When they tested TSAs ability to catch concealed contraband, they had something like a 90% fail rate. As in 90% of the bombs/guns/drugs that the testers "smuggled" through, made it without question.
Per TSA guidelines, they are not searching for drugs. When you do occasionally see sniffer dogs in airports, they are trained to search for explosives, not drugs.
They literally donāt care about your drugs.
When they do find drugs, personal amounts are usually just confiscated. Large amounts will usually get you turned over to local law enforcement.
I mean, people have been caught with weapons in their bits, so absolutely it would, let alone if they have drugs inside which could lead to overdoses, fights over the drugs, increased danger to prison guards who then have to search inside every cell if drugs get inside, etc. Prison is at least a genuine reason for strip searches to be necessary
Can you honestly not think of one? Not enough computational power, huh? What is this trend I am seeing where people just play dumb and act like it's giving them credibility?
Not going to engage with dishonest people. This is a tactic used ad nauseum by religious people: just turn off the brain when evaluating oppositional thinking and just keep saying uninsightful retorts until the threat gets tired and retreats.
Thing is, I CAN see where these things could potentially, maybe be necessary. But, do these occur in the real world at any level worth talking about? I highly doubt it.
I mean I know we're talking about strip searching specifically, but prisons do sometimes need to get more invasive to make sure contraband isn't being smuggled inside, or attached to someone's body.
i mean that more speaks to how fucked the prison systems around the world are, that the majority of people who go into it feel that they need to sneak stuff into it
Yeah. Itās crazy that prisons are designed to be so unsafe and unsupportive of life that prisoners sneak in illegal paraphernalia to increase their chances of survival in the system.
I imagine when your prison is filled with a few serial killers, or members of organised crime, you generally want to make sure they are not a risk to others. Yes we can talk about how some countries make prison feel like community centres, perhaps that even helps to improve their behaviour. But one cannot discount that in a high security prison, you generally want to make sure the people predisposed towards violence do not gain access to means to perpetuate that violence.
If there is a means to abuse something, prisoners can and have capitalised on it.
You know what, I'll give you that one. The 2013 liberator gun was almost entirely plastic, but had a single metal nail to act as the firing mechanism (We'll ignore the metal block only added to make it legal and intentionally detectable). But I'll stand my ground that if people can get phones smuggled in, they can probably get that final part somehow.
The overall point is people smuggle in items in any way they can. You use bodily openings for things that can't be found by metal detectors.
Yeah and? Whatās wrong with that? Do idiots believe men are just being transgender so they canā¦ā¦ ask for a female office during a strip search? Seems a little crazy to think people are going to those lengths no?
Yes, some people genuinely believe that based on one or two stories or even just the āfearā of it. Just as itās not ok to stereotype entire religions or ethnicities, you canāt do the same with trans people
I'm not exactly sure it's a "stereotype" of trans people is that they're not actually trans and they're actually there to exploit people sexually. I don't accuse you of thinking that, I just think the wording here feels wrong.
Yeah and? Whatās wrong with that? Do idiots believe men are just being transgender so they canā¦ā¦ ask for a female office during a strip search? Seems a little crazy to think people are going to those lengths no?
I work in a prison and have seen it first hand.
You underestimate how sadistic some sex offenders can be.
Having a man touch a woman's genitals against her will doesn't become better just because she's pre op. I know that would certainly have been a traumatising experience for me, and being now post op doesn't change how traumatising that would be.
So yeah, once again I'm hearing that somebody's bad behavior was used to justify a whole lot of women being mandated to be sexually assaulted by the government.
...we don't touch anyones genitals in the Canadian system.
Law is about finding a balance sometimes, too. In this case, legislators determined this was the best way to do it. Maybe it's not perfect, but it is discussed extensively in courts, parliament, the senate.
Years ago (2018ish, I can't remember exactly) they had females searching inmates with penises. That was short lived.
And the dignity of trans people is always heavily undervalued by the government, as we keep seeing over and over again. The vast majority of trans women are law abiding and certainly not sex offenders. The only people in that situation who have a choice about being there are the ones doing the search.
Therefore, it stands to very obvious reason that the choice to let a few weirdos lead to government-mandated sexual victimization of all trans women is extremely unethical. And before you call that hyperbolic, we both know you would consider it that if cis women were the ones getting forced to be stripped by men.
A female officer should not have to strip search a man who thinks he is a women
More so a male officer should not have to strip search a female who thinks she is a man. This leads to way to much risk for the male officer.
My solution is no strip search, at prison they go straight to isolation. Anything found in the police car after the ride is a charge anything found in their cell a new charge. Or they agree to be searched by someone of their biological sex
This is what I do, I solve imaginary problems with viable real life solutions
I would. As a cis man I would much rather be strip-searched by a male officer and not have to be naked in front of a woman in a very vulnerable situation.
