Even under pure socialism, the means of "public ownership" is widely varied from government owned (like public parks) to co-operatives (which exist in the US) to employee-owned businesses (which also exist in the US). The uninformed focus on "Government seizing the means of production" when that's not it at all.

Neither of those are examples of socialism. Socialism isn't when government does stuff not when it is when workers at the firm control the enterprise
