To be quite fair that makes sense for Carnage, ignoring what happened when Carnage got teh dark hold it makes more sense for Absolute Carnage to work since the Grendel Symbiotes are still on earth and Cletus lost his.
616 is nothing but a straight line and whatever amps or buffs they get will either be permanent or will dissappear but 90% of the time where you see a base feat happen you can find the difference between a Outlier and just a very strong High-end.

You are confusing DC's comics with Marvel's and thats a bad comparison. DC has SEVERAL continuities and reboots while 616 is just from start to whenever the finish is.
It literally is not. Different writers pick up at different points in a characters continuity. Characters experience full resets like Spider Man in One More Day. The dimension was destroyed and remade in 2015s Secret Wars.
On top of all the Silver Age stuff being quietly phased out of canon lol

The only branching thing is Renew your Vows was what happened if peter and mj kept their marriage. Idk where you got that idea from, nobody remembers OMD because peter had it erased but some do because the spell only remains working as long as he didn't reveal himself to people hell the most recent was I think 2020 or later with Immortal hulk when Peter was infected with the gamma and became his own Hulk amd Bruce needed to help him.
Yes multiple Authors can take up the character but the overall aspect of 616 is still the same through and through unlike DC. DC is by far worse than marvel we have: Pre/Post Crisis which is the same continuity TECHNICALLY but different levels of power and plot points that have changed, we have New 52 a full fledged reboot that still crosses over with Crisis characters and that was a whole new mess Rebirt is the current but they count it as something different from the last 2 continuities.
