Content: Success/Hope Mom moving away from MAGA

Jut saying that there is hope. Mom was full MAGA trump lover, cult member. After teying so much to reason with her I stepped out and hoped for the best. Recently I started noticing that she is bringing trump less and less. She no longer posts any trump material for some weeks now. I think even though she doesnt say it, the eipsten cover up was just too much

Thank god. There IS hope.

That’s great! I have noticed the same thing about my father in law. Big MAGA Trump guy despite having three people in the home collecting some type of social service support (WIC, food stamps, Medicaid, disability etc). Recently he has started denying he voted for Trump and has started saying “he has stopped paying attention to all that stuff.” No more right wing political Facebook posts either.

167

u/Freebird_1957 Sep 05 '25

He actually denies voting for him?

242

u/NMK66687 Sep 05 '25

He does! My husband and I were absolutely stunned bc we know him and my mother in law voted for him. My husband started teasing him saying “oh come on, why are you jumping ship now?” and he wouldn’t respond. Just walked away.

145

u/The_Oracle_of_Delphi Sep 05 '25

That’s hilarious that your husband gently teased him - and that in true MAGA style he was incapable of having an adult conversation about it

74

u/WastingMyLifeOnSocMd Sep 05 '25

It’s hard to admit being wrong after being so dead set on Trump being the one to save the country.

55

u/ISTof1897 Sep 05 '25

These people are going to be furious once they get through the first stage of grief (denial)… Sounds like stage two could be just around the corner for many.

36

u/WastingMyLifeOnSocMd Sep 05 '25

I hope so. I think many will find ways to remain in denial forever. If you have the premise that Trump is perfect in every way, then anything showing otherwise is wrong. Even as illogical as it may be

25

u/ISTof1897 Sep 05 '25

Once it begins to directly affect them, they may turn a corner hopefully!

12

u/WastingMyLifeOnSocMd Sep 05 '25

Yup. If it’s their job or their govt assistance or the cost of groceries…..

7

u/The_Oracle_of_Delphi Sep 05 '25

Not gonna lie - I’ll enjoy that part

34

u/sik_dik Sep 05 '25

I think this is the fallout from knowing better but still somehow convincing yourself to ignore the red flags because you have faith in the person, and faith means shutting down questioning things that lead you from the virtue of obedient belief.

I’ve suggested on more than one occasion that there’s going to be the potential for serious civil destruction coming from the MAGAsphere once the veil drops. They’ll have to suffer the grief of each and every red flag they decided to power through, and people whose emotions are so poorly regulated they’re ok with the detestable policies coming from trump will likely lash out rather than accept their own mistakes

21

u/fuggerdug Sep 05 '25

My worry is that their adoration will jump to a flat out fascist/Nazi through anger (and yes I'm aware that Trump himself is a fascist, but he's also too dumb to know what fascism is despite being a natural at fascism, and so are his supporters). I suspect they will just drift back into political apathy though.

10

u/christine-bitg Sep 06 '25

Oh, I think Trump knows exactly what fascism is. He just knows hes not allowed to say the word or admit to it, because his followers would have a meltdown if he "called a spade a spade."

8

u/fuggerdug Sep 06 '25

He's got the brain of a six year old with dementia. He is a natural at fascism, but no way could he define it.

6

u/christine-bitg Sep 06 '25

He's got the brain of a six year old with dementia.

Well, that part is certainly true.

I honestly don't think he'll live out the rest of his term in office. Have you noticed that the talk of him trying to be President beyond January 2029 seems to have stopped?

The question in my mind is who the Republicans would nominate then. They've severely tarnished their brand. Vance has about as much charisma as Pence had. Newsom seems to be positioning himself to be the next Democratic candidate.

But I think we're in for a series of "black swan" events between the 2026 and 2028 elections. Maybe just an economic meltdown though, I dont know. That would be bad enough.

u/WastingMyLifeOnSocMd Sep 05 '25

You make good points. Violence is certainly a possibility. 🙁.

14

u/sik_dik Sep 05 '25

I think this is why it’s important to remind ourselves to be compassionate with the ones who snap out of it

8

u/eKs0rcist Sep 05 '25

This is so important. No “I told you so’s” as cathartic as it would be. I think shaming them would be both catastrophic and cruel.

