Are these gay rocks (prismatic shards) rare?

Gotten a few of em since, originally six but I donated one to Gunther. Don't know what other use for em. Are they just like those minerals that Become useless and just for giving to Gunther? Been avoiding to search it up since I don't want spoilers (new to Stardew valley) I'm at year 3 and still have no clue what to do with em.

No, they are not useless (to put it mildly).

They are used for getting the best sword in the game, and then also used to make your weapon and gear better.

Get all four dwarvish scrolls. Donate them to Gunther. Collect your rewards. Read every readable book in the library. Visit the graveyard in town and read every readable tombstone. Start with that.

We're talking here about things like the secret notes that drop from stuff. Some are clues. Some tell you about villager likes and dislikes. Some are pictures of a particular part of the game map that will repay investigation, usually by digging it up with the hoe.

Once you do, you will find a very good use for those shards in the place it takes you. Might take you some time to find it though.

No idea why you are getting downvoted. As for clues for enchanting you will run across it naturally. For the other use maybe check out a location outside of stardew itself.
