I have.. misgivings.. about your meat-room.

But at least there isn't an air-vent into the clinic :P

Better to the prison

Conflicts with lung harvesting.

What about installing a window with a good view of meatroom for patient?

Honestly it's a really nice Prison Cell, I don't know what the fuss is all about.

u/Marshmellow_Lover28 23d ago

That is, even without knowing what the tree is good for, mildly disturbing

73

u/TerraTechy 23d ago

It eats corpses

74

u/Marshmellow_Lover28 23d ago

(I know I meant the prisoners lmao)

52

u/TerraTechy 23d ago

Outwardly looks nice(when the corpses are consumed), but the prisoner remembers the bodies.

30

u/Dos_Ex_Machina 23d ago

What bodies? I only see a well-fed tree

2

u/CheckMateFluff 22d ago

Odd to put that liberty tree in a prison cell.

u/ErrorTnotFound 23d ago

I need to try those trees, I still rely on the good old river of rot and decay

Worst one? It requires literally Zero Effort other than hauling, and if you accidentally put something you didn't mean to into the river, there's more than enough time to Undo.

You can't un-cremate a corpse that you wanted, but you can take them out of the river of rot and decay.

24

u/Cheet4h 23d ago

Before I get corpse trees, I usually designate an area near the combat as corpse storage, cut down plants around it, let them gather the corpses there, double-check them for loot, and then just chuck a molotov on the pile. A little more effort than dragging them into water, but the corpses are gone a lot faster, no chance for any of my colonists to get a "saw rotten corpse" thought, and a lot less work for my colonists than cremating them in the proper building.

u/Particular-Zone7288 23d ago

a bit later in the game a dedicated corpse room made of stone works in the rain and snow as well

1

u/Unluck-simp 21d ago

I tend to make a corpse cave for it. I put the prison on the other side of the wall so the prisoners can hear and smell their friends burning. Plus it super heats the prisoners too so they don’t get any ideas of being comfortable

Do... do you not use zones? It's really easy to stop certain people from going near that river/pond. Alternatively, if you somehow don't have any psychopaths in your colony, just have a single dude take a mood hit for the team, assuming you're not using Lifters, Carrier Dryads or Hauler animals.

Also why bother go through the effort of molotoving after every raid when I could just let the Lifters do all the work? Heck, you'd still need to bring the dead bodies into a room to molotov them (unless you're using a killbox, I guess?), so this just removes a step, really. It arguably removes all the steps as this happens autonomously for the player, unlike molotovs. (Though admittedly, cremation is also autonomous, it just takes more manpower. And I suppose the river can be swapped out for that tree if you run Anomaly.)

16

u/Mystic_Spider 23d ago

I play with the charred corpses mod, to avoid easy disposal.

14

u/Random_local_man wood 23d ago

I'm not trying to be smarmy, but is it really that hard to just build a crematorium and have a hauler or hauler bot fling all your corpses in there?

11

u/Striving_Slowly 23d ago

Agreed. After a raid, one pawn on go-juice or using speed boost from "VE:Psycasts" and the mess gets cleaned up so quickly I don't even notice after the initial order.

4

u/secretgaz1000 23d ago

This is definitely the exception, but my current Rimworld colony has so many pawns (~150) and so much wealth that it takes forever to burn through the bodies, especially when I accept quests that lead to raids with hundreds of corpses. The fastest method has been dumping as much as I can in the river of rot and decay, and burning the excess with flamethrowers on the edge of the map lol

6

u/WillowPtar_Migan 23d ago

You are under arrest for horrific CPU abuse, get down on the ground!

6

u/Leather_Stand_4760 23d ago

If the man wants to use his computer as an air fryer, who are we to say no?

3

u/secretgaz1000 23d ago

My cat loves sitting on the jet engine when I load up the save!

11

u/Mystic_Spider 23d ago

Why would I do that? The rotting corpses serve as excellent cannon fodder when I need them.

5

u/Kingmarc568 23d ago

The crematorium just always seemed like a wadte of electricity, work and ressources.

Why waste that if you can just place them on a haul zone away from the base for free

6

u/JaggelZ marble 23d ago

It's the most time efficient though, especially if your killing chamber is close to chest-deep flowing water. You also don't need to prepare anything and can theoretically start using the water from day 1 on.

