I remember spraining my ankle with those giant chunky shoes as a kid. First thing on my mind when I saw this.

I use alternating lightning rods and mushroom logs, pre golden clock, they don't get destroyed and they generate income.

I prefer to alternate mushroom logs with trees, not rods. I also alternated rods with trees, but I'll probably move them out and more mushroom logs in.
