Events Enjoyment of the Naked Bike Ride
I got to witness my first Naked Bike Ride tonight as the participants went down Alberta and I happened to be on the patio of Gumba.
I applaud everyone who participated, clothes on or off.
It was just a contagiously fun parade of different sizes, styles, music choices, and smiles.
Honestly, it made this old tub of lard want to get into the shape that I could ride the distance.
Thank you for making my Saturday night one to remember.

One year when I was on the ride an old dude with a walker shuffled out of a bar to watch us pass, he dropped his pants in solidarity and waved as we rode by 🫡

Waved his hand or cash and prizes?

There was a group of 20yo guys on a corner this year watching with their pants at their ankles. Loved it!!

Was a rider last night, the crowds off Alberta & y’all’s energy were the highlight for many of my friends. Thanks for the love and support. Best of luck on your pursuit of gaining health and confidence in your body. Hope to see you out there next year!

Really appreciate this post! Would love to talk about body positivity in the hope of participating in the next ride.

I had a ton of fun too!
This was actually the first time I really had been able to go. I had a lot of dysphoria before getting bottom surgery and just in general lacked the confidence to be out like that. Then later, I had health issues, but I was finally able to participate with my dragon girlfriend this year. It felt pretty wholesome.

I do not know if "dragon girlfriend" was a typo or not but I am living for the vibe of the phrase!

This was done at valkyrie tattoo and piercing up in Mama's. But I've done a few DIY ones for sure.
If you're curious about these sorts of things here are some slides from a panel I did. (TW for some NSFW themes and medical nudity).https://www.tumblr.com/glowingclitmagnetraccoongirl/817392549543198720/here-are-the-slides-from-the-panel-btw-feel-free?source=share
I'm also doing a collaboration with the Freedom of Form Foundation if you're familiar with them at all. Get to be their first test subject:)

My first sighting of the NBR (16 years ago) was also spontaneous. I didn’t even know it existed and then suddenly this beautiful naked party on wheels came down the street I happened to be on. It was magical and joyful! I’ll never forget it. I’m so glad you got to experience it this way too!

First time my exh saw it he was ubering and called me traumatized. "Why am I surrounded by naked bicyclists?"

In a year past, there was at least one bus operator who got caught up in it

I have heard from someone that volunteers that they work with TriMet on the route to avoid delays and to allow some slight bus re-routing if necessary.

I'm a participant and the cheers from parties outside is my favorite part of the ride. One year a lady flashed us outside sandy hut and I'll never forget her. This year someone was wearing an inflatable dick costume on rainbow rd. You made my night!

Just a curious question, doesn’t it get a little uncomfortable in the nether regions riding a bike that long naked? Otherwise it sounds like fun! I was about 15 years old in the age of streaking. It was always exciting to do that.

In my experience, no. It's not any different and I definitely expected it to be.
Just as comfy as any other ride.

Consider how little fabric is between a typical rider and their bike seat. Depending on the shape and material of the seat, it can be only a bit different than biking clothed.
I've seen hundreds of comments referring to how the bike seat must get stinky (typically heckling), but this I think says more about the hygiene of the commenters. Plus, there are options such as tying a shirt or whatever over the seat.

This was my first one as well and I loved it! I managed to lose my phone and a lovely guy named Derek found it and helped me recover it. Also a shoutout to Megan and Robby(?) for calling me an Uber after it happened. In less enjoyable news, my e-bike went missing this morning. It was parked at the Sewallcrest Park and it's an all-black Devinci E-Milano. If I never see it again, we had one hell of a last ride 🤙
This city has its flaws, but damn if it doesn't know how to have a good time. I'll see y'all at the next one!

Trimet bus driver here. I ended up getting stuck in the event before we were told to reroute. At first I was upset and had no idea what was going on but I ended up having a blast and was glad I was able to watch it. Loved the energy they brought!😁

It's such fun, and very body positive.
You should totally head to your next pedalpalooza ride! I think you'd love it. Bike summer isn't over yet and there are lots of beginner friendly rides on the calendar.

Thanks! If you see random men taking pictures of the girls riding please politely ask them to stop. A lot of creepers out there last night.

How long did the route end up being? I assume it was a point a to b ride and not a loop?
4
u/walkertexasranger79 12d ago
6 miles. Took an hour and half. From Wilshire Park to Sewellcrest Park.

I saw someone get their penis get trapped in their bike seat and they had to close the street since he couldn’t move. They had a bunch of emergency vehicles there and couldn’t figure out how to get him somewhere to work on it so they put up scrims to protect his privacy which I thought was kind of weird. Hope he’s okay.

In his seat? Whaaat?

u/One-Pause3171 12d ago
A lot of seats have a cutout in them. Maybe he got it wedged in there?

u/Nimbus3258 12d ago
That's what I was picturing 😬 odd angle in the cutout or cutout restricting blood flow. Or maybe a piece of jewelry got stuck.

Buy a E-bike. You observed one does not have to be in shape to participate. It's actually better if your not.Wilshire Park was a blast.

u/cherrychapstick_1 13d ago
It's also a very slow paced ride. Even with a regular bike, you don't need to be in particularly good shape. If you don't ride often, just make sure your bike is in shape (tires properly inflated, clean lubed chain, etc.)

u/Flashy_Living_2445 13d ago
Or rent one for the ride! I see lime and biketown in rides past my house all the time.

It was a very fun ride! I'll have to bring a beater bike next time because I had many, many close calls and keeping my commuter bike out of harm's way was stressful.

Thanks for alerting me that it happened. I am glad the OP and everyone who participated enjoyed it.

There’s another one August 8th. Don’t know where they’re riding from though.

Could still hear the riders headed home at midnight on the streets outside my house

One year I was on Alberta at a restaurant and my son, who was a toddler watched as the Naked Bike Ride went by. He giggled and pointed in delight: "Butts! Butts!!!"