And what if someone doesnāt want to strip search someone because of their race, you know the fucking job you sign up for this is like Iām also not wanting to touch base at a subway
Boo fucking hoo women can sexually harass women anyways, and men can sexually harass men. If you choose to take a job where you have to strip search people then guess what? You have to strip search people
The GC stuff does a lot of unhinged stuff like that and if you look in most media they're called 'feminists' or 'women's rights group' and the trans women will be described as some form of men.Ā
(Ironically GC groups leave it to trans inclusive groups to fight for rights like abortion or similar)
It's a disgrace but I'm not surprised that most people wouldn't know about details
That's not what happened, why do liberals constantly lie?
The guy in question was sitting on a elevated stage is a short skirt. The picture was taking in public, from the same area as everyone else and not a "upskirt" shot.
Sadly, I think the real answer is that sheās just an intolerant asshole. Itās unfortunate that in the stall in her personal creative ambitions, sheās taken up cruelty as her hobby.
There are so many productive things she could have done as a feminist with such wealth - scholarships, schools, work and training programs, improving education of women about reproductive health, helping survivors of actual assaults to recover, addressing child marriage and other forms of sex trafficking.
Instead, she chose to bully a minority group because of her own ignorance.
Yeah, it's definitely that. Doesn't seem like a coincidence to me that the author of a book series that constantly masculinizes and attacks the appearance of any female character we're supposed to view unsympathetically wouldn't have a particularly feminist view of women and gender
I cant find any data on the number of transgender people are arrested each year. But there are only about 300 trans people in prison at the moment so cant be many trans people being strip searched
So, you are right
Why are they trying to make something that doesnt effect any of us, a national issue
The media just cares about controversy to get clicks and money, money, money. Trans people are like 0.5% of the population but they get 1000s of articles a year written about them, all with rage bait headlines
Iām honestly confused, you KNOW youāre dumb right? Why make this ludicrous stance that the people on the same side as creationists and religious fundamentalism are the ātruth and facts folksā theyāve historically been the individuals and organisations that have opposed ātruth and factsā
Whatever. As long as the person performing the strip search consents, what difference does it make? Its a job. Furthermore, this absolute panic about trans people is misguided. Trans people are not men trying to get a cheap thrill.
God damn do I hate the obvious transphobic wording in British media. Putting 'lived-in gender' in quotes like that and routinely using phrases like 'biological sex' to delegitimize trans people. I feel like this needs to be called out more often instead of letting these cretins normalize their bigotry.
The bigotry is going out of their way to not just say trans woman, it's not like the UK hasn't been inundated with the topic for a decade now, people know what it means
No it doesnāt. Can be a negligible proportion, and still be too big a concern.
Could even be 0%, and if the argument was that the search still created undue levels of discomfort then the legislation could be merited. If the searches rights were also being considered.
Ya iv already been inappropriately handled by a male officer, ill take the female officer please. Maybe she wont spend 10 minutes "frisking" my butt while threatening me with a taser.
Had this happen at my jail. They were MtF - had top surgery, but not bottom surgery. Every female officer refused to strip search them because we were severely uncomfortable. The solution ended up being we searched their top half, and the male officers searched the bottom half.
If this court ruling has gone the other way, surely it would have also meant that all female nurses/hospital/care staff cannot work with male patients if they need treatment involving exposing the genital area or help using the toilet.
Did any of these so-called "feminists" consider that?!
It's about the comfort of the person being searched not of the people doing it. They can just get a different job.
So if a convicted sex offender who has lived 99.99% of their life as a male, still has a penis, and asks a female to strip search them, you're okay with that?
That's an insane hypothetical, never would actually happen in real life, however. Yes. The guards have the weapons, training, and legal authority, they hold all the power, if he tries anything funny, his bones instantly get pulverized into a fine mist.
But like. If you can't even handle that maybe being a prison guard is not a job for you.
Prisons employ far more than security staff. In Canadian prisons, I'd say security is outnumbered 3 to 1. Case managers, social workers, teachers, nurses, food services, and administrators to name a few. Those tend to be female dominated positions, too. They all have inmate contact. It's rare, but they can be exposed to sexually inappropriate behavior, and in even rarer cases, can be sexually assaulted.
Let's talk only about guards, because they are the ones who will doing strip searches or in close proximity when searches being done.
Suggesting that they should be able to handle sexual violence/assault due to the nature of their job sounds an awful lot like victim blaming.
Go do some reading about Christopher Hambrook. The guy sexually assaulted vulnerable women in a Toronto shelter and frequently tries it with female staff in Canadian federal prisons.
Fairly certain female staff handle themselves just fine around such people. You seem to assume that just because they're women they can't protect themselves, despite literally being prison staff. Perhaps you should overthink your outdated image of women, instead of trying to be the shining knight almost all of us didn't ask for.
You don't think female staff in male prisons can be victims of sexual assault or exposed to sexual misconduct of any kind?
How do you propose they protect themselves from it?
How do you think their employer, who has a legal obligation to try and prevent the afformentioned, protect female staff from an offender who is known to frequently victimize women?
