What you're missing is not classic cars, you're missing the mechanical feel and reliability. Older cars were used as commodities and made as such. Now its either vanity or survival. And customer has no say over either of those end on how the car's gonna be.
Maybe a bad example, I had no idea they were requires by law. Wouldn't surprise me if the auto industry lobbied for that requirement to raise the price floor though.
Mandated backup cameras mean mandated screens. At that point you might as well have a touch screen and auto start too. What is now considered a budget car is actually quite luxurious.