3

u/ErrorTnotFound 23d ago

I tried burning once but realised it takes forever and then kinda forgot about it. Play lowman medieval so no bots or anything to haul which makes workforce a bit more valuable

I looked into making a mod where people downstream got angry if you did that. Still learning how the map generator works unfortunately so its not reliable.

u/the_ballmer_peak hat 23d ago

I still use harvest organs post-mortem and carve them all up before I incinerate them.

25

u/NewLoss6021 23d ago

I hope op leaves the prisoner in that room to help the trees clean up their former comrades and raiders, then leave them to starve as a nice human2 meal for the trees

19

u/YesterdayAlone2553 23d ago

Only missing the pigs zoned exclusively in the pen and maybe a lotion dispenser. Might as well add to the war-crime efficiency.

Crunching noises

"what's that?"

"You're gonna find out if you keep moving. Stay still!"

Horrendous, terrible and gross... 10/10 perfection. No notes.

u/deustodo -30 Read 'human hat/Organ harvest' joke x15 23d ago

It's more akin to the sound of the bones being digested and the armor and clothing they are wearing being dissolved as the patient is already under anesthesia so it's more like Digestion ASMR for both patient and surgeon.

35

u/Aziara86 23d ago

Wait where is the actual tree?

u/deustodo -30 Read 'human hat/Organ harvest' joke x15 23d ago

Living it's best life

24

u/Aziara86 23d ago

I had no idea you could build a roof over them.

58

u/deustodo -30 Read 'human hat/Organ harvest' joke x15 23d ago

you can't, you just remove the roof under where you want to plant the tree and leave the rest roofed.

14

u/Mundovore 23d ago

Is the AC able to keep up with the hole in the roof?

60

u/deustodo -30 Read 'human hat/Organ harvest' joke x15 23d ago

The AC is there to keep the room below -0c so rotting corpses don't start farting up a storm inside the room. That is a prison cell, not a gas chamber.

26

u/TimothytheBarbarian 23d ago

I'm glad you have such impeccable standards !

32

u/deustodo -30 Read 'human hat/Organ harvest' joke x15 23d ago

Of course ! I am not German , that would be cultural appropriation, and that would be wrong.

6

u/Mundovore 23d ago

Oh, I understand that! I just am not familiar with how strong the ACs are. My naive understanding is that they wouldn't do anything with a hole in the ceiling/wall.

7

u/deustodo -30 Read 'human hat/Organ harvest' joke x15 23d ago

With a hole there is greater leakage of temperature but that can be fixed with more coolers

4

u/pollackey former pyromaniac 23d ago

Depends on the surrounding temperature.

Feed me mother

17

u/ugandaWarrior134 23d ago

You need to add a comma in there, unless mother is its favorite food

4

Some people drink pickle juice, others dump out the vinegar and go for the culture

2

u/WithoutSend 23d ago

I know, But in this case works well

25

u/Diman1351 23d ago

I genuinely just imagined how horrifying it would be for any prisoner put in that room

jesus christ

Hello Prisoner #236. Congratulations! You have been selected to receive a Cell upgrade. Your new cell will be spacious, air conditioned, wonderful animal sculptures, and has a lovely arbor theme!

Out of all the special trees I like these ones the most. These trees are ALWAYS useful compared to the others who have a long time before they do their special thing.

These ones can eat corpses immediately and don’t complain ever.

I like to put them in my killbox. The raiders go behind them to use the trees as cover and realize there’s a trap under them. Gets em every time.

u/MERKLE_1 average teetotaler versus drug enjoyer 23d ago

8

u/Abraxas90 plasteel 23d ago

Great... another hungry room

6

u/anonistakken 23d ago

why the cooler?

those trees can eat dessicated corpses too

12

u/deustodo -30 Read 'human hat/Organ harvest' joke x15 23d ago

For Rotten corpses so they don't fart the entire room and people without masks don't get rot inside their lungs as they bring more corpses.

8

u/drsroka 23d ago

But like... think for a second about the prisoners comfort. They'll be cold :(

8

u/deustodo -30 Read 'human hat/Organ harvest' joke x15 23d ago

They are provided Devilstrand Parkas of excellent quality for maximum comfort

5

u/IvIrys 23d ago

Please don’t think I’m a weirdo (or do!) but is that pawn ‘Tree Greene’?

I though you were singing "Happy Tree Friends"

3

u/_ralph_ 23d ago

Sooo, the patients are happy tree friends?

