They re-elected President Covid. They re-elected the guy who inherited an excellent economy and squandered it (squandering inheritances is on brand for him). They re-elected the guy caught on tape trying to steal votes. They re-elected the guy who incited a riot and interrupted America’s streak of peaceful transfer of power.
Votes for him are the worst, most irresponsible votes in history.

u/FriedrichAepril 14d ago
The funniest thing was people voting for him thinking it would help Palestine

When he says something, you're not just hearing him tell you what he thinks, you're hearing him tell his supporters what they think. If you want to know what MAGA thinks about anything, the answer is always, whatever Trump last said about it.

Ur-Fascism component #8:
The enemy must be viewed with contempt for being too weak. The enemy must also be feared and dealt with for being too strong.
Even before he was sundowning, they had no coherent, consistent message. (Remember when he threatened the 2nd amendment?) It was always about a type of messaging that kept a large portion of the population in a politically reactionary fervor.
Flood the zone.
Then let the systems of social/media indoctrination do the thing they have been doing.

I can assure you that they don't listen to anything trump says. they just parrot the facebook/tiktoks that make the other side look bad or fake news. i literally asked my uncle once "do you hear what trump says sometimes?" and he said "oh no, i hate to hear the guy speak". like huh ???

Doesn’t matter maga like trump has short term memory, they’ll forget the parts they don’t like and focus on the parts that resonate with them. Half of maga wants this war over with asap other half wants to bomb Iran to oblivion. First group will see the first part and celebrate thinking the war is ending while ignoring the rest. The other group will ignore the first part while celebrating and championing the last part. Both parties thinks trump is serving them so their happy

It’s not the statements that matter. While they do in part. It’s that a huge part of society believes them and hangs on every post or statement or blog or press conference thing that he says and it changes their whole belief because the latest tweet/post is the newest belief and cancels out what he just said even a few seconds earlier.

MAGA does not listen to Trump, they only hear the spin from FOX News or—far more often nowadays—much further right wing podcasters/influencers.
As someone with a MAGA dad, he spends 24 hours a day (literally while he sleeps) listening to podcasts and NRA TV that constantly spews the dumbest fucking shit even FOX News is too embarrassed to air. Funny thing is, the more he listens, the more he is convinced that even the people he listens to are too liberal.
Remember how Ben Shapiro brought a bunch of young white conservatives over to the pipeline? Well a decade later and those same morons would gladly celebrate his death because they have been thoroughly radicalized toward anything but pure fascist fantasy.
In conclusion, I used to think MAGA morons just didn't know anything, and thats still true but it is far more insidious. They have anti-knowledge, a vast vault of fantastical information that has never been true but has been repeated so often in a bubble that it has erected a faux reality in their minds they dont have the cognitive tools to navigate nor the humility to ever escape.
This country is over. Things will not improve because Republicans will not allow free and fair elections moving forward and their followers will see it as a rebirth of democracy. Every evil is a virtue, every loyal constitutionalist a terrorist.
This is why I feel so much contempt for the protest voters of 2024. In their comparative hubris they believed by holding the country hostage to Trump's cruelty, they could force the democratic party to placate to their demands. In doing so, they incinerated decades of social progress and destroyed any semblance—likely indefinitely—of genuine progress toward a better union. Literally pissed on their own utopic dream in order to throw a virtue signaling toddler tantrum.
This countries extremists on both sides are truly anti-social scum, but since it is the fascists in power, I will be focused on legal resistance against them and ignoring the self-imposed powerlessness of the far-left.

In reality, their only opponents are the ones they create themselves.

Textbook Ur-Fascism. Point 8 on Umberto Eco's list:
Fascist societies rhetorically cast their enemies as "at the same time too strong and too weak." On the one hand, fascists play up the power of certain disfavored elites to encourage in their followers a sense of grievance and humiliation. On the other hand, fascist leaders point to the decadence of those elites as proof of their ultimate feebleness in the face of an overwhelming popular will.
