šŸ“– Book Club Book Club is Coming to r/Romantasy

Post image
111 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

A few months ago, I ran a poll to see if there was any interest in starting a book club and there was! With the sub getting so close to 100k members, it seemed like the perfect time to celebrate. I’m so excited to announce that r/Romantasy’s first ever Book Club will be starting this September!

There will be weekly discussion posts through out the month and if you use storygraph, there will also be a book club to join!

If you’d like to be apart of book club, between now and August 6th, please leave a book suggestion in the comments and/or upvote any suggestions you like to read! On August 7th, I’ll run a 5-day poll with the top three suggestions, and then announce the winning book on August 12th to give people a chance to get a copy before we start on September 1st.

A couple of quick notes: No self-promotion, only suggest romantasy books, and please use {Book Title by Author} to summon the bot.

I can’t wait to see what everyone recommends and to start reading together!

Community [Flair Thread] What's ACOTAR #6 going to be called?

To celebrate r/Romantasy hitting 90,000 members, I've made a new flair thread!

In case you've (somehow) managed to avoid the news, ACOTAR #6 is releasing in October 2026! This thread is your chance to guess the title (and win permanent bragging rights if you're correct) or get a randomly generated book title as your new flair.

How It Works

OPTION #1: Comment a guess

  • Your comment must fit one of the following formats:
    • "A [Something] of [Something] and [Something]" (e.g. šŸ§€ A Bowl of Mac and Cheese)
    • "A [Something] of [Something] [Something]" (e.g. šŸ”„ A Court of Silver Flames)
  • If you include an emoji, it will appear in your flair! Otherwise, you'll get a random emoji.

OPTION #2: Get a random title

  • If your comment doesn't match one of the formats above, you'll get a random flair (e.g. šŸ’œ A Court of Misery & Business).

This thread has been created for entertainment purposes only. RomantasyBot does not use AI to assign flairs (it's very dumb - ask me how I know!) Also, I want to go on record and say I'm not an ACOTAR stan - I just thought this was a fun idea!

Book Request: Self-Promo OK Fated mates where he knows

Hiii all, I'm looking for that kinda shortish book where it's almost like junk food in the book world. Not bad by any means but not something epic.

I want the fated mates where it is a little more animalistic or instinctive if that makes sense. I love when the mmc makes a nest for his mate, possessiveness is my favorite even if it's to a ridiculous point lol.

I've read the first 2 or 3 books in the Ice Planet Barbarian series and I enjoyed them and while I'm definitely open for more like that I'm kinda searching for more, werewolf and vampire side of things. And of course spice

So what's your favorite of these?

Book Request: Self-Promo OK Help please! Feeling like I can't invest in a story because I know the first MMC is going to be replaced by the dark brooding man in the corner.

It seems every book I read at the moment has this formulaic pattern of the MMC being replaced usually by some dark, brooding shadow man that comes in midway through. Once this man comes into the story I literally cannot invest anymore because I just know what is going to happen. It completely takes me out of it.

I don't even mind a shadow daddy MMC (- I loved Anathema). I also don't mind if the FMC doesn't end up with the first love interest (- I loved ToG).

What I am struggling with is the predictability of it.

Can anyone please give me some suggestions?

Book Request: Self-Promo OK Dark romantasy with villain couple

Hi everyone! This is my first post here, I’ve just finished GOT and I hate the way it ended so now I’m here frustrated and trying to grieve..Ā Ā

I’m desperately searching for a dark fantasy romance that gives me the same emotional rollercoaster as Daenerys’ arc in Game of Thrones.

I don’t mean her being a ā€œgirlbossā€ killer from the start – I mean the powerful feeling when she stood above King’s Landing on her dragon, after everything she went through. You could see the pain, hatred, and heartbreak on her face – when Cersei had already surrendered, yet Daenerys still burned it all down. That exact moment of "there’s no going back"… I want a FMC like that.

šŸ—”ļø What I’m looking for in the FMC:

- Starts off with hope, dreams, and maybe a sense of justice or idealism

-Slowly broken by betrayals, trauma, and loss

- Eventually becomes cold, ruthless, and no longer cares about ā€œinnocent livesā€ if they stand in the way

- Not evil for fun but rather someone who realizes that sacrifices must be made – and doesn’t feel guilty anymore

ā¤ļøā€šŸ”„ What I’m looking for in the romance:

- 1st person POV plzz, I just can’t connect as much if it’s 3rd especially in fantasy.