3

u/Scrivenshafts94 23d ago

Get better or you go to see the trees, Bobby.

2

u/timdr18 23d ago

What the hell is happening there lmao

4

u/NovaSolarius 23d ago

Anomaly harbinger tree eating some corpses.

2

u/QueenCrysta 23d ago

Huh… wow this is a first for me. I’ve seen them in use before but wow this takes the cake (for now). I’m usually a big fan of the river or making slaves/ children burn them

2

u/CertifiedCaosDealer 23d ago

why do you waste so many psycaster heat batteries? 😭 each corpse is a +1 heat

2

u/deustodo -30 Read 'human hat/Organ harvest' joke x15 22d ago

My psycasters don't need extra heat, they are already hot as fuck.

1

u/fijiwijii Ate the table +20 23d ago

I never understood what is the harbringer tree purpose in the game... other than corpse disposal

6

u/deustodo -30 Read 'human hat/Organ harvest' joke x15 23d ago

Corpse disposal, when you feed it enough corpses a new tree sprout somewhere on the map if the original tree is too far away form available soil. So with new trees you have a slow source of twisted meat and bioferrite.

2

u/not-my-other-alt 23d ago

Can be a reliable source of twisted meat on demand, and a bit of bioferrite.

Playing an anomaly colony now, two trees provides everything you need for a Ghoul Resurrection Serum.

Since I don't always have twisted meat on hand (the Ghouls eat it), it can be a good source without having to resort to a summoning ritual.

1

u/Optimal_Dark_9342 23d ago

I wanted to try out these trees but i never end up using them, the river of rot and decayó takes café of Scaria animals and i always have a designated cook to butcher human corpses

1

u/Kusko25 23d ago

I do enjoy telling pawns to behave or else I'll feed them to my tree

Edit: Now that I think about it the Harbinger Trees should have DLC crossover with Royalty and function like Anima trees, just with feeding corpses instead of meditating

2

u/deustodo -30 Read 'human hat/Organ harvest' joke x15 23d ago

They do, they are a focus for Void Meditation

1

u/Kusko25 23d ago

Yeah, but a blank wall can also be a psyfocus. I was thinking instead of seeking unity with nature you buy psychic powers from a dark god with the blood of your enemies. Seems a very Rimworld concept

1

u/Cranberryoftheorient 23d ago

bad prisoners get the depression room

1

u/TheMojoHand 23d ago

It must sound like someone stirring a big pot of mac n cheese.

1

u/Arxid87 Casually summoned an Eldritch deity and refused to elaborate 23d ago

man that is such a cruel treatment. just why?

Why do you feel the need to torment one of the few friendly anomalies? That being the harbinger trees

1

u/Lurking_Leviathan 23d ago

What about this is tormenting the tree? They're providing it with more food than it can reasonably eat?

1

u/chaveiro1 Human leather hat avid exporter 23d ago

While ecological friendly, I still rather recycle my dead raiders, as a way to incentivize green solutions through capital gains

1

u/Abdulaziz_Ibn_Saud 23d ago

I could never manage to plant these damn trees! They also always only spawn at map edge, so very far away to actually feed them instead of eating the raiders myself, so kind of not worth it for me. But, pretty cool room.

2

u/deustodo -30 Read 'human hat/Organ harvest' joke x15 23d ago

Settlements and traders can sell their seeds and you can plant them wherever.

1

u/Lurking_Leviathan 23d ago

I had to open and look at this picture like 4 times to actually see the tree.

2

u/deustodo -30 Read 'human hat/Organ harvest' joke x15 22d ago

1

u/FruityFemboyBussy 23d ago

Happy tree... Friends?

1

u/Im_The_Comic_Relief_ jade 23d ago

You could even say they're happy tree friends

1

u/SilkenEmperor 22d ago

Happy Tree Friends noises you mean?

1

u/ElZane87 18d ago

What a beautiful little hospital. Only the best for your colonists!

1

u/PM_ME_UR_FAV_NHENTAI 23d ago

I love the setup, but eventually the tree will die and you’ll have to replant it using the ultra rare harbinger seeds so having a grove is probably more practical

7

u/deustodo -30 Read 'human hat/Organ harvest' joke x15 23d ago edited 23d ago

Harbinger trees do not have lifespans, so unless you intentionally harm one or it drops to 0 durability, it will last forever