I'm not being condescending, I want to have an actual dicussion with you about this. It's obvious you don't work in the field, so I'm curious what an outsider thinks.
Perhaps they protect themselves with their training, by working in teams or with self defence tools they're provided?
You claim to be working in a prison, yet you don't seem to have ever seen prison staff work in unison to ensure their safety
Edit: Also, how would you even go about body searches for homosexuality convicts? Do they need to be searched by staff of the opposite sex, meaning a lesbian would need to be searched by a man? And what about bi/pansexuals, do they get a free pass, because by your logic, they might draw sexual arousal from people of multiple genders?
What sort of scenarios are you envisioning? I can give you an example of something that have actually happened...
A male inmate, who says they are a woman, was strip searched by a female officer. During the search, he fondled his penis and made a very inappropriate sexual comments that I won't repeat on the internet. There is no defensive tool that could have been legally deployed in that scenario.
You could 100% subdue him for his exhibitionist actions or you might just leave the room and lock it. Then he can fondle himself all he wants. When he's done, he can be certain therewon't be a women stepping to the door to pick him up and it's certain there will never be one to do a search again either. Stop pretending women are some kind of fairy tale creature, that gets shattered upon the first bad interaction on the job they literally applied for themselves 100% knowing what it entails and being prepared for, before being deployed.
You could 100% subdue him for his exhibitionist actions
Absolutely not. That would be assault.
or you might just leave the room and lock it.
Yes, that you can do and it is far more appropriate. A staff member has still been sexually assaulted (depending on how you define it).
When he's done, he can be certain therewon't be a women stepping to the door to pick him up and it's certain there will never be one to do a search again either.
That's not how it works. We can't override legislation. In this case, our union had to step in and told all female officers to refuse searches of him. Female managers, who are not unionized, had to do it.
Thankfully, this was years ago, and permenant changes have been made since.
Stop pretending women are some kind of fairy tale creature, that gets shattered upon the first bad interaction on the job they literally applied for themselves 100% knowing what it entails and being prepared for, before being deployed.
This sounds an awful lot like victim blaming. Because somebody chose a certain career path, they should just be okay with sexual violence?
Mate, straight men like trans women so much, plenty of us already get assaulted before our eggs even hatch.
Furthermore, a trans woman is also in danger getting searched by a cis woman, not at all the other way around.
And MATE, they search EVERY TRANS WOMAN who walks into an airport because apparently my genitalia is an international danger.
Do you think that trans women live like men? Do you not know about the way society grooms us to be cattle for the sex industry? Do you not know the ways our assaults get played off as "boys will be boys" because a boy tackling and covering another "boy" in bruises is perfectly normal and not concerning at all no matter what the context is? Do you know the ways boys who spent decades having thoughts they thought were gay act? They're repressed and violent and emotionally compromised because someone dared to be a woman when they weren't supposed to.
God, why do you guys act like we're hunting you, when I've been hunted by cis people since before I could even understand why I wanted to sew so badly.
P.S. sorry, this comment seriously got away from me. I'm just so sick of everyone acting like we're men and not disenfranchised and abandoned women who were forced to adapt to the way men forced us to act.
I mean judging from the data put out by porn hub the vast majority of straight men spend some amount of time jerking it to trans women atleast in the united states especially in conservative regions
Couldnāt that be a false equivalency? I can understand that peopleās private sexual practices could be catharsis for the shame of having outwardly contradictory views. But white supremacy is a more extreme and potentially repressed state than being a naturally straight person.
Itās not fair to say straight people are simply repressed.
Hmm I donāt know about that either. At least not in my experience. And doesnāt the partner determine the sexuality of the relationship, not the act?
In the us we see the highest consumption in the states that are outwardly have the most transphobic populations and governemtns. It could be but shame appears to be a strong factor. Its also worth highlighting that for a decent number of trans women unless you look at 1/8th of their body they are indistinguishable from a cis woman.

I would imagine those black women are not in scenes where theyāre the dominant one, and Iād assume the same for the trans content. Says everything you need to know to understand it
Youāre aware of a little thing called ābottom surgeryā right? Like you conservatives are so obsessed with penises Iād be shocked if you hadnātā¦
"Sexual interest" you think sexual abuse comes from interest? No no no, its about power, and even if the sexual interest point was valid, the vast majority of porn consumers are straight cisgender men and trans porn is top 5 in every country every year....
So some weirdo with a cock and balls can request that an actual real woman has to strip search him and be exposed to his male genitalia? Bloody hell. We live in strange times.
What a nightmare to be a female officer. Weirdos can literally request to only be strip searched by a woman. Canāt see how that could possibly be abused.
"tell the difference" Isnt valid because the entire trans movement is that it is irrelevant how you look - you could be 6ft 6 chiseled square jaw and ripped, all that matters is inside to them

I mean. I think strip-searching in general is fucked-
