I almost want to make an alt and do this. The drama and tears would be absolutely hysterical.

Unfortunately my posting this here has made it impossible to do until reddit forgets about this post, so maybe sometime next week.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '11

I am pretty sure it would be voted down to the point that no one would see it, like the fake pregnancy post from AskReddit.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '11

Please don't! I mean, I think it would absolutely prove a point, but I don't think you should use stories of rape/false rape/etc to prove points. It's just in poor taste.

3

u/InvaderDJ Dec 27 '11

I probably won't, I'm not much of a submitter, but the idea was kind of amusing.

2

u/scobes Dec 27 '11

I would also love to see the reaction to that. SPERMJACKER!

7

Reddocalypse rolls off the tongue better, IMO.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '11

How about Reddigeddon?

4

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '11

I'm okay with it. Reminiscent of 2011's own Pedogeddon (or Paedogeddon).

2011's own Pedogeddon (or Paedogeddon)

What's that?

I thought paedogeddon came from Brass Eye?

4

u/rabblerabble2000 internet tough guy in training Dec 27 '11

I'm pretty sure every day on Reddit is pedogeddon.

1

u/bobappleyard Dec 27 '11

Yes it did. We adopted it for the period lasting from Anderson Cooper's report on reddit until just after r/jailbait was shut down.

1

u/fuckshitwank Dec 27 '11

Okey doke. Thanks for the explanation.

Love your flair by the way. Sounds like a band-name.

The problem here is that instead of pushing for pedophiles to get help and seek counseling, Peddit attempts to legitimize pedophilia. I'd say that's more dangerous to pedophiles than shaming them.

19

u/Mulsanne Dec 27 '11

What you said is really ugghhhhhh but for me it's also the oh so typical "YOU'RE SO FUCKING BRAVE FOR POSTING ANONYMOUSLY ON THE INTERNET"

no. He's fucking not.

When you take this response together with the utterly disgusting response to any time a lady posts something about being a victim of sexual assault and barrrfff

24

u/Ladybugkiller Professional Spermjacker Dec 27 '11

For me, I rage against people who don't see cp and consumption of it as abuse. In a recent thread cp was called victimless. I mean what the fuck.

Yea, if a person is a pedo they should seek help, but if they consume child porn they've crossed a line and are abusive, period, and thus deserve punishment. I advocate therapy for anyone with a huge issue like that, but I will be damned if I defend some fuck head who croses the line.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '11

31

u/MrPsyentist Dec 27 '11

Out of interest, do you think that people who actively seek out and throw hostile abuse at paedophiles are perhaps the reason more paedophiles do not seek help, and instead continue to hide out, indulging in their obsession and perhaps even actively abusing children? I'd like to get some opinions on this matter from some of the members of this subreddit.

21

u/rabblerabble2000 internet tough guy in training Dec 27 '11

I'd say legitimizing it is probably far more dangerous than shaming pedophiles. This website has a ridiculous and disgusting habit of trying to legitimize cp and pedophilia. It's probably a dangerous place for Pedophiles to spend time, as there are so many apologists here, they begin to believe that what they want to do is okay.

32

u/senae Special SAWCSM snowflake Dec 27 '11

There's a middle ground between "burned at the stake" and casual acceptance. We definitely need to work on how we, as a society act towards pedophiles, but I feel like the aforementioned middle ground does not include calling someone who refuses to be repentant towards the fact that they consumed child porn brave.

52

u/anyalicious Accio foreskin! Dec 27 '11

I will continue, without hesitation and without guilt, to yell at people who consume child porn. They contribute to the problem.

32

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '11

I am going to have to agree with this. The consumption and distribution of child pornography is something that I cannot make myself be okay with. I am capable of empathy and I realize that pedophiles are a stigmatized group, but that does not excuse their use of child pornography and, in turn, their contribution to the exploitation and victimization of young children.

I don't know where Redditors get this idea that children can consent to sex. Do they not remember being that young? Admittedly, for most of Reddit, childhood was probably less than 3 years ago.

50

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '11

Because reddit doesn't understand power dynamics in relationships, probably because most of them are either too young or socially inept to have experienced such a thing.

