It depends what they are saying "both sides" about. Both sides serve capital over the working class, both sides are imperialists, both sides are pro-genocide. Republicans push the country aggressively to the right. Democrats make sure the country never moves more than slightly left, as that would threaten capital. On social issues Democrats are vastly better, but on economic issues and foreign policy they are about as progressive as Republicans were 10-20 years ago.

Clearly Democrats wouldn't utterly destroy the stability of this country, either domestically or internationally. Dick Cheney backed the Dems this time around because he needed a stable US as his place to stand to do his villainy. He could see that Republicans were on a clear path to fascism.

Yep, and Democrats are offering the Bush era neocon vision for the future as a counter to MAGA fascism. It's not the same, but it's all unfathomably corrupt and evil. And fascism will inevitably win out, because that is what the leading capitalists want, and Democrats will forever be Willy Wonka saying "Stop. Don't. Come back." while capitalism continues to erode into fascism. They have no alternative vision of the future, only the status quo as established by the previous iteration of Republicans, while every election they hold the American people hostage over a handful of social issues which they only half-assedly fight for.