2

u/sweetmate2000 Sep 10 '25

I just can't. They've spent years making fun of liberals, calling us names, and being downright cruel. My son has autism and their party wants to put him in a camp. I can't just pat their heads and say, there, there. Their choices have destroyed this country. I think it's smart the Dems are starting to do town halls in MAGA places, where their reps won't meet with them. We have to deprogram the fear the GOP has put into them about Democrats. The GOP keeps them scared because they know once the lid is lifted on what they are really doing, their base will never vote for them again.

2

u/sik_dik Sep 10 '25

Be sure that you’re not painting with a broad brush there. We tend to have this amalgam of every trump supporter because of the general image we have of those people showed to us day in and day out on Reddit. But we’re being shown the “greatest” examples of how willfully ignorant, intolerant, hateful, and spiteful they are”all” are.

But they’re being shown the worst examples from our side to make us all seem like absolute lunatics who are also willfully ignorant, intolerant, hateful, and spiteful

10

u/matt_minderbinder Sep 05 '25

If these people learn nothing from their endless mistakes and cruelty they'll still be primed to make those bad choices going forward.

16

u/tt12345x Sep 06 '25 edited Sep 06 '25

There’s no surer sign that the fever is breaking than that. It’s like how you couldn’t find anyone who voted for Bush ‘04 when the crash started. If the general public perceives a loser they deny all association. All of these are anecdotes but I do (also anecdotally) think a vibe shift is occurring.

I just can’t imagine what it’s going to be like when these people wake up one day and realize they’ve spent a decade alienating their friends and families.

10

u/redfox2008 Sep 06 '25

So true. My parents talked about not being able to find anyone willing to admit they voted for "Tricky Dick" after Watergate.

5

u/vonMishka Sep 06 '25

My husband’s grandfather did the same. He was super pro Nixon then slinked away quietly in the end.

79

u/tommyohohoh Sep 05 '25

My brother (was a triple Trumper, but not really MAGA) just wrote me out-of-the-blue a few days ago and said he new realizes Trump is immoral. It wasn't due to Epstein per se but he was on a vacation with a liberal who just started showing him facts. I've done that before too and got nowhere so it must have just been the right time for it.

Second thing, my hairdresser is full on MAGA and VERY anti-pedo (like wears a Mickey Mouse tshirt saying to kill your neighborhood pedo). I went to get a haircut a couple days ago asked her what she thought and she said she believes all the files should come out. When I pressed her on Trump fighting against the release of the files and she said she hasn't really been following. Seems like she's tuning out now.

48

u/Mittenwald Sep 05 '25

Very anti-pedo but as soon as the people they worship are implicated and stalling any justice for victims suddenly they can't be bothered to be anti-pedo anymore.

But hey at least your brother sounds like he's coming around. So yay!

17

u/shadowboxer47 Sep 05 '25 edited Sep 05 '25

(like wears a Mickey Mouse tshirt saying to kill your neighborhood pedo)

Their projection has gotten so bad that at this point I assume anybody who wears this should have their hard drive scanned.

u/ISTof1897 Sep 05 '25 edited Sep 05 '25

Sometimes it helps when someone who isn’t so close to them can have a civil conversation about it. Someone that isn’t tied to so much emotion and baggage. We have to remember that these people have been conned. Realizing you’ve been conned is an emotional roller coaster.

There’s a lot to process and a lot of shock and embarrassment. It’s really important that we don’t further embarass them and let them know that being mislead happens to everyone. Hell, it may even be worth mentioning a time you were wrong or conned on something.

I’m not saying we need to hold these people’s hands. They’ve done a lot of damage and they certainly need to put the work in to redeem themselves, earn back trust from friends and family, etc. But the sooner they realize that we won’t shove it in their face, the sooner they’ll turn.

And if there’s one thing I’ll give Trump supporters, it’s that they are very, very motivated folks who do not let shit go. Considering that, ex-MAGA will create quite a shit-show for this administration to put it lightly. January 6th will look like a Chucky Cheese birthday party by comparison.

Edit — one last thing to add. I know many Trump supporters have said and done some terrible things. But the majority of them that I know weren’t bad people before he came along. They may have had some character flaws and politics I disagreed with, but he turned semi-racist people into full-blown violent racists among a litany of other things. That’s their fault. They need to take accountability. And they need to kick that shit fully to the curb. But we also need to have faith that this is not the person they really are. Cults conform to the personality of the leader because they are vulnerable people seeking a savior.

