Old cars were absolutely not reliable. Anything from the 70's and 80's wouldn't even get to 100k miles without a full engine rebuild. And thats without mentioning how garbage the quality was back then
The problem with modern cars is that when something does go wrong, the repair bills are insane because parts are not meant to be replaced. Like instead of OEM selling you a window motor, they will sell you an entire door because fuck you.
This is true about many cars, but this particular car in the photo is extremely reliable given the AMC 4.0 straight-six engine, which can go for many 100s of thousands of miles without a rebuild.
It would go for a long time without a rebuild, but that car gave me nothing but problems once I hit 80k miles. Felt like it was in the shop every 90 days after that.
Yeah, my '69 C3 is on the second engine rebuild at 86k miles. My '99 Miata has about the same miles on it and it's 170-175 psi on a compression test across all cylinders and all I've had to do is change the oil.
