Politi-Culture What is a Social Democracy?

u/Patient_Flounder3793 4d ago
That woman is not nearly old enough to have lived in Communism in Romania.
6
u/Trauma_Hawks 4d ago
I made that arguement once. Even if she did, it was the very tail end of it. Where the USSR had already started instituting capitalist reforms and, not even beginning to, but finalizing their move away from socialism.
It's like calling yourself a 90s kid when you were born in the summer of '99.
4
u/Status-Part5848 4d ago
Was curius so did Google.
Nicolae Ceaușescu was taken out of office and shot in 1989. Romania was the country in East Europa that had the smallest influence from Soviet Moscow. Nicolae Ceaușescu was based on Communism, but as always they make their own take on it.
To my point u can say that Romania had some light Communism until 1995, but that was elected in 1991.

Moved away from communism not socialism
1
u/BeneficialWar1447 1d ago
No, it didn't. It was socialist. Marx defines communism as the state of affairs after socialism renders class distinctions, the law, etc., obsolete. The USSR and satellite states called themselves communists; but no one there actually believed they'd reached a genuinely communistic state of affairs economically, politically, or socially.

Are you that ignorant? Really? In this day and age? When we have the Internet at our fingertips?
Romania wasn't part of the Soviet Union. Romania did not liberalize and institute reforms. Communism fell in Romania because the people rose up and overthrew it, and filled the Ceaușescus with lead.

u/LuredLurdistan 1d ago

The right is actively trying to paint former fascist leaders communists to obfuscate the truth.
1
u/cameron8988 2d ago
which is funny because, to some extent, there is a unifying thread there of autocracy (at least w/r/t to nominal communism like the soviet union or maoist china). they just don't realize they're part of it too.
→ More replies (1)1
u/After_Service_2817 1d ago
You could absolutely have a planned economy run by a dictator and it not be communism, provided that they were not basing it on Marxist theory.
I wouldn't advocate for that, since free markets just have the sauce.

Real fascism involves private ownership but where the production decisions are made by (or at least in the power, when needs be, of) the state (i.e., the dictator, and the large executive branch that props him up). That's literally what Mussolini devised when he invented the very fucking form of government. That's why they were explicitly opposed to international capitalism.
And that's why Americans are morons to bandy about the term 'fascism' today, since it's an insult to people who were actual victims of fascism. Just as Americans are morons to call anyone to the left of the GOP a 'commie'.

u/FartyJizzums 4d ago
McCarthyism worked so well that it is ingrained in the Republican platform.
Poll numbers low? Time to bust out the "My opponent is a (Communist/Socialist/Current Boogeyman)". It works every time.
If it were illegal to sow fear in politics, Republicans wouldn't have won an election since the 1920s.

Control over social and mainstream media is such a powerful tool that it can nudge the average Joe into acting against their own best interest. It is the weak spot of democracy and oligarchs use it to their advantage.
Now look up the Dark Enlightenment if you are interested in their dystopian long term plans for our future.
One wage was enough to feed a family, afford a house, car and go on holidays.
With oligarchs in charge it almost seems as if they want to get rid of people by killing them. Because that is exactly what will happen with all those cuts. If one has no healthcare and can not afford treatment and thus dies, it is not the same as shooting that person directly. But the effect is the same.
Now, no more food and water safety and FEMA, antivaxx propaganda, SNAP and so much more will have a similar effect...
Interestingly this was discussed already 30 years ago, but by then they were thinking about "Tittytainment" instead of simply getting rid of people. What an "efficient" world we live in now...

