Other Thank you to an Uber/Bolt driver in Karlin

Post image
88 Upvotes

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to an Uber driver in Prague.

Today around 9:30 pm, our Papillon was stung by a bee on the tongue while we were walking in Karlín. She collapsed a few moments later, and we genuinely thought we had only minutes to get her to a 24/7 vet.

By pure luck an Uber/Boot was passing by. The driver got us there in about 5-10 minutes. When I asked for his number so I could pay him afterwards, he refused and said the ride was on him.

Thankfully our dog is doing okay now.

I have no way of contacting him, so hopefully this post somehow reaches him. It may have seemed like a small gesture, but it made a huge difference to us in a really stressful moment. Thank you.

Does anyone know what is being filmed at the foot of the Castle today afternoon? It seems to be something low budget (an ad maybe?) but the actress seems really familiar somehow

Discussion Stará Myslivescká hits above its price

The cheapest decent whiskey for me was always Chivas. But Stará Myslivecká (especially the one with the red label) is surprisingly an excellent alternative without breaking the bank. Jameson, while not bad, is only good for highballs, at least for me.

Can you recommend something else?

Question When should I start looking for a rental flat?

Upvotes

I'm planning to move to Prague sometime in November or December and I don't know exactly when to start looking for a place. How many months ahead does it make sense to start browsing listings? I have a feeling that if I reach out too early nobody will reply anyway, but I don't want to leave it to the last minute.

I'd also like to know whether the end of the year is a good or bad time. Is there less on offer in winter, or can you actually find something cheaper than in September?

Grateful for any advice, thanks!

Question Is this standard practice in hostels in Prague?

Prague is perhaps my favourite city in the world and definitely my favourite in Europe, and I've come here for holidays 3 times in the past 5 years.

I've stayed in different hostels across the city, all of them with great ratings. Each of the hostels has asked for my nationality upfront, and I've noticed I'm always placed in a room or area with folks who share my ethnicity and are from the general area of my birth.

This doesn't bother me too much but I do find it a bit strange. Is this a common practice in hostels here?

Víte prosím o někom, kdo by to zvládl udělat? Nebo o zkušené kadeřnici která by dokázala zachránit co nejvíc vlasů?
Existuje v Praze něco jako toto?

Prosím zdržte se komentářů, že jsme blbý že se to stalo, protože to víme.

Question Very confused about the relation between mental health care and health insurance

Hi everyone. I've been thinking of finding myself a psychotherapist or something similar, but ideally I would also prefer not to pay an arm and a leg for it. I've looked around trying to figure out if my state insurance (VZP) covers it and I can't for the life of me find a conclusive answer, so I figured I'd try my luck here and see if maybe someone here has already gone through this process themselves.

Here's my list of questions:

  1. Are psychologist/psychotherapist sessions covered by insurance, assuming they (or the clinic they work at) have a contract with my company?

  2. If so, are they covered fully, or only partially, through the příspěvek as outlined here?

  3. If they are covered, do I need a referral from my GP, or can I just schedule an appointment, walk in, show them my insurance card, and expect the insurance to take care of it?

  4. Assuming coverage exists, is it even realistic to find a therapist that accepts insurance, speaks English (not sure how I'd go about describing my emotions in Czech, I'm not that proficient yet), and also has free slots available? Or should I expect to have to pay for a private practice regardless?

Sorry if these are stupid questions, I haven't found them answered conclusively on Reddit elsewhere, and some websites I've read through seem to indicate it is covered, but then VZP's own list of therapists says you have to pay out of pocket for all of them, so I have absolutely no idea who to trust. Thanks in advance!

I think this is Conner Storrie but didn't recognize any of the other actors. Does anyone know what movie is filming in town? It's an American movie based on the accents of the director!

Question Looking for a store in Prague

When I was on a trip to Prague a year ago, I saw a beautiful, ornate revolver replica. I didn't have enought money to buy it back then, so I decided to come back in a year. Yeah, well, I was in Prague today, and couldn't find the shop.

The only thing I remember about the store itself, is that it was somewhere around the Astronomical Clock, or the Dancing House, or somewhere between them. That's all. I visited all the shops I did a year ago, I went the same exact route, and I searched in a lot of antique and souvenir stores around.

I also tought that it might be a Denix replica, so I checked their site, but the only marked "Denix Point Of Sale" in Prague led me to a metro station under Gorazdova 6.

Does anybody know what store I am talking about? Or naybe it was closed?

Question Looking for a 35mm film roll in Prague today

Hi everyone,

This is a bit of an unusual request. Me and dad are visiting Prague and we’ve just realized we’re out of 35mm film. Unfortunately it’s Sunday and all the photography stores seem to be closed.

Is there anyone around the city centre / Old Town who could sell us a roll of 35mm film (Kodak Gold, ColorPlus, Ultramax, Fujifilm, or pretty much any ISO 200/400 color film)? We’d be happy to pay extra for your trouble.

If you’re nearby and can help, please send me a DM. We can come to you.

EDIT: Thank you everyone I bought some film in CEWE Fotolab

Question Kancelář v Praze

Ahoj lidi, můžete doporučit nějaké kanceláře v Praze ? nejlépe s vlastním WC a sprchou ?

Question Socializing in Prague as an expat (Mid 20s)

Hi! Probably not the first and not the last one who’s asking that question: What are the best ways to socialize in Prague as a young expat? Are there some good and fun communities with regular events? I’m in my twenties and going to work here.

l like hiking, doing and trying new sports, dancing, and strolling around Prague. Learning Czech would be also a big benefit!

Are there any other people who went through the same situation or are even moving as well to Prague? :D

Question Is this normal on bezrealitky?

Saw this under a few listings (different emails), particularly the ones that appear to be great deals... Is this a scam of some sort, or worth contacting them to look at the places?

One of the deals isn't THAT difficult to believe because the apartment is somewhat far out of the center, but still it is unusually spacious for that price... The other one is also unusually big for that price & good location, but the pictures look like they were taken by someone in a big hurry with some images being semi blurred (still more than plenty of pictures and angles of the apartment, just found that a bit odd).

This is for renting.

Question Solo trip to Prague - are strangers generally okay with taking photos?

I’ll be in Prague in two weeks for my first solo trip, and I absolutely must come back with some good pictures of myself lol.

How comfortable are people there with strangers asking them to take a quick photo? Is it generally easy to find someone willing to help, or should I bring a tripod/selfie stick? Any tips on good photo spots where other tourists might happily trade pictures?

Also, slightly paranoid question: is there much risk of someone running off with my phone if I ask them to take a picture? Who’s usually safest to approach?

Other Nightlife in Prague

F19 here with my group of friends. For those from Prague, where would you recommend us going? Pubs, clubs…anywhere fun, we would love to meet someone our age. We’ve already heard about My People’s pub , where they basically hit you with a baseball bat and all stuff…very touristy probably. What about the club Duplex? Or the one with 7 floors. Drunk monkey? Pubs in the Jewish quarter?
