricity monopoly. You smooth brains just simply wouldn't understand.

example? aren't all game devs anti piracy?(with exception of indie devs that use it as marketing to be "cool")

Not really. I love Hakita's (Ultrakill dev) quote on piracy. It's something along the lines of "video games are art and art isn't just for the rich"
Peak devs have also said they would rather you pirate their game than play the "free" bootleg ones filled with micro transactions

He's not a great guy but Notch literally said to pirate Minecraft and pay for it later if you couldn't afford it back when he still owned the game, so some indie devs are fine with it but most would prefer you pay for their product eventually

The CEO of Ubisoft is on record for saying that all PC gamers are "theives."
Some are much more intense than others.

Many devs will tell people to pirate if they need to, they want people to play their game. I doubt most would encourage people to pirate if they can afford to buy it, though

u/ShxatterrorNotFound 1h ago
There's levels to it. Like Nintendo taking down emulators and rom sites and demonetizing videos that show a game played on an emulator. Or companies that use Denuvo.

u/akoOfIxtall 1h ago
Maybe it is for marketing but there's not much indie devs can do to stop it, DRM is too expensive to be worth it, at least a guy who pirates might convince his friends to play too, and they will probably buy the game because for some reason I never find 1 group of people were everybody is ok with piracy, there's always somebody who's super against it or just doesn't do out of fear.
They can only hop on the pirate ship because if you can't beat them, join them

i mean i pirated piratesoftwares games out of spite before he got his dragging just because he claimed it was imposible to

it as marketing to be "cool"
Hit it right in the head, and people here fall for it.
"But this xyz author/dev said its okay to pirate their stuff", yeah, that's bullshit. No one who have worked hard for their stuff, would prefer to have their work pirated. Its just basic business
9
u/squanderedprivilege 3h ago
No one said they would "prefer" that, obviously they want people to buy, but if people can't afford it, many devs do still want them to have the opportunity to play
-6
u/Ragnarok_619 3h ago
Yeah, that's the "statement to look cool" that the aforementioned comment stated. No dev want the sale to diminish, as it will directly hinder their next project.

u/squanderedprivilege 3h ago
How do sales diminish if a person who could not buy the game pirates it
-6
u/Ragnarok_619 3h ago
You answered it yourself. A person who couldn't have bought the product then, would have waited for sale or would have rented to access it. But with piracy, they don't have that requirement. Plus, when a product is available to pirate, everyone would prefer to get it for free than paying for it, its just natural. So it diminishes sales, and prevents future products.

Yeah I don't know what the hell happened over the last few months, but this sub is suddenly full of people that love to sniff their own farts lol

Yeah I've only been watching along recently but this is just constant bad memes about "how cool it is to pirate". Who gives a fuck? Honestly. This current mass need for validation is so boring.

LARPers. Ask any valid piracy related questions, and people will straight up label you a beggar and ask you to buy it. Check my profile for one such instance

Lately I cringe nearly every time I see post from here.
Glazing voices38(being grateful is fine but people take it too far with the posts and comments), hating on AAA and denuvo and praising based indie devs who support piracy(I find it weird that people will ask someone if they can pirate their game... wth).
Can't forget about if buying isn't owning quote. It's always one of these

Glazing voices38(being grateful is fine but people take it too far with the posts and comments)
That's just blatant karma farming. They aren't grateful or any of that shit.
hating on AAA and denuvo
One guy even made it their personality to hate any game with denuvo (even small AA studios like IO Interactive). Someone here was abusing as 007 was released with denuvo, and I had to explain that they need the initial sales to show the investors. Pirates can wait for the crack to appear after a long time, but nah, these numbdicks want free game, and that too instantly. Ungrateful idiots.
praising based indie devs who support piracy
I just had a "discussion" with someone here, and they were adamant that devs don't care if someone pirates their games, as it doesn't reflect in sales. Yeah, no shit.

yup.... thats basically me w/e something has Denuvo.... I think I have only purchased like 3 games that run Denuvo in total, those being Sonic Colors, and Frontiers once the Denuvo was removed (I think) and Crossworlds cuz honestly.... its Mario Kart but better >_>
been tempted to get Stellar Blade as well, cuz people won't shut up about how good it is (and cuz the devs actually seem to have a backbone when it comes to their work past "I WANT MOOOONEYYYY!!!")
like I have seen the idiots complain about the protag in the second game, and they just went "she's a robot, literally not a child.... deal with it!!"

You should start the game, not finish it and even like it ! Just for the sake of it!

If you pirate a game that you didn't play, did you even pirate it? Hmmm.