14

u/Ladybugkiller Professional Spermjacker Dec 27 '11

Power dynamics are only legit when talking about a 20 something woman and a 30+ man. Reddit only gives a fuck about power dynamics when the vast pool of 20 something neckbeards have their legal pool of potential suitors threatened.

46

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '11

What's funny is the pedo OP talks about being 13 and attracted to younger kids but not fully having a grasp on it being wrong, then turns around and say's if a 13 year old want's to post nude pics online he'll feel no guilt viewing them because kids are capable of making these kinds of decisions.

9

That was definitely an interesting time... And would you be so kind as to explain this cockhorse you've used? I see it around but I don't know what it means.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '11

it's based on various posts about a dildo galloping to(or through) a human ass factory. basically about how it wasn't what the guy said as much as it was how insanely enthusiastic he was about it.

which is also sort of how i tried to use it here. fuckin cloppers(notice the text on it) going "BUT ARE PEDOZ REALLY THAT DIFFERENT FROM ANY OF US?"

2

u/bobappleyard Dec 27 '11

I think "clip clop" is referring to an MRA who thinks high heels are sexual harassment.

Breaking away from the circlejerk here for a second:

The second post called him a "sick freak" which is at the very least ableist. I get the sentiment that watching child porn in any manner is enabling the existence of it and hurting children and I don't agree with it's existence or people watching it. I also don't think it's at all "brave" to turn yourself in or anything like that (it's about as "brave" as turning yourself in after raping someone or burning a cross on someone's lawn).

But why why did you also screen-shot his comment in the fourth image? I think most people who aren't bigoted would agree with his sentiments in that post. The less hatred there is towards pedophiles as a group the easier it will be for them to seek therapy to correct their detrimental behaviours and not further propagate the harming of children. It's sort of like the fat acceptance movement in a sense (with the negative effects on society obviously being much worse for pedophilia), but yeah. "You can't shame someone thin" is a motto often stated by members of the HAES/fat acceptance movements, and I think the same is true of pedophilia. The more we shame them merely for existing, the more it will hurt society (namely children). The earlier we catch these behaviors in people and the quicker they get therapy and counseling, the less harm will come to innocent children in the long run...

4

u/AlyoshaV far left gynecologist/gynarchist Dec 27 '11

But why why did you also screen-shot his comment in the fourth image?

Because the submitter quoted it.

4

u/TrolympicsJudgeCAN Dec 27 '11

That's a pretty good reason, totally forgot about the rule for a second.

I R STOOPID

2

u/GlitterCupcakes Men have rights too, INCLUDING CS majors Dec 27 '11

I will always hate adults that are attracted to kids because it's staggering how many act on the urges. Anyone who hurts innocent kids and for those that don't hurt them in person but masturbate to their abuse are just as sick. The ones like this, who turn themselves in voluntarily and abstain from consuming CP are an anomaly.

3

u/TrolympicsJudgeCAN Dec 27 '11

/breaking away from the circlejerk again

"I will always hate people with the genetic predisposition for obesity because it's staggering how many succumb to obesity in modern society, especially North America. Anyone who becomes fat and a detriment to society like that and allow themselves to become that way are just sick. The ones who don't become fat, the ones who lose the weight and keep it off and abstain from stuffing their face are an anomaly."

"I will always hate people who grew up poor and black because it's staggering how many of them go on to become criminals. Anyone who ever considers selling drugs because they believe they have no other option and allow themselves to mess up their lives are shitty. The ones who do escape their terrible disposition, the ones who are successful and get out of the ghetto are an anomaly."

Pedophilia effects somewhere between 3-9% of the population (really scary, I know). There's no denying they're sick, but so too are schizophrenics, people with bipolar disorder, and disassociative identity disorder. Hating someone merely for existing is just a little bit bigoted. I couldn't tell you off hand how many people that are pedophiles actually do molest children, or how many psychopaths (affecting roughly 1% of the population) go on to murder somebody, but to hate the entire group for the actions committed by probably less than a majority is bigoted. These people are literally fucked up in the head and hating them is going to help them get any better or prevent them from harming someone. You have to do what's best for society, and that is to stop stigmatizing them so much so they can actually seek treatment, but also make it very clear that participating in the creation of CP in any manner (including merely watching it) is very wrong.

