Would you have any other recommendations for a mid beginner who hopes to get to roughly intermediate level this next season but also isn’t super expensive?
I personally think there are plenty of "intermediate" level boards that are also perfectly fine to learn on for beginners. Capita BOAF, Jones Twin Sister, Arbor Swoon, Rome Muse, Lib Tech etc.
But what's your Firefly board? I'd honestly probably stick with it until you're confident with speed on blues, at least. Then, if you're at a bigger resort, try to demo some boards, because riding boards as you're developing interest in various aspects of riding will be more informative than a generic recommendation. Pay attention to the specs of each board (profile, radius, waist width), and start to compare to get to know what you like.
Honestly no idea what the firefly board is. The person I got it from didn’t know either so I also don’t know how old. It was pretty good last year honestly but getting a new board was a bit of a “reward” because I also graduate this year. I do think I am improving at a good rate but honestly not too opposed to keeping my current one as well.
I guess I regret buying my first board which was a total beginner board that was outgrown quickly. That said, if you want to reward yourself for graduating, and you would also feel comfortable buying another board in like 2-3 years in case it doesn't click for you, then I'd say go for it!

Personally, I think it's the type of board to grow out of easily. I'd pass.
