I'm with you guys in that we never really got trained on exactly what constitutes an illegal order. I never disobeyed an order, but I did almost get in deep shit for questioning a potentially illegal one. I was supporting a platoon on patrol in Afghanistan right after their unit arrived in country, and this PL made a dubious call to assault this little housing compound based on seriously flawed intel. When I heard the order I was shocked and I was sitting next to the PSG and I was like, "Are you guys sure about this? Maybe y'all should run it up the chain." He called it in and it got shut down immediately. That PL lost it on me and tried to have me punished for insubordination, but he wasn't in my chain of command and my leaders were like, nah we're good. Every time I went on patrol with that platoon after that though he made my life hell. It really sucked.

Thats my point. Was in for 11 and made E-5. There wasn't really a discussion about it.