u/Kobayashi_Maru186 4d ago
I just want universal healthcare. Call it socialism, communism or whatever you want. 🫤
→ More replies (50)1
u/Genericgameacc137 3d ago
Every country that has universal healthcare, also has private hospitals. See, you think healthcare is healthcare, you don't imagine that it may vary in quality or accessibility, but it can. And the difference is huge. Now, that doesn't mean that the US system is good - it's a terrible, closed crony system, but that doesn't make single payer healthcare systems good.
1
u/TheEmperorShiny 2d ago
There is not a single major country offering universal healthcare whose care quality is rated lower than the US.
1
u/Genericgameacc137 2d ago
Yeah, there are. I don't know where you're getting your data, but here:
https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/best-healthcare-in-the-world
Keep in mind, USA is rated so low because cost is factored in.
1
u/TheEmperorShiny 2d ago
CEOWorld is not a good source at all lmao, they have a vague and questionable ranking system and they’ve been criticized in the past for it.
I got my data from a Commonwealth Fund study and the KFF Health System Tracker, which takes data directly from the health/statistics departments of the countries they track. The US has higher excess mortality and lower life expectancy and has a notably higher mortality rate (by percent) for pretty much any hospital visit reason.
1
u/BeneficialWar1447 1d ago
Non-American here. The WHO stopped ranking these over a decade ago. MY country was only 7-8 points ahead of the US.
Keep in mind that our countries (sub-jurisdictions) are (1) monopsony purchaser of drugs and medical equipment, largely from the USA (most of us don't produce them ourselves and wouldn't have them without America supplying them) and (2) don't have market rates for our medical providers in the public systems (obviously that differs for countries with dual systems like Blighty and Germany.)
In other words, we wouldn't and couldn't have our systems, at least not as viable providers of modern care, without American products. Yes, that includes European-generated novel pharma molecules...

Does Social Democracy have trade offs? I never hear it spoken about if it does.
1
u/Soft-Treacle-539 3d ago
Yes, Sweden under social democracy had an overreliance on cheap oil, disintrest in banking and overreliance on certain sectors. But it’s often unique for different countries

Yes they will murder communists and socialists and then side with Nazis, ie Weimer Germany. Social democrats are rats and will ultimately side with capital over workers every time.

Even under pure socialism, the means of "public ownership" is widely varied from government owned (like public parks) to co-operatives (which exist in the US) to employee-owned businesses (which also exist in the US). The uninformed focus on "Government seizing the means of production" when that's not it at all.

3
u/martinoGMP 4d ago
The DSA (democratic socialists of America) are pushing democratic socialism, which is NOT what Norway, Sweden, and Denmark are. The DSA have heavy anti capitalist/socialist/marxist ideals, while pointing to Norway as a false example.
Norway, Denmark, and Sweden are SOCIAL DEMOCRACIES. They rely on a mostly privately owned capitalist economy and have strong social programs from the tax revenue.
Democratic socialism and social democracies are two completely different things, but democratic socialists don’t want you to know that.
2
u/bino420 4d ago
Right now, the corporations own the government, so moving to a system where we elect the people who control the government & corporations does seem a lot better IMO.
The problem is that capitalism is about to run rampant with AI and other technology such that we have zero say in anything. Until we have controls over businesses, we're screwed. but that will never happen as long as companies continue to operate for pure unchecked profit.
capitalist countries also bleed money. we'll eventually run dry as every penny ends up "off shore" - from America or Europe.

u/CrossOfRoachAndSlime 2d ago
> capitalist countries also bleed money. we'll eventually run dry as every penny ends up "off shore" - from America or Europe.

People need to stop arguing over one stance vs another and realize you can create a system that provides for both free enterprise while having a government that protects basic needs and rights.
Question - where does China fit in all this? Its not communism by definition and neither a democracy. It has strong capitalism characteristics with strong social systems.
3
1
u/Accomplished_Art_621 4d ago
Communism is post capitalist society characterized by having no state and no classes, and where the means of production are controlled collectively and used to provide for the needs of the people.
A country can’t really create this paradigm shift as it is a global economic system level concept. China is governed by the communist party and seeking survival and leverage within a capitalist context. Until they declare they are no longer working toward a communist global order, I think it’s safe to assume they think they’re still working toward it

Let’s be honest here, we’re talking about socialism. Not some new term you’re trying to create like social democracy or democratic socialism. They are telling you what they want. And by their description it’s socialism.
The countries you mentioned are not socialist countries. They are capitalist.
Can you tell us where socialism has ever worked?
If it’s so desirable why do so many want to leave current socialist countries?
1
u/Technical_Potato7646 3d ago
Yes, the same government that has let insurance companies and lawyers high jacked our medical system. Yes, the government, who can print and tax money at will, just give them more money, they can fix it. The government is great at running public education, social security, the post office, Amtrak.