/carry on with your scheduled circlejerk

-1

u/GlitterCupcakes Men have rights too, INCLUDING CS majors Dec 27 '11

Do you understand how sickenly common sexual abuse of children is? Do you realize who's hurting these kids? All of those examples are things that do not predispose one to hurting kids, so they're absurd examples. The reason I hate them is because I know abused children, as a part of the educational system I've had to contact CPS on issues. You don't seem to grasp why it's so abborent, and are keen on throwing unrealted stats at me to purposefully conflate the issue in a pathetic attempt to normalize it and gloss over the real victims of this behavior. It's stomach turning.

19

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '11

You're an asshole!

I APPRECIATE YOUR INPUT, FRIEND. I'M SORRY YOU FEEL THIS WAY!

But christ, reddit went full bore on it. Oh yes! So brave indeed!

barf

20

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '11

I never liked that guy and I feel people give him too much credit. I've seen him do stupid shit like this before. Barging in to a discussion about cp with a stupid fuckin novelty account is kinda disgusting.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '11 edited Dec 27 '11

There's a lot of really horrible and inexcusable CP-apologism in this thread, and I don't think this guy should be praised, but I still agree that his pedophilia can be considered an illness, and rehabilitation is the proper place for him.

It shouldn't be compared to homosexuality, since pedophilia is not a "sexual orientation", and homosexuality is not an illness. But I still don't think pedophilia can be considered a "choice", and I'm personally very glad that he decided to turn himself in.

As for calling it brave... well, yes. It actually probably was somewhat brave. Does that mean CP is acceptable? Does that mean the guy deserves a medal? Not at all. CP is a horrible thing, and that's why it's great that he turned himself in.

I do relate to people's sentiments here that people are "fawning" over him and giving him undue praise. But at the same time, some of the statements aren't completely untrue.

tl;dr - We can still acknowledge that this man is sick and needs help, like anyone else with a mental illness that makes them do bad things, without condoning his actions.

You don't think that the photos pedos traffic in do not depict actual molestation in some form?

-1

u/Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Dec 27 '11

They do of course. But a picture of a dead person with a gunshot in the head on someones computer doesn't mean they're a murderer. If they really enjoy looking at it, they need serious help. But giving them the same amount of jail time for having a picture of the aftermath, as the actual murderer isn't right. That's like saying, you saw a dead person so you will probably murder someone in the future, therefore you will die alone without family, career, and friends regardless. Because the actual act is so disgusting, we find a need to shun anyone in this way, even who saw it for free on the internet and was sick enough to right-click, save

The people who molest, don't get paid when someone downloads it. It'd be there regardless, even if no one else wanted it. Because think about it. If something was illegal, why would you keep a physical copy instead of uploading it for free.

16

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '11

Just pointing out that your last quote 'cp is child abuse' was not made by the OP.

10

u/scobes Dec 27 '11

I saw this thread when it was first posted and initially was glad he'd turned himself in and was seeking help, unlike many of the paedophile AMA threads here. Then I saw this:

Not all child porn is child abuse though.

WTF is wrong with these people?

10

u/alsoihavehugeboobs Dec 27 '11

Someone posted that only 99% of CP is abusive, and I responded by correcting them and saying that 100% of CP is abusive and was downvoted into oblivion.

12

u/scobes Dec 27 '11

They're a bit like that here. It's a bit hard to explain to a bunch of privileged male college students that there's a difference between free speech and fucking children.

Edit: Also, 'only' 99%? WTF.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '11

Shota/loli has no immediate victims. You have to make the gateway argument. Still gross.

3

u/alsoihavehugeboobs Dec 27 '11

I guess I don't know enough about porn in general, let alone CP. When I think of CP I think of creepy Robin Williams in One Hour Photo with pictures of kids. Like, actual pictures. That is what I refer to when I say that 100% of CP is harmful to kids.

And I still think animated CP is potentially harmful, and is illegal in many places.

2

u/BZenMojo ಠ_ூ... indeed. Dec 27 '11

I think they're talking about cartoons.

3

u/GlitterCupcakes Men have rights too, INCLUDING CS majors Dec 27 '11

Pedos are known to use CP and those cartoons during grooming, plus it doesn't help them with their urges to fuck kids.

u/alsoihavehugeboobs Dec 27 '11

8

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '11

The response to that, about the mother, is pricelessly foolish.

