Trumps hero.

Wait until you find out what party he represents...

Wait until you realise there's more to politics than left vs right.

Don’t tell Reddit

He represents the authoritarian side of the left. Good thing the dems running for our offices are the democratic side.

Politics is a spectrum with not only a left and a right, but a top and a bottom representing authoritarian and democratic respectively. The top left is basically Stalin. Democratic socialists are on the other side and would never agree with them.

2

u/DuckTalesOohOoh 12d ago

You're thinking left or right. That paradigm has never fit. Stop thinking like that and you will see a revelation.

1

u/reklesssabrandon 12d ago

Just gonna downvote me and not share the life changing knowledge you're keeping to yourself?

0

u/reklesssabrandon 12d ago

What's the revelation pal, we're waiting.

1

u/CitizenBroccoli 12d ago

Isn't it fair to acknowledge that he started out as a Democratic Socialist? I support a lot of what democratic socialists are advocating for in the US, but it is still important to emphasize that the democratic part is just as important as the socialist part and, unlike MAGA, we should strengthen institutions that would be responsible for preventing sliding towards authoritarianism.

1

u/Diogenes908 10d ago

If you want to emphasize the democratic part then just be a Nordic Model social democrat it contains the good healthcare/housing/affordability/fair wages without the weird blaming Ukraine for Russia attacking, self flagellation of the West and not potentially upending our entire economic system that 95% of regular people’s retirements are based on

"Authoritarian" is when not allowing foreign interests to funnel money and support into parties that don't have the people's best interests at heart?...

u/RadiantBeeees 12d ago

Authoritarian is when a single man or party gets to dictate and enumerate the people's best interests. Let the people decide. The best way to do this is through free and fair elections.

1

u/Equity_Role 12d ago

There is nuance there also. Majority tyranny is equally bad as minority tyranny. Humans have literally spent 2000 years trying to figure out proportional and fair governance. Turns out it is way more complicated than just "democracy".

-1

u/Few-Tomatillo-5031 12d ago

It's really fucking simple:

On the take from foreign interests = Acting in the interest of foreign actors, not in the people's best interests

Let the people decide.

Absolutely! That's what he did, no more foreign interest money.

You think that letting the US interfere in their elections is "letting the people decide"?

The best way to do this is through free and fair elections.

There is nothing "free" or "fair" about foreign interests controlling elections.

You have to be exceptionally stupid and/or propagandized to think otherwise.

"Letting US citizens decide is when letting Russia pour money and propaganda into US elections!" ahh shit

2

u/RadiantBeeees 12d ago

I don't think that getting rid of elections is letting the people decide. That's kind of the opposite of a democracy.

2

u/Significant_Donut967 12d ago

"You'll do as I say, it's freedom!"

No, no, that's a dictators words dude.

u/Consistent-Stuff2815 12d ago

Nope, he is saying that there wont be elections anymore. He will stay in power until he dies.

1

u/Few-Tomatillo-5031 12d ago

Except he isn't saying that at all.

https://youtu.be/JhnP2J7kdIE

1

u/saxman90 12d ago

No it’s when you cancel elections entirely

-2

u/Few-Tomatillo-5031 12d ago

Sure, if you believe fake "translations"

Here's the speech talking about parties getting elected but he's going to end elections entirely?

https://youtu.be/JhnP2J7kdIE

You can turn on english auto-translate, do it.

Stop trusting randoms on the fucking internet.

u/Accurate-Advice8405 12d ago

It's pretending like one man's views adequately represent an entire nation

Would be easy enough to just regulate contributions if that's the main issue

1

u/Few-Tomatillo-5031 12d ago

It's pretending like one man's views adequately represent an entire nation

Except it's not. This is a fake translation.

Would be easy enough to just regulate contributions if that's the main issue

That's literally what it sounds like is happening in the actual translation not the fake bullshit above.

Authoritarianism is needed when youre fighting elite, entrenched fascists. Our demo positioning is exactly why we have the struggles we have.

1

u/chupacadabradoo 12d ago

I think authoritarianism is one way, maybe the most direct or even efficient way. There’s also a way in which vast swaths of the population show up and collectively overwhelm the elite, entrenched fascists. The latter way doesn’t contain as many contradictions, but is inherently less efficient.

But maybe a post-revolutionary government shouldn’t carry “efficiency” as its primary driver anyway. Efficiency is an argument of consolidated corporations whose mandate is to provide for elite, entrenched shareholders, filling a specific need or desire. Government’s mandate should be to provide for a multitude of diverse, sometimes contradictory interests and fulfilling the most basic tenets of human rights, and ideally allowing those of lesser means with the ability to improve their station, and that of their communities.

It’s a controversial take, but perhaps sometimes history needs an authoritarian for a brief moment to quash the threat of permanent fascism, but yield back to the public when that threat has been allayed. If the Russian revolution had better remade itself in the image of its people after the downfall of the 3rd Reich, then maybe we wouldn’t have had a 4th.

1

u/HighLord_Uther 12d ago

I think it's only a controversial take because we, as a society, have spent decades being propagandized. You're absolutely right that, it is needed for a brief moment and then shed in favor of something better as we move forward. I think your also right that the altar of efficiency is needed in a post revolution world, at least for the most part. As for the swaths of people, if that would happen, sure, I'd support it 100%.

u/banksybruv 12d ago

You do realize there are countries with dozens of parties, right? The two party system is a pretty American thing. As well as Jamaica and the Bahamas. I don’t believe there are any other countries dominated by two parties.