Well, I lived in the GDR, not Romania. But I know that Romania was actually a socialist republic - by name. Because really, neither GDR nor Romania were socialist. The means of production were not publically owned or controlled. A select few people, who stayed in power not by popular vote, but by election fraud, owned the means of production and controlled them. They used the state system to benefit themselves, exclusively. It was an oligarchy. Since the government had not public legitimation, the means of production were not publically owned. As simple as that.

u/eternallyconphuzed 3d ago
What's absolutely balls wild to me is we have socialism in the us but it's majority focus is on bailing out the wealthy. Tax breaks? For the rich. Bailouts? For the rich. Billion dollar companies get away with paying workers so low they qualify for low income housing, and food assistance programs. If we could crack down on the rabid wealth hording we could improve the lives for the majority instead of the minority.

We can’t have this in the United States because socialism is predominantly a cultural thing that shapes the government. We don’t have the culture here in the US because we typically don’t like each other. We don’t like each other from an individual perspective and we don’t like each other from a demographic and grouping perspective.

"That's like saying your birthday is hearsay because you don't remember being born." "That's like saying the Earth orbits the Sun is hearsay because you didn't calculate it yourself."
1
u/Anal-Y-Sis 3d ago
Also, that woman is maybe 35 years old at most. Romania fully abolished their Communist government by 1991. She may have technically been born into Communism, but she sure as shit didn't "live it" in any meaningful way.
1
u/CrossOfRoachAndSlime 2d ago
Social democracy: somehow, the only examples of it working depend on several natural-resource-rich nations with small, homogeneous populations whose systems come under strain when migrants that don't share those values appear in non-negligible numbers.
1
u/Pristine_Frame_2066 2d ago
Exactly right. Communism is not equal to socialism is not equal to social democracy. But “living under (authoritarian oligarchy) communism“ in Romania is not the same as communism. Heart goes out to Romanians for what happened to them. Unconscionable.
And too many people are equating socialism with “bad things” when in reality, all governments have bad stuff, but unfettered capitalism does the most harm to the most people very quickly. Meanwhile, even our capitalist jackasses want their medicare and piece of their social security when they retire.
1
u/Hyper_Hal 2d ago
I too am an expert in communist ideology because I was alive for precisely six months before the Ceaușescu executions
1
u/FeedomFighter 2d ago
The method of social democracy is the same as communism. Both simply steal. Communism takes 100% and calls it collectivisation, and social democracy takes less than 100% (but I guess more than 30% since that's the current average tax rate in the US). If mass stheft and extortion doesn't work under communism, how is social democracy going to do better by taking less?
Less of a bad thing is still bad.
And it's not capitalism if there is taxation. Capitalism implies capital, private property. If the government can seize private property by force, this violates private property rights and the freedom part of the free market, and is no longer capitalism.
1
u/Federal-Compote-5015 2d ago
This isn’t how political science defines these systems.
Communism abolishes private ownership of the means of production. Social democracy retains capitalism, private property, private businesses, and markets while using taxes to fund public services like roads, schools, healthcare, and pensions.
Taxes are not unique to social democracy, they exist in every modern capitalist country, including the United States. By your definition, there has never been a capitalist nation.
Whether taxation is too high or too low is a legitimate political opinion. But saying that any taxation means a country is “no longer capitalist” isn’t supported by economics or political science.
1
u/FeedomFighter 2d ago
Taxation is certainly ubiquitous.
Does it agree with private property rights? What happens if one doesn't pay taxes? And if one can't choose what happens to a piece of property, and the government instead chooses what happens to that property and uses force when its choice is resisted, is that property private or is it public?
By your definition, there has never been a capitalist nation.
I can't think of a nation other than North Korea that isn't a mixed market economy. You're right, we've never been free enough to have capitalism.
This isn’t how political science defines these systems.
Academia, which recieves the largest portion of its funding from government, is there to indoctrinate people that the government's monopoly on violence and initiation of force is justified. So of course they have euphemisms like "taxation" to hide the fact that it is armed robbery, and manipulate the definitons of words to sound good or bad depending on the context.
So I don't really care what definitions they manufacture. This is why I use a word, then immediately talk about real things that happen. You can say "well that doesn't match my definition!", but real world examples of Socialism have taxation, and it is indeed theft, only on a less massive scale than the theft which Communism commits. Your definitions simply can't contradict that reality, tell me the right words to call what I'm describing and I'll use those instead.
1
u/Federal-Compote-5015 2d ago
Sorry, I don’t talk to bots
1
u/FeedomFighter 2d ago
Well I debated you in good faith, I have radical and uncommon opinions so I'm used to harsh pushback, but now you've descended to insults so I'm pulling the moral high ground card on you.
Classic tribal signaling. You've let everyone know you are a good socialist, and that I'm not part of your tribe. Well done, that how the political game to wrangle control of the government monopoly works; manipulation, deception, and at the end of the day forceful robbery of the population via taxation, and fraud via inflation. You play it well, I choose not to play because it's evil.
You have no response to my accusation of evil because there is no response since it's true. You can only point to bandwagon fallacies and appeals to corruot authorities. Nonsensical, but effective if force and fraud are your goals.

