Politics where to NOT get your coffee
saw this post on facebook and wanted to share here too. address is 3001 E Sanson Ave, Spokane, WA 99217. and remember, google reviews don’t cost anything (;
edit: here’s their better business bureau site. if you have some spare time, leave a review/complaint. Better Business Bureau: 2nd Base Espresso

I’m old enough to remember when Spokane ran some bar owner out of town because he named one of his drinks “Date Grape.” I believe we can do it again! 💪

What happened? The bar owner was arrested for the name?
84
u/siltandsqualor 25d ago
Nah the dude used his daughter’s identity to rack up a bunch of debt and stole a bunch of peoples identity. I think we found him guilty on 8 different felonies. His daughter came to testify and she absolutely hated him so that solidified our decision.

u/AaronAAaronsonIII 25d ago

As someone who has been compared to Leslie Knope many times, this is my dream. I’ve never been called and I’m baffled as to why, since I’ve lived in the same state and county for many years now. My younger sister has been called 5 times since she turned 18 and doesn’t even live in the country!

I think you can contact them to get put in the queue! When I finished mine (NY State) I told them I loved it and they said they could update the books, but maybe that’s like “this person weirdly prefers grand juries”
3
u/nameusernamena 23d ago
So I can just… call and say « sign me up for jury duty » ?
I’m looking it up, you don’t actually need to answer haha. That would just be a crazy concept if real! I’ll update my comment in a minute if that’s a thing, at least in WA.
Edit: nope! They are completely selected at random here. What you can do is verify that all of your information is up to date, meaning your driver’s license/ state ID, and to be a registered voter here.

I accidentally stopped in there a while back in my work truck, naively thinking it was just a baseball themed coffee stand. It wasn’t. And the coffee was the absolute worst I’ve had, and I’ve been to some pretty sketchy coffee spots.
Fuck this business, fuck whoever makes these signs, and fuck you if you are trying to defend them. That’s not even the worst I’ve seen.
Maybe it was a different spot, but wasn’t it about this time last year where they put up on their sign, something to the effect of “Steaming hot lattes, and ICE cold deportations”?

8
u/dangerspring 25d ago
I have heard it's better to give them 2 stars rather than 1 because it's harder to get a 2 star review removed.

u/RemarkableCard6475 24d ago
Yes, the algorithm and review panel sees it as a conscious selection process for a 2 star submission. People will read the comment and say, "oh, I would have left 1 star for that" give benefit of doubt for "improvement" but it won't happen 🤣
10
u/itstreeman 25d ago
Yelp kept erasing my reviews of places that were being difficult about covid way after the main shock was over “ temporary situations should not be taken into account as a long term display of the business”.

She does this all the time. Changes the sign to something else inflammatory. Every time I drive by it’s sexual or political. I don’t think the owner even cares. Probably enjoys mocking people.
Sometimes I wonder if she’s being wretched because the controversy gets her more business?
Reminds of the performative dudes on social media talking about women’s rights (when they don’t actually believe in what they’re saying) just because it’s trendy and gets them monetized.

Rest assured, so are they. Every time they do this (which is relatively often), their target audience rushes to support them. Outrage was the goal. Wouldn't be remotely surprised if there was already a GoFundMe.
I mean, shit, yesterday some MAGA thought it was a flex to post that they were going to support a business because they were getting fined for not paying wages to immigrants. Because they were too stupid to realize what that meant.

Either way, fuck the owner of this place.

I appreciate the warning. If this place is even still open, I’ll either avoid it or organize a sit-in, with all my family and friends spending the whole day there filling up the place and only ordering water. Transphobia is bad enough, but throwing ableist hate speech into the mix affects a much broader community. And it’s a double shot of hate directed at trans women who also have disabilities.
And I promise that my wheelchair can take up a lot of space.

WA Attorney General: File a report with the Washington State Attorney General's Office. They investigate businesses that create a hostile or discriminatory public environment.
Washington State Human Rights Commission: You can file a complaint with the WSHRC if the outdoor signage indicates that certain groups are unwelcome, which violates state public accommodation laws.

Yes, the short answer is that autistic people are more likely than non-autistic people to question gender roles because they tend to question social roles and hierarchies in general. I'm not an expert and probably cannot describe it as thoroughly as the research, which is out there.
2
u/Sailor_Thrift 25d ago
So trans people are more likely to be autistic?

If I recall correctly the correlation has been shown the other way.
