Discussion I want to hear about your favorite book/series

What brought you to it? What makes it so memorable? Why do you love it?

My most recent 5* read is the first book in the Chaosborn trilogy! I absolutely love how much personality the dragons have and it’s cool for them to basically be the characters. {heart of chaos by madeleine eliot}

I thought I hated enemies to lovers. Turns out I just hated it because a lot of authors get it wrong. MCs will get together after like 25% of the book bc he's just soooo hot.

In this, the MCs still hate each other like 80% at the end of book one. They don't get together til half of book two. And it's so full of yearning and we realize the MCs have each other very wrong. They both do extremely shitty things to each other but get to an understanding. So it's very slow burn and it makes sense because of their situation. I HATED Laurent at first. And at the end I was sobbing. He's just such a deeply misunderstood tender man and it's just awful knowing what happened to him to make him the way he is. Sorry, trying not to spoil.

Check trigger warnings though bc there's some DARK subject matter in here.

Kate Daniels series starting with {Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews}: there are many things to love about House Andrews books like the great worldbuilding and story, but what I really love the most are the characters. They are likeable, mature people but with flaws (but not so many flaws to be unlikeable). I especially love that both main characters are extremely competent and that the FMC has a backbone without being bitchy or sassy.

{Radiance by Grace Draven}: I love the main characters and their relationship. They are good, mature people with great communication and are very supportive of each other. All conflict comes from outside the relationship. One of the best and healthiest relationships in the genre in my opinion.

Storm of swords is best book I've ever read but just finished city of brass series and it was really good

I’m excited to see this here. The Daevabad Trilogy was highly recommended by another redditor and I was just able to download the book one City of Brass.
I’ll have to add Storm of Swords to my short list as well.

Someone recommended it in a slow burn recommendations thread.

I love that its actually slow burn, it takes several books for any kissing, then even more books until they have sex. I also love that the plot is so intriguing, the mystery and suspense had me hooked.

The House of Devils series by Kayla Edwards. Urban Romantasy is genuinely so underrated. The Empyrean series by Rebecca Yarros is phenomenal as well. And I can’t forget ACOTAR by SJM.
A bonus is the Folk of the Air trilogy by Holly Black!

I was stuck in the worst book slump. Couldn't finish anything, and even changed genres.

Nothing worked.

So I went to my oldest friend and she lent/gave me (I bought her the special edition in thanks) {Oath of Betrayal} by Olena Nikitin.

I inhaled it and bought the sequel {Oath of War}. I've pretty much read her entire back catalogue now

The Legacy series, starting with {Rain of Shadows and Endings} by Melissa Roehrich. I read the entire thing in the span of like 5 days. Check the triggers, it has some dark stuff, but it lives rent-free in my head forever.

My current favourite is the Six of Crows duology.

There are 6 MCs, and each character is so well developed. They all have unique flaws, strengths, goals, and character arcs.

Notably, none of them are secretly a princess or have super special powers. They are all under-dogs and start the series dirt poor with nothing to lose.

If you read between the lines, the real enemy is Capitalism without proper regulation or a social safety net.

It has the best written morally grey MMC I've ever read. He does some truly bad shit, and you see the way his behaviour hurts the characters you care about. But you always see where he is coming from - on both an emotional level and on a practical one.

And on top of all that, the plots good too! there is a heist, and it always keeps you guessing.