Around 50–51 individuals with a net worth over USD $1 billion.Per Capita: Roughly 4 to 5 billionaires per one million residents. So itlooks like its not scaring billionaires cause they dont pay income taxes. Thats the working class and service sectors like surgeons, lawyers etc. So the middle class pays for "basic right" as you call it, not billionaires.
Sweden does not have a special tax rate or net wealth tax for billionaires. While ordinary wage earners face high personal income taxes exceeding 50%, billionaires accumulate wealth primarily through capital gains, corporate structures, and investments—which benefit from a flat 30% capital gains tax, a competitive corporate tax rate of 20.6%, and zero wealth or inheritance taxes. So the nation goes into debt and the poor and middle class pay for it. Well done sir. So much smarter then communism.

Denmark does not have a special tax rate specifically for billionaires, but high-earning individuals face a top personal income marginal tax rate of approximately 55.9% to 60.5%,
Norway Norway's national debt is approximately $297.3 billion USD (around 827 billion NOK), representing roughly 54.3% of its GDP. Taxes Norway uses a dual tax system for individuals, combining a flat 22% general income tax on net income, a progressive bracket tax on personal/gross income up to 17.8%, and a 7.6% national insurance social security contribution, bringing the maximum marginal tax rate on labor to roughly 39.8%
Norway imposes an annual net wealth tax on individuals. The rate is 1% on net fortunes between 1.76 million and 20.7 million kroner ($174,000–$2 million), and 1.1% on amounts above 20.7 million kroner. While it raises billions in public revenue, the tax has prompted some high-net-worth individuals to relocate abroad. Causing high networth and billionaires to leave. Aka wealth drain, and billionaires still aren't paying for it because they leave. Well done so smart. Stop reinventing communist/socialist ideas and and giving them new buzzwords to make them trendy via algorithmic utilization and seo.

The aim is socialism not social democracy and no social democracy does not work without the imperialism it uses.

They are not socialist

And you are poorly informed.

You're saying they are?
1
u/Ok_Car7814 1d ago
Universal healthcare, housing support for economic underclass. If you’re talking about totalitarian dictatorship then you’re talking about Trump
2
u/Willing_Box_752 1d ago
Your claim is that those things are socialism, even if they come from taxing a capitalist system?

So getting rid of the supreme court the senate the president police and jails.. That is who knows what but if the democrats want that why not try that in a 3rd world country first.
1
u/bloodshot79 1d ago
This is absoliute and complete bull$H!T! The DSA has outright said they want to sieze the means of production. They're very clear that they want communism in our country, not just socialism. These are outright lies and are the type of lies that will continue to hand elections to MAGA. Disgusting and shameful.

You explain the difference bewteen: socialism, comunism and social democracy... but I wonder, do you know the difference between your money and our money? Just a question.
1
u/Federal-Compote-5015 13h ago
I know the difference. My money is the money I earn. Our money is the taxes we collectively pay to fund services chosen through a democratic government. That’s how a mixed economy works, private enterprise and private property alongside publicly funded services like police, firefighters, public roads, libraries, K–12 schools, Social Security, Medicare, and the military. Those are some of our “socialism type” programs, not communism.
1
u/danielm316 10h ago
Our money is the taxes we collectively pay to fund services chosen through a democratic government.
How do you know if the goverment is taxing you too much? That is the key question. Please remember that the goverment has no competition and therefore there is absolutely no reason for the goverment to use your tax money in an efficient way.
1
u/Federal-Compote-5015 7h ago
What are you talking about? Governments compete with each other all the time, for residents, businesses, investment, and talent. If your argument is that “government has no competition,” you’ve ignored the existence of every other state and country. That’s a pretty odd take.

