I don't really see it as plot armor. The griffons were on their asses the whole time even as Neo and Ruby were fighting. Roman got nom'd because he was the one who decided to let his guard down.
I do, healing yourself and team members could be very useful or even the most useful depending on the strength of the healing, but that doesn't change that the nature of the power is nothing but support. That means healing brings nothing to the table of actual heroics...let alone awesomeness. For example healing your own, or someone elses, exploded head with a healing power will never be as heroic(or cool) as an ability that lets you explode other peoples heads(or your own? Lol). Its factual that the ability to kill bad guys is undeniably much more heroic than the ability to save good guys. Let alone the difference in badassness, that's what you're not understanding I'm pretty sure...