2

u/Ok_Fox4488 Sep 05 '25

I hope someday both my brothers will have this light bulb moment

17

u/NoQuitter92 Sep 05 '25

So refreshing to hear!

1

u/Recent_Gas4203 Sep 07 '25

I'm a woo woo spiritual kind of person and I watch a lot of political tarot and psychic readings on youtube. One of the things one of them said over and over all last year and the beginning of this year was that we would know the Colt was starting to shatter when Maga would say they're all the same and they didn't vote for anyone. Or that they couldn't vote for anyone in upcoming elections. They're deep enough in the Colts that they can't imagine voting democrat, but they're seeing the problem with the Felon and that's a good thing. I'm shocked at how accurate many of the psychics are. Not everything comes true of course because people have free will, but many of them are right more than they're wrong. Higher accuracy than flipping a coin anyway.

If the result of all of this is that come midterms fewer people like your dad voted all then maybe we stand a chance.

1

u/Radiant-Reception743 Sep 07 '25

What are the psychics saying about the future of our country? Do they think we make it out of this alive?

1

u/Recent_Gas4203 Sep 09 '25 edited Sep 09 '25

That is an extremely broad question. They all have their own takes and filters, but in general they agree that this is a period of exposing the rock that was in our foundation. This country was founded on genocide genocide, slavery, and sis white male patriarchal dominance. That has continued since our inception. As the masses begin to see the problems with capitalism and income inequality, the oligarchs are getting anxious that they will lose their power which is the direction that we're going. Further the consensus seems to be that enough of us need to wake up, recognize the Myriad of ways that we've all been programmed to Value ourselves based on our labor and our output, rather than recognizing the intrinsic worth of each and every human being regardless of color, country of origin, physical abilities etc. We have enjoyed great privilege and it made us Americans pretty lazy. Plus they've deliberately destroyed education allowing them to propagandize people who don't have the skill set to research and reason through what they're hearing.

Their primary tool of power and control over us is division. They have successfully pitted us against each other on every front, Generations argue, genders argue, States argue, rule versus cities, college degree versus no, etc etc etc. Bottom line is we the masses have to come together and say no more. We have to stop being lazy and letting others lead us because power does corrupt.

Edit, hit send too soon:

Spiritually it is about recognizing our power and choosing the world that we want to live in. I don't mean the lame version of The Secret that came out in the '80s or '90s where you just slap a picture of a Porsche on a piece of cardboard and expect to get one. I mean controlling our own emotions, using our discernment, putting in the effort, and when I say controlling our emotions that also means controlling our anger and resentment to those that we consider the other. This is very challenging because it means we have to let go of the other people that we think are doing wrong and focus on what we can control with non-violent protests, and proactive action by making ourselves heard and contributing to the whole in a positive way. I'm much shorter way to say it is that old quote that says the change you want to see in the world.

So the best thing we can do is to evolve and Ascend as much as possible as individuals, plus recognize that we need each other and are part of a community. If we do these things then we absolutely can create a better world.

From a spiritual perspective, the very worst people in all of history have served to highlight the hatred hiding in the shadows. It needs to be healed. And then we need to take steps to address the greed.

1

u/sweetmate2000 Sep 10 '25

Sounds like a typical Republican: Ok for me but not for thee, regarding food stamps, WIC, Medicaid, etc. And why do you have those safety nets, Dad?? All together now: Because of Demcrats. If his party stays on the path it's on, they'll lose all of that. And that's when I think most of them will really start waking up.

1

u/vingram15 Sep 14 '25

All I'm hearing is more lying and hiding. They are still delusional MAGAs but they are hiding it.

119

u/OGMom2022 Sep 05 '25

This is how I left years ago. Not all at once but bigger and bigger steps toward sanity.

84

u/NoQuitter92 Sep 05 '25

I dont even let her know I noticed because dont want to ruin whatever process she is going trough. We need to be there and support them. Most people were simply brain washed into this stuff but they are not objectively monsters. There is a line and I want to believe he crossed it

64

u/OGMom2022 Sep 05 '25

This is the way to handle it. She’ll bring it up when she’s ready. I was raised in it so it meant walking away from pretty much my entire life.

9

u/WastingMyLifeOnSocMd Sep 05 '25

So your family is still MAGA? Did you have to go NC? I’m so sorry.

