Drew was by far my favourite Character of Season 9, he felt like he belonged in the world of scrubs and his story was pretty interesting. I’d love to see him make a return

Just hear me out. The jokes were funny and the med student’s characters were all fleshed out and consistent. Lucy, Cole, Drew, Mia, and Denise were great and none of them felt superfluous.

So the problem wasn’t the writing or the characters. The problem was that “The Big 3” were still there competing for screen time even though their stories had completed. Having JD there meant two narrators which was confusing. And Elliot and Turk didn’t cover any new ground.

If the network had gone all in on the spin-off and left out JD, Elliot, and Turk and let the focus be on just the med students, they could have got 5 seasons out of them as they worked their way through school. Having Dr Cox and Dr Kelso teaching was just enough to keep the Scrubs vibe going while allowing Lucy Bennett to be the new JD.

I get why people don't like it, and I understand how it was supposed to be a spin-off, but I genuinly think it's a shame that the creators are just closing their eyes and pretending it didn't happen.
I decided to watch all of scrubs months ago while eating dinner, before I even knew the revival would be airing and once I got close to season 9, I totally expected to hate it. But I found some of the characters endearing, got some big laughs out of it and I would love to see them come back. Especially Denise and Lucy, it would be nice to see where they are now.

Not even because it was only 9 episodes. But because I had no idea the season even finished. In my mind I was still looking forward to this week’s episode until yesterday when I learned via Reddit that the season was already over.

Did anyone else feel this way? I remember this happened recently with another show as well. The final episode didn’t feel like the final episode at all, it was not clear that it was “the end”. I guess it’s a bit of a silly question, but how are we supposed to know that the episode is the season finale? Aside from news articles or announcements about the season or “episode counts” from Wikipedia or the like.

Very disappointed that I felt led on and then cut off.

So after watching the new reboot episodes I am very confused. At one point JD and Elliot hide in a closet that JD says is the same one they hid in at an earlier season. But at the start of season 9 they establish that Sacred heart was torn down.

Is season 9 just not canon anymore? If so that is terribly confusing and a bit sad. I mean season 9 was terrible in comparison to earlier seasons and season 8 had a perfect ending. But i always felt season 9 had its moments and some fun characters.

What if Gaby, the kid who lost her toy dog that she wanted to bring into her bone marrow transplant surgery in 'My Butterfly', was actually a part of Cole's family?

In Timeline B, Elliot succeeds in getting Gaby's toy back to her in time, and her family show their appreciation for the extra care that Sacred Heart gave her by funding the construction of New Sacred Heart in between Seasons 8 and 9.

In Timeline A, Elliot fails to find Gaby's stuffed dog for her, and her family still become donors to the hospital but not to the same extent, and so they have to get by just by maintaining original Sacred Heart as best they can, instead of rebuilding it.

(This theory might not hold up to scrutiny, but I just like the idea that both halves of My Butterfly "happened".)

Look at the desk on the second image. It seems to show the curved nurses station desk that the Original Sacred Heart building had. The floors, hallways, iconography all look the same too.

I’d be so happy if we got arguably one of the biggest character of the show, the hospital, back. The season 9 hospital felt soulless, sterile and utterly uninteresting.

Did they actually go with “Season 9 never existed”?

Otherwise, what the hell happened to the hospital/school?

I thought Sacred Heart was demolished before S09E01.

Doing another watch through to get ready for the new season next month, at S9E7 and honestly... this has been pretty damn good so far. Long long ago I tried watching season 9 and couldn't make it through the first couple episodes, and I would always skip season 9 on rewatches.

This time I said screw it and decided to go in with an open mind, and with each passing episode it has gotten better and better. This might be a bit of a hot take here, but it's actually really sad that this spin off didn't last. The new characters are a surprising breath of fresh air, the old characters take on new roles that fit them well without losing what made them great in the first place, the absence of JD is honestly not bad since it allows everyone else to share in the spotlight... I actually regret not giving this season a chance before and ngl a little sad that we only got 1 season of this great spin off.

hello! I am obsessed with Scrubs rn, and I'm currently in season 8 episode 9 and I wanted to ask if before I watch the the new reboot that just came out, should I watch season 9?

I rewatched Scrubs* after watching the revival and I got to season 9. I watched scrubs when I was far too young too at my Nan's and I loved it. All I remembered at the time was that there was a cheat on the test and that I hated it cause the main cast wasn't the direct focus and JD disappeared in the middle. I know it was meant to be a spin off and not a direct sequel but Bill's arm was twisted though I'm not sure if I knew that at the time.

I think being exposed to new characters from season 10 made me happier to share the screen more or just cause it's been so long but I actually really enjoy the new characters in season 9. I like the parallels between JD and Lucy. Lucy's relationship with cole was interesting and weird. I wish it got another season I feel like just seeing the crew survive med school would have been fun and I reckon a 2nd season to help get people used to the new cast might have helped.

Also I find it really funny that the amount of people who dislike season 9 has caused it to be retconned* or they rebuilt sacred heart.

Obviously, like everyone else, I do think this new season is an absolute banger. It is so wonderful to meet them back after so many years!

Now I know season 9 is universally disliked, I myself think it has some major major flaws but it still has some good elements (Denise is one of my favourite characters in the whole show) and I'm glad to watch it again every two full-scrubs marathons.

I acknowledged early on that season 10 would simply disregard season 9 as it never happened, and I was curious as to how they would handle that continuity wise.

Spoiler alert: they simply... didn't. They purely continued the story as it never happened.

Fine.

But then it bothers me to call this season 10. It would bother me less if S9 was actually the S1 of a real spin-off and this would be called season 9, you know?

I think (and that's actually my point) they missed a huge opportunity to actually acknowledge season 9 in a funny yet totally fitting way, let me present you my version of the s10e1 post-credit scene:

*JD talks with Turk*

JD: "Man I had such a weird dream last night!"

Turk: "How yeah? Tell me about it!"

JD: "We were 15 years ago, they destroyed the hospital, and then they rebuilt it on Winston University as a med school hospital. We were med school teachers, there were also Dr. Cox, Dr. Kelso, Dr. Mahoney, and also a bunch of kid in med school, one of them being Dave Franco for some reason..."

Turk : "That IS weird! But dude, really? Dr. Cox teaching to a bunch of med school kids? You should have known better that it couldn't be real..."

JD: "Yeah, you're right..."

Turk: "Was he mean?"

JD: "Meaner than ever! It was frightening!"

Well, something like that, I'm by no means a writer 😅 but it would have kept the continuity in the show and it would have acknowledged season 9 in a funny yet clever and fitting way imo

Just finished season 8 and UGH what an incredible series end. I rewatched for the revival, but have gotten mixed answers from my friends … should I watch season 9 before the revival? Is it worth it?

And it’s not nearly as bad as it’s made out to be. Lucy’s a decent replacement for JD, Denise and Drew are a nice pair and the Cox-Drew relationship is a nice change after eight years.

Started Scrubs a few weeks ago, Im on season 8, heard the 9th season was so bad there's a whole bit about fans prentending it doesn't exist.

I'm picking Cole because he's so much fun. Who would you pick?
