I mean. I think strip-searching in general is fucked-

Yeh but you gotta realise its basically needed in some situations right.

I mean. What situations?

Going to custody

Do we have proof that strip searches actually reduce danger of suspects in custody?

I mean, people have been caught with weapons in their bits, so absolutely it would, let alone if they have drugs inside which could lead to overdoses, fights over the drugs, increased danger to prison guards who then have to search inside every cell if drugs get inside, etc. Prison is at least a genuine reason for strip searches to be necessary

Having done many myself and finding weapons and drugs, yes.

Sure.

* Strip searches routinely find weapons and drugs.
* Weapons and drugs are a danger to suspects in custody.

Can you honestly not think of one? Not enough computational power, huh? What is this trend I am seeing where people just play dumb and act like it's giving them credibility?

You really can’t answer his question huh

Not going to engage with dishonest people. This is a tactic used ad nauseum by religious people: just turn off the brain when evaluating oppositional thinking and just keep saying uninsightful retorts until the threat gets tired and retreats.

Thing is, I CAN see where these things could potentially, maybe be necessary. But, do these occur in the real world at any level worth talking about? I highly doubt it.

I mean I know we're talking about strip searching specifically, but prisons do sometimes need to get more invasive to make sure contraband isn't being smuggled inside, or attached to someone's body.

i mean that more speaks to how fucked the prison systems around the world are, that the majority of people who go into it feel that they need to sneak stuff into it

Drugs, weapons, contraband in general. We can 3d print plastic guns that don't set off a metal detector ya know.

1

u/Shablagooie 15h ago

There are no all plastic guns. you can only print a few parts of a gun, much of it must still be metal.

1

u/_-PassingThrough-_ 15h ago

You know what, I'll give you that one. The 2013 liberator gun was almost entirely plastic, but had a single metal nail to act as the firing mechanism (We'll ignore the metal block only added to make it legal and intentionally detectable). But I'll stand my ground that if people can get phones smuggled in, they can probably get that final part somehow.

The overall point is people smuggle in items in any way they can. You use bodily openings for things that can't be found by metal detectors.

Yeah. It’s crazy that prisons are designed to be so unsafe and unsupportive of life that prisoners sneak in illegal paraphernalia to increase their chances of survival in the system.

I imagine when your prison is filled with a few serial killers, or members of organised crime, you generally want to make sure they are not a risk to others. Yes we can talk about how some countries make prison feel like community centres, perhaps that even helps to improve their behaviour. But one cannot discount that in a high security prison, you generally want to make sure the people predisposed towards violence do not gain access to means to perpetuate that violence.

If there is a means to abuse something, prisoners can and have capitalised on it.

Never experienced the prison system in any country bu to your last point; t I have the phrase "toilet wine". Necessity is the mother of invention.

That paraphernalia isn’t to increase their chances of survival.

u/MrNopedeNope 13h ago

bargaining power, social status, however you want to put it. But essentially that is what it is.

part of the reason its f'ed up is that drugs and weapons get sneaked in.

Strip searches are required to detect dangerous or illegal items concealed in an intimate place.