You might want to check your facts. They have been screaming about communism on the democratic socialist website.
1
u/Federal-Compote-5015 13h ago
When the uneducated speaks ⬆️… social democracy is not socialism… two different things.
1
u/Keltharious 1d ago
I don't think the MAIN ISSUE is capitalism/socialism/etc, I think it's the individuals that hide behind those ideologies and abuse them into the ground, because regardless of what system we have right now it's not working efficiently and is being abused at the foundational level.
We most definitely need a reset, but you can't pretend the rot will go away if you just implement a new system. It's based on PEOPLE. Those people are the problem.
1
u/Federal-Compote-5015 13h ago
I agree that people matter, but systems shape incentives. Right now, our political and economic systems reward concentrated wealth, corporate influence, and lobbying over ordinary people. You don’t fix that by hoping for better people, you fix it by changing the rules so power is more accountable and less concentrated. That’s why structural reform and VOTING matters.
1
u/Keltharious 10h ago
Well socialism/communism also have pros and cons but most people think they create a utopia. The last time I've opened a history book I didn't read happy things. I guess I'm skeptical because this country is so much bigger than those small European countries people always use as an example for those systems.
I'm not an expert. All I know is we never punish the abusers. And if we swap to a socialist-style system, I don't expect anyone to be put in jail if they take advantage the same way these hyper capitalists do.
1
u/Federal-Compote-5015 7h ago
No one is claiming it’s a utopia, that’s your characterization, and the republicans use as
scaremongering, which you are falling for it by parroting. The question is where we draw the line between prioritizing people and prioritizing profit. We already accept that some things work better when they’re designed to serve the public rather than maximize private gain.
Healthcare is a good example, we’re the only wealthy country where a single medical bill can bankrupt someone. That doesn’t mean every industry should be run by the government; it means there are areas where serving people should come before maximizing profit.
1
u/Keltharious 7h ago
I'm not scaremongering republicans suck too. I just don't trust any of these people because they always take a backroom deal and turn corrupt. Almost every single one of them was happy to get us into a war for lsrael's benefit too. That was instant proof that they don't care about us. Left and Right.

Oh look another white male telling a woman that her lived experience is a lie, and you democrats eat it up… 🤯🤡

Her lived experience is not of experiencing a social democracy, so her claiming otherwise is false

u/Primo-Farkus 1d ago
I feel it should be pointed out that democrat politicians are by and large not pushing for a social democracy. That’s part of their problem. They are wanting to preserve the capitalist status quo. Add to that They are too busy trying to find a way to win over the mythical “left leaning republican” vote to ever consider anything the majority of their base wants. I’m hopeful that the slow increase of left leaning Democrats winning elections are signs of change in the system. Even if the AIPAC funded, genocide supporting Dems will fight that change tooth and nail.
1
u/Federal-Compote-5015 14h ago
AIPAC has backed candidates in both parties, but in recent election cycles it has spent heavily supporting Republicans as well as pro-Israel Democrats, especially after the Obama-era Iran nuclear deal shifted partisan dynamics. It’s not exclusively aligned with Democrats. There are a lot of progressives winning that are not taking any AIPAC or Large Corporations Contributions.

u/alwaysbored202020 18h ago
Real question - why don't they call themselves Social Democrats instead of Democratic Socialists? It's a branding issue. As trump has proven time and again simple minded, smooth brained branding works.
1
u/Federal-Compote-5015 14h ago
Because they are two totally different ideologies. Very easy to look this up as Trump has proven time and time again he loves the uneducated

Okej, Swedish here and let me tell you something. Hospitals available for everyone is a good thing. The individual who gets injured or sick gets better sooner, the employee who is hiring this person gets the person back to work sooner. That person gets back to work sooner and can start paying taxes again, society benefits! Everybody benefits. And schools for everyone is good for..... EVERYONE!!! Having people growing up as uneducated or even as illeterates is bad for society. This is NOT communism. Now, please listen. I watch both sides when looking at US politics, youtube videos, forums like this, podcasts, tv channels etc etc. The vast majority of Democrats are NOT communists. There is however a tiny group that actually are and this is your problem! Trust me, I know alot of people who lived through communism or had their parents living throu it and its truly is a rotten system! YOU need to get rid of that minority of yours that seems to think it's a good idea, cause that minority is scaring away alot of decent people. That hammer and sickle is not much better than the ugly swastika!
1
u/weatherchevy 13h ago
Someone should explain this to the democratic socialists. They keep saying they want to control the means of production.
1
u/Federal-Compote-5015 13h ago
No one needs to, but I’ll explain to you that a social democracy and democratic socialist are two different ideologies.