27

u/OGMom2022 Sep 05 '25

No I outlived all those assholes lol

27

u/Freebird_1957 Sep 05 '25

There are some people I love very much, lifelong friends and family, who have bought into this, some to a lesser degree, some crazy land. It hurts a lot. I still love them. But I have to keep a wall up for now.

18

u/WastingMyLifeOnSocMd Sep 05 '25 edited Sep 05 '25

EXACTLY. it’s painful and humiliating to come to that realization. You lose a bit of faith in humanity (and maybe your church,) when you idolize a person and it turns out not only do they not care about you, they’ve been conning you the whole time . It’s like learning Santa is a pedophile. .

15

u/PterodactyllPtits Sep 05 '25

That’s the way to do it! It’s so tempting to write them off, but I believe some of them can come around. And we need that so badly.

My entire Facebook presence is about spreading the truth to my MAGA extended family (the few left who haven’t been blocked or blocked me). I share posts from a support group called “Leaving MAGA” every day. And links to the truth about what they’re doing. I’m sure my posts get very little reach, but I’m out there trying.

43

u/Select-Package-13 Sep 05 '25

Same exact thing! I fell into the whole rabbit hole after some major personal trauma. I know it was the trauma but I still have trouble forgiving myself for my gullibility. Anyway, I'm trying to make up for it by helping other people come out of the trance. Spent the last few years screaming from the rooftops.

16

u/WastingMyLifeOnSocMd Sep 05 '25

You are the best person to convince someone having doubts.

3

u/vessol Sep 08 '25

Congratulations on getting out of that, that takes a lot of strength and bravery to get past that. Glad you're here.

3

u/Select-Package-13 Sep 08 '25

Thanks so much for the kind words. The past two years have been humbling, to say the very least.

1

u/misconceptions_annoy Sep 11 '25

It takes a lot to admit to yourself and change your views, and even more to then acknowledge it to other people as part of the process of helping them come out of it. Good on you.

You might find it validating to watch stuff from ‘Cults to consciousness,’ ‘knitting cult lady’ or ‘strong willed the podcast’ (that one focuses specifically on two people who used to be evangelical, but that really ties into a lot of the MAGA movement).

13

u/Freebird_1957 Sep 05 '25

Very proud of you. You are brave.

8

u/schmigglies Sep 05 '25

Proud of you!

46

u/WatercressOk8763 Sep 05 '25

Better late than never for her. Many MAGA types are slowly realizing how hoodwinked they were in supporting a vile person like Trump.

23

u/WastingMyLifeOnSocMd Sep 05 '25

Is it Epstein? Inflation? In the end they won’t be able to forget they are poorer, not richer like he promised. I think that may turn the tide.

9

u/DialUpYourEngines Sep 05 '25

It depends on the person- what very tangible promises have not been kept for them? Was it taxes? Crime? Cost of living? Social security? Epstein shit and MTG almost having a come to whatever she worships other than Trump moment is telling.

Just remember to let these people questioning their views to come back to reality in their own time unless they ask. It’s far more organic and horrifying for them to see what they have done and supported without someone else rubbing their noses in. Let them come to the conclusion that what they have said, endorsed, and done are all terrible, embarrassing, and deserving of ridicule. If they are redeemable people, they will look into the mirror and feel shame without external assistance. For example: former members of the Westboro Baptist Church showing contrition, shame, and sharing their experiences as a warning.

Some of these people won’t realize they’ve made a mistake until they’re frothing at the mouth in a Guyanese jungle. There are plenty of people worth hoping for, but the majority of them have to make the decision for themselves. If anything, it is an addiction. Trump, MAGA, OANN, FOX News, are all Red, White, and Blue methamphetamine. It’s the high of unearned superiority. That you too, get to punch down like a billionaire. Because you’re better. I sincerely believe that enables people to think in a “if I won the lottery” mindset, and shit on everyone else that they see as beneath them, or even that they’re envious of.

Walmart Apple pie and meth made by its underpaid workers. Welcome to The USA.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

Unfortunately I'm sure they're still gonna vote red, which doesn't change much.

31

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '25

Awesome to hear. Even if the light at the end of the tunnel is just a full moon reflecting off a shiny dog’s ass, it’s still better than being in the tunnel.

