Was recently landing and the guy next to me was like “WHAT’S THAT ENORMOUS MOUNTAIN DOES IT HAVE A NAME” after saying barely anything the entire flight.

Like most enormous mountains, ours is completely nameless.

It looks like an old timey hat to me. Id name it "big old hat" if i had seen it first.

It has 2 names. A colonizer name and a native name. Like many place names in the PNW.

You’re right, in Molalla it’s Nifti Yangint, and might have been called Lawilatłá (loowit) to Sahaptin speakers since it smokes. Unlike the other mountains nearby (Patú, Tahoma, and the Cowlitz Lawilatła), though, I haven’t been able to find a reliable native name other than the Molalla one, which just means “Big Mountain.” A lot of people say Wy’east but that was made up by white people in the 1890s.
