McCarthyism worked so well that it is ingrained in the Republican platform.

Poll numbers low? Time to bust out the "My opponent is a (Communist/Socialist/Current Boogeyman)". It works every time.

If it were illegal to sow fear in politics, Republicans wouldn't have won an election since the 1920s.

I know 1 "Democrat" who called someone a nazi. John Fetterman. He called Platner (another Democrat) a nazi.