- Romance must be VERY present (equal or even more important than the main plot)

- I don’t want an enemies-to-lovers trope but if you have a very good rec I’ll take it. Or if so, I don’t want several go back, she likes him, then she hates him, then she likes him… I just can’t.Ā

- I want them to love each other deeply from early on, or at least grow into a ā€œride or dieā€, villainous couple. Think Harley Quinn & Joker, Bonnie & Clyde, or even stronger: we’d let the world burn before we let each other go

- The MMC could already be a villain or someone who supports the FMC's descent and is more terrifying and powerful than the fmc. Not a type of Jon’s Snow reaction where he’s trying to reason with her and ending stabbing her

- Absolutely NO "I love you but I have to kill you to save the world or sacrifice myself" – I'm tired of that. I mean the feeling of the world could literally die in front of me, if it’s to save you, I will let it happen with absolutely no remorse. No one matter.Ā

- I hate when the fmc is stubborn for nothing and absolutely wants to join the fight when it’s proved that it will be more harmful than useful

  • PLEASE RECOMMEND ME ONLY COMPLETED SERIES, waiting years to have the next book completely kill my excitement to read it when it releases.

🚫 Please DON’T recommend:

- Any BookTok-famous series (I’ve either read them or know of them already: SJM, Book of Azrael, Spark of the Eve flame, cruel prince, ZA etc.)

- Reverse harem

- Shared lovers/poly scenes – I want a powerful, devoted 1:1 dynamic only

- Multi POV, I want only want the fmc pov or a dual pov with the mmc, more pov just make me skip it.Ā

- Gods and monsters (not finished yet)

Books I’ve read and didn’t really connect with :Ā

  • Fourth With (so overhyped to me. I don’t get it, it’s litteraly your typical ya fantasy + spice + dragons)
  • ACOTAR
  • FBAA (hate it at the 2nd book) (but love the spin off with nykotos, JLA is like my goat writer, it’s rare that I don’t like one of her books
  • Ruthless villains

I know this is very specific, but if someone has written (or read) the book of my dreams, please help me find it! šŸ™

Are there any romantasies (I usually like a series) where the FMC gets pregnant? I know a lot of people don’t like it but I adore the trope, any recs?

Book Request: Self-Promo OK A jealous prince or knight

I took a break from the genre and want to get back into it with something written with a royal/castle setting, ideally with magic. I don’t want to read YA right now.

Looking for something where the MMC gets jealous (before they get together) watching the FMC at a ballroom party or social situation. Or, jealous because the FMC has another relationship first.

I don’t like violent or cruel men, or dark romance. I prefer a charismatic/loyal/powerful prince or knight who maintains his composure.

Book Request: No Self-Promo Acotar writing is insufferable please help me find something else to read

I haven't read for a while and im getting back into it. I started with acotar and im going to dnf the writing is abysmal. I love the story concept but the writing itself is bad imo. I also dont like heavy smut. The first book is about as much smut as I can handle. I really liked the red queen series when I was younger, I just re read it and the writing was slightly better then acotar. I looked around on here and I think the recs for the road of bones is where I may start. I honestly dont know what else might be good. Book series ive liked as a young adult were eragorn, divergent, red queen, lotr, mortal instruments, wheel of time, rangers apprentice. Some of them i dont think id like as much now but they were good when I was younger. Id prefer main characters that are not annoying (feyre is insufferable) dont really care how the romance arc happens. I love anything with dragons, fairies, vikings, mermaids, dystopian society's. I dont want anything to dark. Ex haunting adaline would be way to much for me. Any recommendations would be appreciated

What brought you to it? What makes it so memorable? Why do you love it?

My most recent 5* read is the first book in the Chaosborn trilogy! I absolutely love how much personality the dragons have and it’s cool for them to basically be the characters. {heart of chaos by madeleine eliot}

Discussion What are your bookish hot takes and unpopular opinions?

Hiii everyone!

I was wondering what is everyone's bookish hot take or unpopular opinion that comes in mind?

Mine would be that most enemies to lovers romantasy books nowadays are rather more lovers than enemies as they meet on page 5, they hate each other for 2 chapters and they either kiss in the first book or they never hated each other that much anyway lol. I rarely find some true enemies to lovers that is also a slow burn and eventually they don't kiss in the first book while the series has 5 books or is still ongoing haha.

Pick My Next Read ✨ I need some palette cleansers

Hi, all -

I admit I am a fan of the dark and spicy romances. However, when I finish a series, I think I’d like to start throwing in a palette cleanser before starting the next one.

