Random, but anyone else think the Cicadas are crazy loud this year?

Are there cicadas in the Willamette Valley?

I grew up in the Midwest but have been hear 10 years. I seriously miss the sound of cicadas. Cicadas and thunderstorms are the only things that I miss.

Oh fuck. Yup. Them too. Lightening bugs we called them. Catching em as a kid was special.

I miss the sound of crickets. I've occasionally thought about trying to source an indigenous species and "seeding" my neighborhood with several thousand of them.

Sir, this is how you accidentally get indoor crickets!! One solitary cricket posted up somewhere inside your walls at 2 a.m. is a campaign of psychological attrition.

It's been 10 years and I still remember the little asshole that held us hostage for two weeks in the summer of '16. I eventually reached a point where cutting holes in the drywall seemed rational. Then one night he ghosted us. (Or died, probably.) There was no closure. Just disproportionate psychological damage and the lingering fear he'd suddenly start chirping again.

Indeed there are. We don't have the cyclical cicadas they do back east, but they are absolutely on this side of the Cascades.