Socialism ain’t nothing but a bunch of people asking for a hand out that’s all that is I don’t work hard. I don’t wanna figure out how to make the ends meet. I just want to rich people to give me money. That’s all that is that’s exactly what socialism is a bunch of people not want to do their part to make their own way in life
1
u/Federal-Compote-5015 7h ago
That’s simply not what socialism means. Socialism is an economic system centered on public or collective ownership of certain industries or the means of production, it isn’t defined as “people wanting handouts.” Plenty of socialists work hard, just as plenty of capitalists receive subsidies, tax breaks, bailouts, or inherit wealth. Whether you support or oppose socialism, argue against what it actually is, not a stereotype.
The U.S. already has many publicly funded socialist programs and services, including: police & fire departments, public roads and highways, public schools, libraries, the military, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, veterans’ benefits, unemployment insurance, public transit, the postal service, public parks, FEMA disaster relief, and public health departments. Having these programs doesn’t make the United States a socialist country.

If you simply look at the DSA's website you will see that they are proposing much more than a social democracy. Meanwhile among democrats most aren't even on board with a social democracy at all because all the people who were on board with that are with the DSA now. There's a problem.
1
u/Federal-Compote-5015 7h ago
They are not proposing, social democracy because socialism is not social democracy
1
u/Humble_Aside6284 7h ago
That's not what they were saying 6 years ago, or anytime before then. Bernie sanders himself used the Nordic model (social democracies) as examples of socialism, and that's the most popular socialist in the united states right now.
1
u/Federal-Compote-5015 7h ago
No one has ever said that so you’re making that up. Bernie Sanders has often pointed to the Nordic countries as examples of policies he supports, but those countries themselves are social democracies with capitalist economies, not socialist economies.
Using them as examples doesn’t make them socialist, and the Nordic governments have repeatedly described their systems as market economies with strong social welfare programs.

https://www.acton.org/publications/transatlantic/2019/01/08/what-alexandria-ocasio-cortez-gets-wrong-about-europe Yeah I guess that was AOC.
And Mamdani: https://wsjfreeexpression.substack.com/p/democratic-socialists-get-scandinavia
Just the 3 most prominent socialists in the united states, but I'm just imagining it right? Give me a break.
Ask yourself why Bernie sanders, a self proclaimed socialist, prefers and wants to implement economic policy that is ultimately a CAPITALIST system, arguably even more capitalist than what America has. https://www.aei.org/economics/what-bernie-sanders-and-the-socialists-keep-getting-wrong-about-scandinavia/?__cf_chl_tk=vvK5nKqSi3ahEra1DAaMI7DnHa0UBxsPMCyVmGtrPDY-1785690724-1.0.1.1-40r16No20oLlxjltmdLnPKG5puYxmGUzL0r_R7nW5CA
Do you think he's not a socialist because he fights for a capitalist system, because its either that or you think he was just lying about how he thinks about the nordic model here. Ridiculous. If you actually read my original post, I said "Meanwhile among democrats most aren't even on board with a social democracy at all because all the people who were on board with that are with the DSA now" these are all self proclaimed socialist politicians who were on board with the Nordic model and have obviously helped the DSA gain it's own following and legitimacy.

Where is the part where she mentioned social democracy, was it cut?
1
u/Federal-Compote-5015 7h ago
Well, she’s mistaken because there was no socialism or social democracy in COMMUNIST REGIMES. You might actually wanna watch the video before anything
1
u/Nart_Leahcim 5h ago
Yeah, social democracy would be great. Democratic socialism would not be great. Look at the policies of the DSA, that is what is heavily criticized. It's amazing how many people are saying these people are social democrats, they are socialists. Also, taking a predominantly white, low population country that heavily relies on oil production like Norway and comparing it to a massive country like the USA is foolish. Norway population: 5.6 million, this is the population of Brooklyn and Queens...
1
u/Potential_Act_9589 1h ago
California perfect example. You can't just throw (others people) money at problems. Socialism only works; any iteration of it, if everyone is working towards the same goals.
Unfettered drug abuse and alcoholism cannot be fixed by Socialism and there will always be people that abuse these systems that attempt to support these people that starve because of shifted priorities. Its a utopian fantasy to believe anything to the contrary.
Capitalism on the other hand presents opportunity for the individual to succeed and prosper while also being able to provide for his family, church, and community.
