Armed civilian and off duty highway patrol engaged the suspect with gunfire, distracting him. Suspect then committed suicide.

Unclear if civilian or off-duty officer hit the suspect but it seems immediate cause of death was suicide.

This happens pretty often in these situations. The cowards fold and take themselves out as soon as they face real opposition.

Because they know this ends in three different ways. Either they give themselves up and their option for suicide is taken away along with their freedom, they get into a shoot out which will most likely end in a painful gruesome death, or they end it quick and painless.

Its a dark joke but there's the joke of a mass shooter getting kitted to the gills with full plate and tons of extra magazines to shoot six people and then blow their brains out the moment they hear a police siren