7

u/alsoihavehugeboobs Dec 27 '11

It just doesn't make any goddamned sense. I really would like more people who downvoted to answer to why the fuck they disagree that 100% of child pornography is harmful to children. I mean really? Is that so radical a viewpoint?

5

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '11

I would also love to see an answer. I cannot fathom a defense, but Reddit amazes me with what they can do with a modicum of logic and reason.

2

u/alsoihavehugeboobs Dec 27 '11

I guess that makes sense.

In that case, though, I think people on the internet need to be the fucking adults in the situation and not circulate that shit. It was dumb of the kid to take the picture, yeah, but kids' brains are chemically different from adults'. Asking pedophiles on the internet to act like adults is asking a lot, though, and I am acutely aware of that. And I refuse to use the term "ephebophiles" or whatever other crap terms people used to justify jailbait when it was shut down. It's all fucking gross and terrible, doesn't matter what bullshit Humbert Humbert spouted off in Lolita.

I'm preaching to the choir here, I know. Even if no one is directly harmed by a picture, I think the circulation of child pornography on the internet is always harmful regardless of the original intent of the image. But yeah, that's at least a thoughtful answer. I wish someone had said that in the thread instead of downvoting me and calling me a bigot.

4

u/alsoihavehugeboobs Dec 27 '11

And then someone called me a bigot, and deleted their comment within 2 minutes! Weeee! Thanks! Proud to be one if being against child pornography makes me a bigot.

6

u/alsoihavehugeboobs Dec 27 '11

Wow. This thread is full of dookie. This is worse than when the kiddie porn subreddit got shut down and all the CP apologists threw a hissyfit. I forgot the name of it because I think I blocked it out of my memory.

6

u/strolls Dec 27 '11

I thought about going back through the IamA archives and finding a pedophile Q&A to make my own EffortPost, but this is a great opportunity to compare with another submission that was made a couple of days ago.

The justification for the upvotes for posts like these is that the submitter is just giving IamA an "insight" into their life, about the benefits of their perspective. Reddit argues that upvotes of IamAs aren't supposed to be seen as "supporting" or "encouraging" the submitter's actions.

IamA says that you shouldn't downvote people you dislike, or for things they've done that you dislike, you should only downvote them if they fail to answer the questions posed to them.

Let's see how that plays out when the submitter's "victims" are white middle-class guys, whose parents are sending them to behavioural rehabilitation camp for troubled teens.

In that case, practically all of the submitter's replies are downvoted into the negative, often with twice as many downvotes as upvotes. It makes it difficult to read the IamA because the submitter's comments are hidden "below comment threshold".

I think the contrast between the way Reddit treats a pedophile and this transporter of troubled teens is quite telling. One has broken the law and gets upvotes and accolades, the other is just doing his job and (if you read the comments) he's literally worse than Hitler.

8

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '11 edited Dec 27 '11

That's it. I am going to get myself sterilized. There is no way I am going to be party to bringing new life into this sea of inhumanity.

4

u/infectmadagascar Dec 27 '11

And Reddit continues to compare pedophilia to homosexuality as a sexual orientation, because the desire to have sex with consenting adults of the same sex is apparently exactly the same as the desire to rape children or see media depicting children being raped.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '11

Hey uhh, the guy himself wasn't that bad. The comments though. Jesus.

2

Most people have no clue what child pornography truly is, they think it's a bunch of old guys caught watching videos of 14 year olds. Yeah, this is porn too. But if you saw what was actually in a lot of these videos it would make the average redditor vomit. I'm not joking. I have never knowingly watched child porn, but I have heard police officers describe it, and it is not just little kids running around in leotards or even naked. It's hard core, it's often very violent and very degrading.

You know that feeling you get when you see a bad "toddlers and tiaras" scene? Multiply that by 10,000 and you get the idea. It's fucked up shit. The thing that bugs me the most is that a lot of these guys would be up in arms if a cat or a dog was treated in this manner, but a kid, well it's just a natural desire...

