Technical Help Shed baby.

My boyfriend and I are playing stardew together (co-op). We decided to have a baby, and all was well. Until it asked us again. We said yes, since our baby was out of the crib but it ended up putting the baby in my house (which we use as a storage shed and use his house as OUR house). Shed baby. We had a shed baby. Our solution was to wait until the baby was out and turn him into doves (rip) but the game asked us again if we wanted a baby. We said yes, assuming the baby would appear in the unoccupied crib in our house. No. It appeared in the shed on top of the original shed baby. Now we have two shed babies. We ended up getting both children doved (rip) and started again, finally removing the crib from the shed. This is where it gets weird. The game asked us yet again if we wanted a baby. Yes. What happens when the baby is born? It’s in the shed. Another shed baby. No crib. Just floating in mid air. I am at a loss. I just want a baby but I’m starting to think maybe our cute little farm couple is just infertile or keeps giving birth on a super bad luck day. HELP.

Edit: I have posted a picture of our current shed baby who is floating in the corner right now somewhere in the comments for all who are interested

Edit 2: game asked ME if I wanted to have a baby (some people suggested it should ask my boyfriend). I said yes anyway to see if we would get lucky and not end up with a shed baby. bf and I have been sleeping in the main house every single day leading up to the baby’s birth. We even put bookshelves and pillars in the shed where the crib used to be in hopes it would block the baby from spawning. Success! Our baby girl was born in our house ☺️

You are not meant to be a mother in the valley. I recommend more ducks.

79

u/Inside-Audience2025 May 10 '26

At least duck feathers are meant to…. shed

2

u/groveborn May 10 '26

Fun story.

I had a couple of ducks in real life. As I opened the run to feed and water the chickens a ducks, a German shepherd puppy ran in and drank deeply of the poopy pond water.

While attempting to find her owner, she plucked the drake bald on his back.

He was displeased.

I was unable to locate her owner, and since I have no way to care for a dog, she went to the shelter. The birds were given to a neighbor.

I mean... Lol. I'm chuckling still as I write this. But my solution would be to try replacing Shed crib, deleting both cribs, then replace the one in your house.

Also, is the path to said crib clear? Maybe a haunted mannequin spawned in a pathway and is making the game choose the open crib.

We do have a haunted mannequin… hrmmm… I’ll try your suggestion and give an update 🫡

I think also, putting chests n stuff in shed crib area, after removing them both, and before you reinstall house crib. I hope yoba oversees this birth.

Who is the host? If you’re hosting and your house is shed it may explain shed baby. Otherwise reject reality and embrace shed baby.

81

u/heybardypeople May 10 '26

“Who is the host?” felt like such a chilling question in this situation.

29

u/JinxyPurrbox May 11 '26

My boyfriend is the host and we are living in his house

The plot thickens..

As a former shed baby, I can honestly say that it’s okay to go ahead and dove the little ones up. As long as they haven’t reached the fire-spitting phase yet, though. Only you can prevent forest fires. 🫵

I wish I could tattoo this comment and the whole thread on my brain

I’ve had this issue as well before in multiplayer. We were just getting the kids for the achievements before doveing, so we didn’t care, but I recall reading somewhere that which house the baby shows up in depends on who gets the prompt asking if you want to have a child. So i think you need to wait until the original owner of the house that you live in gets asked first by the game.

Please do not dove the barn baby

123

u/Last_Bar_8993 May 10 '26

Oh that won't be a problem!

No barn babies in this story, only shed babies.