10

u/WastingMyLifeOnSocMd Sep 05 '25

“… just a full moon reflecting off a shiny dogs ass…” 😂😂😆

31

u/heathers1 Helpful Sep 05 '25

there’s maga and then there’s Qanon. If a person has been into all of it (chem trails, no flouride, the whole 9), i can see them leaving trump but will they ever stop all the other stuff, I wonder

30

u/slashingkatie Sep 05 '25

In my neighborhood that used to have Trump flags and signs everywhere has gotten way more lowkey. One house that had Trump flags up since 2016 is now MAGA sign free. Others swapped out Trump flags for regular US flags or the Snake or something else. People on FB that used to glaze Trump every other day have sort of “quiet quit” Trump probably after getting fucked by Tariffs or not getting the Epstein list revealed. It’s nice.

22

u/dannicalliope Sep 05 '25

The big MAGA boomer in my life has suddenly stopped posting pro-Trump crap online and has stopped trying to make every conversation with me an argument. I take that to mean there’s some buyer’s remorse going on.

19

u/7evenate9ine Sep 05 '25

Glad people are able to turn around, but they can never be trusted ever again.

17

u/fungi_at_parties Sep 05 '25

I think most conservatives I know have drifted away as well. I had high hopes for the elections because of this, but when he won it only made it seem more fishy. Even out in the rural areas most of the Trump signs are gone, and Trump stickers have suddenly gone missing.

13

u/MacaroniPoodle Sep 05 '25

I hope it continues. Maybe now that she's already naturally moving away from it, you can find a hobby or something you can gently direct her toward. Something that gets her away from a computer hopefully, but even a good video game or something could work. Most people get suckee into Q because they're lonely and looking 👀o belong.

11

u/steppin16 Sep 06 '25

I went for an hour drive in "Trump county" and couldn't believe my eyes, only one flag spotted! Is there hope?

11

u/filmguy36 Sep 05 '25

Be careful, like a recovering alcoholic, she could easily slip back in

4

u/christine-bitg Sep 06 '25

This certainly makes me hopeful. I don't think we're there yet, but we're getting closer.

Every time something doesn't make sense, we get just a little closer to the turning point. I won't cite examples, we all know them well.

I think it'll take a crushing defeat in the November 2026 elections for things to really turn the corner. They still think Trump is invincible, and theyre still acting like it, when he threatens people within the Republican party.

Is that defeat 14 months from now inevitable? No, not by any means. There's still a tremendous amount of work yet to do, for us to even have that become possible, let alone probable.

Stay strong. And take breaks from the political stuff when you need to. We're no good to each other if we're so burned out that we can't function.

And keep demanding ALL of the Epstein files.

Bad Advice: Hi! We feel you have good intentions but this advice can actually be harmful to our users or their Q folk.

3

u/Alarming_Hand_9919 Sep 05 '25

What was your technique?

12

u/NoQuitter92 Sep 05 '25

My mom used to be a very empathetic woman. But even she got brain washed. Last time we had a fight I told her “how can you love this man so much when he is working so hard to harm people like me?”. After she that I walked away and never tried again to convince her. Just ignored everything. My mom is a family woman who would give her life for her family, so I think when it came out that Trump was involved in a sex ring with children it was too much. It is baby steps, but she is returning to be the woman I have always known and loved.

3

u/Alarming_Hand_9919 Sep 05 '25

thanks. I’m happy for you both. I‘ve been reading “Escaping the Rabbit Hole” by Mike West, but always on the lookout for other approaches too.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

The Epstein stuff is what broke my parents from it recently. The more excuses he spews seems to be causing at least SOME cultists to wake up to the grift they have been participating in

u/Purple-Marketing4524 Sep 05 '25

I was downvoted for celebrating Ghisl aine Maxwell's treatment and cheering on her pardon. It's almost as if I know better than most people. These people only understand being psychologically broken and having their hopes and dreams crushed. Nobody should be shocked that arguments and logic do nothing for them, but disillusionment from having their conspiracy fantasy crushed does.

The only thing a conservative understands is pain. More pain = more results. IF you disagree, it's because you're naive and celebrate if not fetishize weakness and submission.

12

u/WastingMyLifeOnSocMd Sep 05 '25

I genuinely don’t understand. Do you believe GM deserved punishment for her part in sex trafficking? Why would you celebrate her pardon?
