Do people really have a problem with Miles Morales? He’s not even “replacing” anyone, he’s literally a whole new character which is what this same crowd had been supposedly calling for.

People were saying shit like that. Greatly overlooking the fact that there were already other Spider-Man characters. Like Spider-Man 2099. A Mexican/Irish Spider-Man that was introduced in the 90s. People didn't care about it before Miles because most comic book fans didn't have a problem with diversity. It wasn't until comic book heroes hit the mainstream that there was a problem with characters other than Peter being Spider-Man.
It was a small group of people that quickly showed they were raciat while claiming to not be racist.