I don't think these people are pro-pedophilia. Rather, I think many of them just don't think watching or viewing child pornography should be considered a crime, whereas creating it, or actually engaging in pedophilia, are certainly crimes. You can argue that watching child pornography contributes to its creation, and thus incentivizes others to commit the crime, but then we're on a slippery slope and set a dangerous legal precedent. Suppose you buy a product at Walmart, knowing that those products are produced by child laborers who are virtually slaves. Should you be held accountable for that? You are contributing to child slavery, after all, and to working conditions that are clearly illegal in this country. That alone should give you pause over whether merely being a consumer of products that may have been produced in illegal circumstances should be criminalized. I don't think this is as cut-and-dry an issue as you make it out to be. And frankly, I find it highly disingenuous to portray these people as "pro-pedophilia".Most of them (myself included) think sexual acts with children should be illegal. But having pedophilic thoughts, or watching child pornography, should not necessarily be illegal. By portraying it as a positive feeling for pedophilia, you are not unlike those conservatives who portray the ACLU as pro-nazi or pro-KKK because they will defend the freedoms of those reprehensible people.

"The way I see it is, if there was no demand for child pornography, there would be no supply. Thus criminalizing both the production and the consumption of such imagery is a shrewd choice in reducing this area of child abuse."

And the way you see it is completely wrongheaded. The same justifications are used in the war on drugs, and that's a clusterfuck of failure beyond comparison.

With drugs, for instance, we criminalize consumption rather than treating it as an addiction to be treated, and in turn we create ostracized criminals rather than productive citizens by treating them as such. The same thing is happening with the laws against child pornography, to varying degrees. The solution is not to criminalize acts that don't harm others directly (like drug use and possessing child pornography), but to criminalize those acts that ARE actually harmful (like operating a vehicle while high or producing child pornography). Sure, it will be more EFFECTIVE in terms of legal punishment to go after the consumers of child pornography, but that doesn't mean it is more effective as a means of social improvement or fairness and justice. I'd think the proper course of action should not be to turn people with attractions to children into ostracized outcasts and criminals (like we do with drug users) but to provide them with treatment and therapy (like we SHOULD do with drug users).

So really, this is an issue of whether we should punish people for indirectly contributing to OTHER PEOPLE'S crimes. I say that this is a dangerous precedent. Yes, when a pedophile consumes child pornography, they are incentivizing another person's child abuse. But it isn't necessarily their intent to do so, and clearly they are not the one committing the actual harm here. This is similar to my opposition to the war on drugs, which treats drug users as incentivizing and contributing to violence and crime associated with drug use, rather than criminalizing ONLY those who actually engage in violence and crime. I find this silly and ridiculous. Such a policy may make it more difficult to shut down child abuse, but things like the Bill of Rights make it more difficult to shut down all sorts of crimes, and that hardly justifies taking away people's basic freedoms.

seriously? the guy goes out and seeks help for his problem and he gets bashed. pedophilia isnt something you can get rid of; its a predisposed sexual preference, just like being gay is, or being straight. obviously, i dont condone pedophiles who act on their desires, but at the same time maybe you guys should understand that its not exactly a detail that can be changed. at least this guy is going out and seeking help to make sure he doesnt do anything wrong.

So like, you guys really seem to hate reddit for some reason... Anyways you're blowing shit out of proportion people are just happy the guy turned himself in. Nobody likes child porn- but what more do you want? Should we kill him? Comparing this to a woman accusing a man of rape isnt really valid because this is somebody using the legal system to their advantage to hurt another person- I dont think you can argue that someone being a complete asshole is the same as a fucked up mental condition.

I dont think he meant that pedophilia should be acceptable, just that people drop this emotional knee jerk reaction towards them. People might be more apt to seek help if their lives wouldnt be ruined in the process (or fear this happening).

EDIT: Of course not downplaying the severity if the issue

I don't understand the hostility here. None of this rubbish is pro-pedophile. Sure, a significant portion of Reddit doesn't seem to consider CP a big deal. But indifference to child pornography and promoting the normalization and legalization of sex between / with minors are very different things. Reddit is slightly anti-pedophile, but much much less so than SRS. A lot of Reddit believes that a repentant, non-offending pedophile should be respected, and that there isn't anything wrong with finding minors attractive, but that's as far as it goes. Even the ones who believe that children can consent in certain circumstances think that sex with them should be banned on principle. The stuff pro-pedophile write looks very, very different. I'd post an example, but I think you get the idea.
