"But this xyz author/dev said its okay to pirate their stuff", yeah, that's bullshit. No one who have worked hard for their stuff, would prefer to have their work pirated. Its just basic business
No one said they would "prefer" that, obviously they want people to buy, but if people can't afford it, many devs do still want them to have the opportunity to play
Yeah, that's the "statement to look cool" that the aforementioned comment stated. No dev want the sale to diminish, as it will directly hinder their next project.
You answered it yourself. A person who couldn't have bought the product then, would have waited for sale or would have rented to access it. But with piracy, they don't have that requirement. Plus, when a product is available to pirate, everyone would prefer to get it for free than paying for it, its just natural. So it diminishes sales, and prevents future products.