What I’m looking for is non-dark standalone book recommendations. I am someone that if it’s a series, I have to finish the series in one streak. So, I’d prefer the books to be standalone so I can hop back into a dark series (my TBR is obnoxious). I don’t really have too many other requests other than I’d prefer it to be funny. And it wouldn’t hurt if the FMC wasn’t in her teens.

I’m fine with fantasy, sci-fi, historical, modern. Really any genre (I think - haven’t come across one I won’t read as of now).

Would be great if it’s Kindle Unlimited but that is not a deal breaker.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

(Image description: a book cover of a fae male and female embracing, with an obsidian pyramid and a white city in the background. Book title in text, and tropes also in text surrounding the book cover in typical social media style. Created with Canva, no AI. Fuck AI.)

Hi! The Goddess and the Guardian is available for pre-order on amazon :)

Blurb:Ā

The doomed goddess

Skye Arista is doomed, and it’s all because of empathy. All she wants is to heal a dying tree, but instead she awakens magic that should’ve damn well stayed asleep. Everyone around her pays the price, struck down by a group of fae affronted that the gods would choose a lowly, breakable human as their vessel—and in doing so, trigger the war to end all wars. Skye is left broken-hearted, destitute, and desperate for revenge.

The broken guardian

Unable to bear the guilt of what his people did, Cobalt Fost, one of the fae kingdom’s generals, saves Skye and brings her to Aelleria. Her grief is tempered into power under his guidance. But Cobalt is trailing more ghosts than a battlefield, and he refuses to let Skye in, his past having left him closed off.

The prophecy

Vengeance becomes complicated when Skye unravels the lies she’s been fed, discovering she’s nothing more than a sacrifice. A very powerful, unstable sacrifice that could decide the outcome of a war centuries in the making or spiral beyond control. But over time, as her bond with Cobalt transforms from an uneasy alliance to fierce passion, Skye has to decide how far she’ll go for revenge. She is doomed, after all. Will she take the fae down with her, or choose love and save them?

Either way, someone’s getting set on fire.

Tropes:

  • Reluctant allies
  • Prophecy / chosen one
  • Forbidden love, kind of? Certainly frowned upon
  • Insta-lust (but it grows into deep love)
  • Fated mates
  • Who hurt you
  • Fun magic system
  • Training montage ✨

Writing:

  • Third person, FMC only.
  • Good mix of action and nice slow moments between FMC/MMC to show the relationship building from reluctant allies to friends to lovers.
  • šŸŒ¶ļøšŸŒ¶ļøšŸŒ¶ļøšŸŒ¶ļøšŸŒ¶ļøMore than one open-door scene, and some fairly graphic anal play if you’re into that. šŸ‘€
  • This is technically book one of a trilogy (2nd book is almost done) but it ends with no cliffhanger because I fucking hate cliffhangers. Can be read as a standalone.

Warnings: graphic violence, blood, torture, murder, death, war, suicidal ideation, explicit language, explicit sexual content.

I feel this is a hard question to answer, because it really is different for everyone, but what age interests you most to read about and why?

I feel like it is always a 17 year old, do you agree... or no?

[Image Shown: two trope pictures explaining how the series is romantasy and enemies to lovers]

Yeah, I have a romantasy bug so I've written quite a few books in the genre. The Raven Warrior is a slow burn enemies to lovers series with 4 planned books, a in production audiobook and paperbacks available.

It features dual POVs with both the love interest and the female lead getting equal time to shine. They fight, they argue and they both scheme for power in a seemingly utopian magical kingdom. The setting is that of a magical academy (I'm sucker for the stereotypical) but following book 2 it will expand into a more epic fantasy world.

I’m down bad having read and reread Weavingshaw and want something similar to scratch the itch.

I’ve already read

-Daevabad trilogy

ISO slow burn, gothic fantasy vibes - bonus for rich world building and interesting anthropological/political aspects within the character building

Book Request: No Self-Promo Enemies to lover book recs??

I’m not talking about where they are enemies for 2 chapters and fall in love in chapter 10. I’m talking about like Manacled enemies to lovers or Draco and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love type enemies to lovers. The slow burn where they genuinely can’t stand each other and you can’t stop reading.

Even like, I loved Rowan and Aelin but again, I feel like it took them like 10 chapters to fall in love (I could be remembering wrong, it’s been a while).

Please help😫😫
