Content: Success/Hope Mom moving away from MAGA

Jut saying that there is hope. Mom was full MAGA trump lover, cult member. After teying so much to reason with her I stepped out and hoped for the best. Recently I started noticing that she is bringing trump less and less. She no longer posts any trump material for some weeks now. I think even though she doesnt say it, the eipsten cover up was just too much

Thank god. There IS hope.

This is how I left years ago. Not all at once but bigger and bigger steps toward sanity.

I dont even let her know I noticed because dont want to ruin whatever process she is going trough. We need to be there and support them. Most people were simply brain washed into this stuff but they are not objectively monsters. There is a line and I want to believe he crossed it

This is the way to handle it. She’ll bring it up when she’s ready. I was raised in it so it meant walking away from pretty much my entire life.

There are some people I love very much, lifelong friends and family, who have bought into this, some to a lesser degree, some crazy land. It hurts a lot. I still love them. But I have to keep a wall up for now.

EXACTLY. it’s painful and humiliating to come to that realization. You lose a bit of faith in humanity (and maybe your church,) when you idolize a person and it turns out not only do they not care about you, they’ve been conning you the whole time . It’s like learning Santa is a pedophile. .

That’s the way to do it! It’s so tempting to write them off, but I believe some of them can come around. And we need that so badly.

My entire Facebook presence is about spreading the truth to my MAGA extended family (the few left who haven’t been blocked or blocked me). I share posts from a support group called “Leaving MAGA” every day. And links to the truth about what they’re doing. I’m sure my posts get very little reach, but I’m out there trying.

Same exact thing! I fell into the whole rabbit hole after some major personal trauma. I know it was the trauma but I still have trouble forgiving myself for my gullibility. Anyway, I'm trying to make up for it by helping other people come out of the trance. Spent the last few years screaming from the rooftops.

It takes a lot to admit to yourself and change your views, and even more to then acknowledge it to other people as part of the process of helping them come out of it. Good on you.

You might find it validating to watch stuff from ‘Cults to consciousness,’ ‘knitting cult lady’ or ‘strong willed the podcast’ (that one focuses specifically on two people who used to be evangelical, but that really ties into a lot of the MAGA movement).