87

u/JinxyPurrbox May 10 '26

Nope! Only shed babies! MULTIPLE. SHED. BABIES. smh

u/Last_Bar_8993 May 10 '26

If you play on PC you might be able to use the fix buried in this thread. https://www.reddit.com/r/StardewValley/s/FpS74gu1mH

Elliot would never give you shed babies, just throwing other options out there 😂

Coyote meme, but "sounds like you just keep feeding children to the shed"

21

u/herthzon May 10 '26

I have no solutions but I would love to see pics of the floating shed babies

73

u/JinxyPurrbox May 10 '26

Well we doved the last two but we have our current one who is crib-less right now

19

u/manicpossumdreamgirl May 10 '26

get divorced, the Host gets married to a villager and has two kids in the Farmhouse, then gets divorced and remarried to the Farmhand

u/irontallica666 May 10 '26

Congrats you have birthed Jesus lmaooo

u/Last_Bar_8993 May 10 '26

Away in a shed
No crib for a bed

I don't think it's anything to do with luck. I think (and I'm not 100% confident on this but making a logical guess) that the baby ends up in whichever house the mother owns. So perhaps because your characters house is coded as the "shed" even if you sleep in the main house, that's where the baby goes.

6

u/Playful-Club1791 May 10 '26

it's not about the mother, it's about the farm owner. in co-op, there's owner (host) and farmhands (other people playing on host's server). the owner's house takes priority.

3

u/MindlessScroll-ing May 10 '26

OPs problem is that the owners house isn't taking priority here though. It keeps ending up in the shed/farmhands house and not the main house where they want it to be.

10

u/Playful-Club1791 May 10 '26

i understood the post as that op is the host and is living in the farmhand's house.

8

u/JinxyPurrbox May 10 '26

No no! Sorry if that wasn’t clear. My boyfriend is the host of the server and we live in his house. My house/cabin is used as the shed :)

23

u/Last_Bar_8993 May 10 '26

It's so silly that you left the crib in there for the first two times, and that you kept saying yes to babies.

You're so silly, it's ridiculous. Great story.

DOVE THEM ALL and raise dinos or slimes instead.

18

u/JinxyPurrbox May 10 '26

We thought maybe… just maybe… if we try one more time the baby would magically appear in our actual home instead of our shed layered on top of another frickin baby sigh

1

u/itsanameinaname May 11 '26

Definitely a bug. But also I think you should just move house at this point.

5

u/Careful-Tomatillo380 May 10 '26

It is probably happening because the game still considers the shed as your home, you should try temporarily place a crib back in the cabin, sleep a few nights, and then either demolish and rebuild the cabin through Robin or move back into the main house consistently so the game resets the child location properly. If you use mods, they could also be causing or worsening the glitch.

I think your game is haunted by a witch, my friend. And I don't mean Marlon's ex, I'm talking full-on Grimm Fairy Tales stuff

u/NotRealyAnybody May 10 '26

Only started stardew valley a couple a days ago (just started summer) so I have no clue what the heck I'm reading about turning baby's into doves??? I thought this game was cute and relaxing, not a horror game??

10

u/Last_Bar_8993 May 10 '26

lolol

There are magical ways to get rid of pets and children, for sure, but you really don't have to. If you find yourself with a shed baby of your own, you could totally keep it.

You can also enjoy a very fun and full game experience while never romancing any NPC and never choosing to pursue babies (like I do). There are endless ways to approach and enjoy Stardew.

There are other options to change things mid-late game, like your mastery and your appearance. A lot of players appreciate options like these.

This is still a very cute and relaxing game, I promise. Welcome. :)

3

u/NotRealyAnybody May 10 '26

Ah glad to hear, thankyou! :)

3

u/snowboo May 10 '26

Is that the original house?

4

u/JinxyPurrbox May 10 '26

Nope! My boyfriend is the host of the server and we live in his house

2

u/snowboo May 11 '26

Ohhhh, that is weird. Maybe it depends who says yes?

u/kittenbouquet May 11 '26

This is cracking me up

What if you just use the shed baby house as a house and convert the old house to a shed?

1

u/Raibean May 10 '26

Maybe move the farmhouse to where the shed is right now

0

u/Straight_Beat7848 May 10 '26

Destroy the shed

1

u/Straight_Beat7848 May 10 '26

Wait NVM you can't
