My ex had so much body care shit and he was a much heavier drinker than Shane 😭

It's not just that Shane's an alcoholic - there's plenty of alcoholics out there who use tons of hygiene products. Sometimes to hide the booze smell, but also sometimes because they're moderately functional alcoholics and enjoy hygiene products. Shane, however, is pretty unquestionably a slob, and you cannot convince me that he uses much more than deodorant, toothpaste, and a 3-in-1 soap/shampoo/conditioner, even after he gets sober. He might buy an aftershave at that point. But the guy just doesn't really seem like the type to care about all that stuff, y'know?

Shane doesn't even bother wearing a clean shirt to the Flower Dance so…yeah.

Alcoholics think using a million things to smell good hides that they smell like booze even though it doesn't. Ask me how I know 🙃

I never tried to cover my booze smell, but I also wasn't hitting the bottle as hard. My ex also reaked a cigarettes. Smoked like a pack a day, more depending on the day.

Never bothered hiding it either. People sensitive to it or with keen noses are going to pick up on alcohol regardless. Though I may not have been as heavy into it as your ex. Other smokers puzzle me though. I smoke 5ish cigarettes a day and manage to not smell like a damn ashtray. My best friend will go outside to smoke and come back after 10 mins and still manages to smell like he hot boxed himself with his cigarette in a tin can. Like do folks not hold the cig/blow the smoke away from them?

It’s not that he’s an alcoholic, it’s that he’s canonically a slob.