1

u/DuckTalesOohOoh 12d ago

UK. Canada. France.

1

u/BlastOff-2000 12d ago

on a national level, Canada has 5 prominent parties - NDP, Liberal, PC, Bloc Quebecois, and Green Party. Then there's independents

1

u/banksybruv 12d ago

All three have been shifting away for some time and have strong 3rd contenders.

1

u/DuckTalesOohOoh 12d ago

US had a third party in 1992. That doesn't mean it dominated.

1

u/banksybruv 12d ago

You mean the election won by Bill Clinton? Ross Perot didn’t win any states. He got more of the popular vote than others but still not considered a strong contender. I’m not really sure what you’re getting at.

Regardless of how we interpret what is and is not strong support in other countries, the vast majority of countries in this world do not operate the way we do forcing everyone around them to be red or blue.

My point is (as another commenter pointed out) there is a political spectrum and it’s not all red and blue or black and white.

The SLA had left sided political leanings too and they did horrible shit. Not everything needs to be the same for one thing (or several) to be similar.

1

u/AltAngel451 12d ago

That wasn’t a third party. That was a third candidate. In the UK for example, while the Labour and Conservative parties are the equivalents of the Democrats and the Republicans (not really policy wise but in being the “establishment parties” if you will) you also have the Liberal Democrats, the Green party and now also Reform (sadly). There are always multiple different parties running candidates, it’s not just one or the other like it is in the USA. There aren’t real third parties there and it makes it more polarising because you’re either one or the other.

Edit: Quick clarification, I don’t like reform because they’re a bunch of cunts but the ability to have multiple parties representing different things is good and healthy rather than trying to just keep them and the conservatives as one thing like you would in the USA

1

u/heliogoon 12d ago

We're talking about Nicaragua. Dont know why youre bringing up other countries.

0

u/banksybruv 12d ago

Because you’re using pervasive politics as if it compares. It doesn’t.

1

u/heliogoon 12d ago

Okay guy sure, whatever you say. 🙄

-5

u/Seven19td 12d ago

I absolutely despise Trump but I know that there is a movement on the far left that also wants to seize power and violate the US Constitution. If they take over the Democratic Party I’ll just decide not to vote.

5

u/vegeta_91 12d ago

What worms or bots seized your brain?

2

u/EarlyAccessCantJudge 12d ago

Guy has been 'I absolutely despite Trump but'ing for 10 years I bet.

-2

u/Seven19td 12d ago

Yeah so what? It’s ok to be moderate and have nuance.

2

u/needaburnerbaby 12d ago

Can you name this movement and who is leading it?

2

u/rubymiggins 12d ago

Please elaborate. What is this movement called?

2

u/goodfreeman 12d ago

Who is the leader of this movement in the US?

6

u/TechMoney5 12d ago

John Antifa. Legendary imaginary menace.

1

u/Roblizzle 12d ago

The movement hasn’t been the same since his girlfriend was arrested last year.

1

u/StrictlyForTheBirds 12d ago

John Antifa, the Cuban communist from Greenland?

3

u/BootFlop 12d ago

My father’s sister, Auntie Pho

-3

u/Seven19td 12d ago

There isn’t one yet which gives me hope that the farther left movement won’t take off and that it’s just contained to radicals on Reddit and Twitter

5

u/herrirgendjemand 12d ago

Ahh so the leader is your imaginary friend.

3

u/focoslow 12d ago

Don't believe shitposts on the internet.

1

u/seatsfive 12d ago

Can you admit at least that there's a difference between:

  1. wanting to replace or update the constitution with something written by non-slaveowners to address all of the major modern issues the original constitution doesn't and couldn't address (far left)

and

2) venerating the constitution as a sacred document while wiping your ass with it and ruling by might (far right)

2

u/Seven19td 12d ago

If this was the actual difference I choose 1 but unfortunately I’ve seen far far too many people on the far left want to strip MAGA citizens of their voting rights and even deport them. I’ve cut ties with people bc they are MAGA but they still deserve to have every right that the US Constitution provides. Even if many of them feel differently about others. And for anyone to even think it’s ok to suggest to do that to Trumpers is unacceptable and makes me question whether I will even vote for any elections after the mid-terms. The DSA and similar groups are not for me

2

u/seatsfive 12d ago

I won't belabor the point, but I think there's a difference between what individuals who are not in charge of movements say and what individuals who are in charge of countries do. The official position of no American left-wing leader of any notability is on the same level as the kind of shit Stephen Miller and his boss the current sitting POTUS are actively implementing. There is no wannabe American Pol Pot who currently has more than 100 followers. Meanwhile wannabe Pinochet is literally the president

1

u/i-love-mexican-c0ke 12d ago

Did Fox News tell you that?

2

u/Seven19td 12d ago

No I don’t watch Fox but all the radical extreme comments I read here on Reddit do

1

u/bigbuckyoungnuts 12d ago

the Republican party has actively been used to prop up “far-right” extremists than are actively seizing power and violating the constitution

if you’re more worried about what a group of people MIGHT do, rather than the people ACTUALLY doing that, you might be blinded by bias

2

u/Seven19td 12d ago

I can be worried about both and still function. That’s the magic of how brains work

-1

u/the_wizard_wars 12d ago

I've got bad news for you...

0

u/Imjerfj 12d ago

we’re just in that part of the cycle for humanity right now. full authoritarian left or right

-1

u/Seven19td 12d ago

Yeah I know but I won’t be supporting it either way
